Hello, i am Ryan. I am diagnosed with Anti-social personality disorder. I am using this rentry to answer common questions with my personal experience.
do you experience the feeling of love (familial, romantic, platonic, etc)?
Yes. The typical view of 'love' that you may experience might not be the same as mine, but i can say for certain i love my family, friends and bf more than anything in this world.
do you experience empathy?
Once again it may not be in the way that is typical for people. I feel very severe empathy over those i am close with, however I also struggle seperating the feeling of empathy and me being protective. I can understand logically why someone would feel a sort of way, but i rarely connect on an emotional level. I find it much easier to feel empathy for animals rather than human beings. (shoutout to my cat, I love him like my own son.)
do you experience emotions?
Almost every sociopath i have met does experience emotions to an extent. For me, I believe i experience my emotions lesser than others, however i do feel irritation intensely despite the fact it's not easy to get me angry.
do you fake your emotions to manipulate others?
Yes and no. I do not actively attempt to manipulate others, however I commonly fake my emotions as it's easier to fit into the crowd when I do. Sometimes I think I have to feel a sort of way about something, and force myself to do so.
do you have hobbies / enjoy doing things?
Very much so. I love to write and character design, although i'm very prone to bordedom and do put down and pick things up commonly.
do you obsess over people?
quite commonly, yes. I find myself bored incredibly often, obsessing over people is a way in which i combat my boredom. My hyperfocus always comes and goes and just because i am hyperfocusing on one person that does not mean i care for anyone else close to me any less, just thay my brain finds that one person the most interesting to me at the moment. I do not only obsess over people, I commonly obsess over media, hobbys and more just as often as I do other human beings.
are you diagnosed with anything else?
I am diagnosed with Borderline personality disorder and Autism.
Please stop generalising those with ASPD. It is a spectrum. We are not all evil, we are not all murderers or abusers. Some of us were born this way while others were not. But we are still people, and we deserve to be treated as such. Being wary of those who are antisocial is warranted just as much as you'd be wary of anyone else who has a personality disorder, we are not so different from those with bpd, hpd, npd, etc. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
