Life in a student flat starts rough but gets colourful. The carpet smelled like beer, but we gave it soul with furniture. Flat-pack breaks too quick, so we bartered with old dealers. We carried a wingback through Dalston. It felt like Shoreditch, but that’s what made it ours. Retro armchairs have weight, funky chair and students get that instinctively. I’ve watched half my flat pass out across two chairs, and those seats carried us.

East London is built on mix and living room chairs and sofas mess, quirky sofas and designers take inspiration from it. My flatmate dragged me into Smithers, and everything felt alive, not plastic. we had to haggle, but it’s become the throne of the house. Every student flat tells the same story. it’s half the fun. Furniture with scars feels built for students. Modern stuff? Forget it, but retro lasts. Every scratch adds more story.

Once the parties are done, the stress disappears, but the mismatched set still makes you laugh. When you start student life, skip the flat-pack rubbish. Choose a funky accent chair, and let it shout Shoreditch every time you sit.
