Gatekeeper Ginny lore

Gatekeeper Ginny

Ginny is a Gatekeeper Devil, living and working in the infernal city of Dis, Hell. She appears as a young woman in her mid twenties, standing 5 feet and 2 inches tall, with deep crimson colored skin and straight, short black hair. Her flat bangs are split by a pair of small, pointed red horns that protrude from her forehead, and she is trailed by a tail of moderate length which ends in a spade shape. Her eyes glow a solid orange, without distinction between pupils and iris. She is roughly 3000 years old.

Ginny is diligent, loyal, hard working, and extremely well organized. She has a strong sense of humor, with a preference for pranks and dry sarcasm, but she is also respectful and sympathetic, especially with her clients. But who are her clients? What is a Gatekeeper?

Gatekeepers Above and Below

Gatekeeper Devils (and Gatekeeper Angels) serve a complicated role. In short, their job is to ensure that those souls who are destined to arrive in their respective afterlives (Heaven, and Hell) do so promptly, safely, and with the appropriate paperwork filed. In practice, they serve as psychopomps, immigration officials, rescue workers, record keepers, dispensers of comfort, afterlife guides, and more.

Life in Hell

From the capital city of Pandaemonium to the humble streets of Dis, and all across Hell, a vast and cyclopean Hellish Bureaucracy operates night and day, catering to the needs of the formerly living residents, as well as the Devils and other "natives". Headed by an six member council (elected every 5 years) who rule from the Black Palace in Pandaemonium. Though many living people on Earth view the afterlife known as Hell as a place of torment and punishment, the truth is much more complex. When a person dies on Earth, their soul is drawn by mysterious spiritual forces toward an afterlife. It's understood that those drawn to Hell tend toward dark passions and pursuits which may have been taboo in life, but not necessarily evil. In Hell, these souls find that there is a place for every interest or guilty pleasure, and a rigorously structured and stern life in the State, should they desire it (and a great many who find there way there do.) However, life in Hell goes on in many similar ways to the life of the living; with homes and businesses, organizations both humble and grand, politics and social change. Devils serve many roles: Policing, to construction, to entertainment and beyond. Almost all Devils live and work out of Hell, but many are taken to the world of the living by their work as well.
