Privacy Policy for Eye Time
Effective Date: May 8, 2026
Overview
Eye Time ("the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the permissions the Extension requires to function properly.
By installing and using the Extension, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Data Collection and Usage
We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data.
The Extension operates entirely locally on your device. We do not track your browsing history, we do not log your keystrokes, and we do not communicate with any external servers or third-party analytics services.
All of your settings (such as timer frequency, strict mode preferences, and notification toggles) are saved exclusively on your local machine using your browser's secure local storage (localStorage).
2. Required Permissions and Justification
To provide its core functionality, the Extension requests the following permissions from your browser:
- Read and change all your data on all websites (
<all_urls>/*://*/*):
The Extension uses the "20-20-20 rule" to remind you to rest your eyes. To enforce this break, the Extension requires the ability to inject a dark visual overlay and a breathing animation directly onto the webpage you are currently viewing. We do not read your page content or monitor the websites you visit. This permission is used strictly to apply the CSS overlay (chrome.scripting.insertCSS) when your break timer triggers. - Storage: Used exclusively to save your timer preferences locally on your device.
- Alarms: Used to run the countdown timer in the background without draining your battery or consuming excessive memory.
- Notifications: Used to optionally alert you via a desktop notification when it is time to take a break or resume working.
- Offscreen: Used to reliably play the audio chime in the background when your timer finishes.
3. Third-Party Services
The Extension does not use any third-party services, APIs, or trackers.
4. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or Chrome Web Store requirements. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
5. Contact Us
