Marina is an Omnivore, the best kind of both worlds.. with built-in self-defense. She tends to stray away from any kind of meat so she's treated like a herbivore. Kind of. She still sleeps in the carnivore sector but she spends most of her time with the herbivores, she's often mistaken for a herbivore because of her appearance.

Hazamada is a carnivore, the worst kind of carnivore. He's not big and scary, like lions or bears but he still gives off a sense of unease to every herbivore around him. Like a lurking presence of something sinister. He's never been caught doing anything awful, he's just.. weird. He doesn't try to be appealing to the other herbivores, he doesn't try to seem friendly. He keeps to himself, well.. he tried to.

Marina had a problem.
She sees good in everyone, willing to lend a hand, paw, to any creature in need. She always had a strong dislike for people who picked on others, and seeing Hazamada so miserable made her feel.. sad. Despite the many warnings from her friends, she proceeded to befriend the poor boy. He wasn't anything like they described him. He was actually really nice! She found it amusing that a carnivore was so soft-spoken and shy, she was always used to them exuding confidence, being bold and fierce. Something to admire. He didn't seem to be anything like that. Sure, sometimes he was a little temperamental, and fierce but nothing like the others. He was reserved, but not in a ‘calm and collected’ way, more like a recluse, a shut in. Marina found it endearing.

Hazamada couldn't have been more pleased. He actually was a mix of emotions, worried, concerned, embarrassed, just to name a few. He had a friend, a herbivore friend. Something smaller than him, something that should have been cautious of him wanted to be his friend. Willingly. He made sure to ask if all of this was a joke and she assured him many times that this was no joke. Marina wanted to be his friend. She wanted to know him, spend time with him. He couldn't help but flush at how sweet and kind she was, though he assumed most, if not all herbivores were that nice. It made sense to him. They didn't kill. They didn't maim or hurt like he did. Like carnivores did. Like carnivores are supposed to. He wasn't used to being so close with someone like Marina, he almost felt like he had to hide his true nature to keep her from leaving. If she knew how he was, how ravenous he was, she'd flee. Like prey are supposed to.

He couldn't help it.

It's hard wired into his flesh, his bones, his very soul. He is a carnivore. He needs meat. He needs blood. He needs it. Herbivores should be scared, they should fear him, she should fear him. Every time he's alone with her, he feels it. That familiar itch, a burning, hypnotizing ache that calls to him. Every time he's alone with her is a perfectly planned out moment to attack, in his mind. But he can't, He won't and he knows she can feel it too. He sees the way her fur stiffens and sticks up the second she realizes they're alone. The way her bushy, fuzzy tail flicks around anxiously, her body language betraying her pretty smile and kind words. He kind of likes it.
He could always blame it on somebody else, someone more aggressive or he could lie, he could come up with a convincing lie. Marina was friends with a bunch of Carnivores too, so he wouldn't be the only suspect. One quick bite. That's all it'll take. Just one. He just wanted to know what eating meat was like..

He had cornered her.

Finally alone and oh so hungry, his senses and instincts overwhelmed him. He wanted to know. He wanted blood on his hands, to taste, to bite. He wasn't expecting Marina to bite him.

He wasn't exactly being subtle. His intent was clear as day and if anyone else was around it would be rather shameful. Him, openly stalking her as if she was prey. Technically she was, but she wasn't that small compared to him. It was foolishly risky for him to even attempt something like that, yet here they were. Her back was turned to him, a mistake, yes, she knows but she wanted to make him feel less.. beast-like. She wanted him to trust her, it was also a sign of resistance. She wasn't afraid of him, she needed him to know that. He wasn't a threat to her. Even now, with him shifting dangerously close, she wasn't really frightened. A little scared? Yes, but not terrified. Only because she knows he's planning to attack her, hell maybe even eat her.

Her head instinctively perked up, a warning swish from her tail followed. He must've mistaken the warning for fear, since it only seemed to entice further. His steps became more confident, even when she turned her whole body to face him, glaring him down as he stalked her. It pissed her off. Days, weeks she spent hanging out with him, making time for him, caring for him, loving him. He turns on her. She could only wonder how long he'd been waiting, how long he'd been fantasizing about this exact moment. How long he had seen her as prey. It enraged her, so she bit him.

Before he could advance further, she pounced. Literally. Latching her teeth onto his face, sharp canines and incisors sunk deep in the furried flesh of his snout. He yelped, a mix of a high pitch howl and a squeal, wasting no time to shove Marina away from him. Adrenaline and shock rushing through his blood, distracting him from the pain of the bite he had endured. In his panic, he fumbled onto the ground, a hand delicately grazing the bite mark.
He could feel the warm, wet liquid against his fur, red staining his finger tips. Hazamada glanced up, his eyes tracing Marina's blood stained muzzle. Her flattened ears, her tail bristled and poofy, whipping around chaotically. The soft features he'd grown accustomed to were now contoured into a snarl, a snarl aimed at him. A face only a predator could make.

A face that read “I want to rip you apart.”

And she did, she wanted to tear him apart. To dive into him and leave nothing but a mess of fur and meat for their peers and instructors to find. The first case of a carnivore being hunted like a herbivore but no. She wouldn't do that, no matter how angry she was or how nice it was to taste blood, she would not attack him anymore than she already did. An act of mercy. And after a concerning amount of silence and stares, Hazamada finally spoke up.

"I, I thought you were a.."

He didn't know if he should finish that sentence but he did anyway.

"A herbivore."

He should have stayed silent, maybe Marina wouldn't have chucked that heavy ass book at his already aching head. Without another word, she left.

A common misconception.

Skunks are omnivores.
