4 unusual types of yoga you never knew existed

Hot yoga is already commonplace, it's time to get acquainted with cannabis yoga, goat yoga and others. There are many yoga classes that stimulate you both physically and mentally. Unusual yoga practices take you to another level - and it's more than just getting out of your comfort zone. These types of yoga may surprise you, but even if you don't have the courage to try them, you won't regret taking the time to read about them.

  1. Nude Yoga (Noga)

Naked yoga or "Noga" - can seem very uncomfortable, especially if you are a little shy about your body. But you can't deny that there is something completely liberating about stripping naked and letting yourself go for an hour. The physical feeling of freedom - that's what naked yoga is all about.

Leg waxing has gained popularity over the past decade, and the practice can be found in many major cities, including New York and Los Angeles.

  1. Kozyacha Yoga

Let's thank Laina Morse of Albany, Oregon, for blessing us with the unconventional genius that is Goat Yoga (there are now over 200 classes offered across the country). As you might have guessed, these classes are very similar to traditional yoga classes, with one major exception: there are live goats in the class. In the original studio (or barn), your classes will be accompanied by goats raised by Morse herself, who will roam freely as you do poses. They may climb on your back, snuggle up to you on the mat, or make sounds in your ear. And while Morse admits that the concept may sound silly, she sincerely believes that it helps people with medical conditions. "People who are suffering from anxiety or depression come in. Thanks to Goat Yoga, they are cured of their illnesses," she said in an article published by CNN in January 2017. These classes have become so popular that people are lining up to get in on goat yoga!

  1. Yoga Rave

These parties offer a drug- and alcohol-free atmosphere for people who want to have a good night out. The initiative originated from the Art of Living Foundation, a non-profit, volunteer-run NGO whose goal is to promote body stimulation through music, yoga, and meditation. But let's get to the question of how Yoga Rave works?

The party starts with a quick yoga class and guided meditation to warm up the body. After that, participants are invited to dance to the music and maybe try some soft drinks and delicious vegetarian dishes offered at the bar. At the end of the night, another guided meditation is held to calm the body. For four hours, you will be exercising and dancing.

You can find Yoga Rave in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, or Philadelphia.

  1. Yoga with Cannabis (Ganja Yoga)

People who use marijuana for non-medical purposes typically do so to relax, relieve stress, and focus—a similar list of reasons some people practice yoga. So for some, the combination is obvious.

Dee Dussault, a yoga instructor in San Francisco, told CBS News in February 2018 that the combination of weed and yoga helps “relax your muscles and lower your inhibitions so you’re more likely to try different poses.” Classes open with a sort of “cocktail hour” of various herbal products that participants can try. After the opening, there’s an hour of yoga with short breaks. Similar classes are offered in several states, including Colorado, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C.
