[06:49] Maria Malibu exclaims, "!!!"
[06:49] Maria Malibu bumps into Fauste.
(Maria Malibu)
[06:49] Maria Malibu says, "..."
[06:49] Fauste says, "Ow-"
[06:50] Maria Malibu exclaims, "!!!"
[06:50] Maria Malibu shakes her head and sways her hands! She was sorry!
(Maria Malibu)
[06:50] Fauste asks, "Are you alright?"
[06:50] Maria Malibu exclaims, "...! ...!"
[06:51] Fauste says, "Hmm..."
[06:51] Maria Malibu panics! She didn't know what to do in front of someone so famous! She writes frantically in her notebook, practically forcing the pages into the woman's face. 'Do you know a Mnemosyne Montelione?' it asks.
(Maria Malibu)
[06:51] Maria Malibu writes frantically again, 'I am sorry!
(Maria Malibu)
[06:52] Fauste says, "Ah- I do. There's no need to apologize."
[06:52] Maria Malibu gestures to her throat, perhaps remarking her inability to speak properly.
(Maria Malibu)
[06:52] Maria Malibu exclaims, "!!!"
[06:52] Maria Malibu she gasps, tilting her head and looking at the woman in an awestruck nature.
(Maria Malibu)
[06:52] Fauste says, "I can read thoughts and sign language, if you know either. I learned in my orphanage."
[06:52] Maria Malibu exclaims, "!!!!"
[06:52] Maria Malibu sighs a breath of relief, she begins to speak in sign language.
(Maria Malibu)
[06:52] Fauste says, "This is a terrible sentence, because you likely know how to think, and it implies I learned telepathy in an orphanage."
[06:56] Alain Ueda says, "Lava would be better."
[06:57] Thank goodness, did this woman know proper sign language.
Maria begins to sign, gesturing to herself and introducing herself to Fauste. 'Hello, my name is Maria.' she tells her. Smiling softly, and with an aura of awe.
Perhaps she was starstruck.
I am looking for her.' she gestures, no doubt remarking the woman that was known as Mnemosyne. The child seemed nervous, as if every gesture and expression put her on the verge on anxiety. Was she simply starstruck? Unable to express her admiration.
'I know who you are. I've read the stories! she gestures, with a smile. The poor girl was breathing heavily. The remarkable Fauste, speaking to her? She had her deeds and the stories surrounding her. The battles she would partake, the knowledge and methods she used...
"!!!"
She calms herself, taking a deep breath. Fauste would both discover her thoughts and the gestures she spoke, making it clear the girl's attentions.
'I came here because Mnemosyne lives here. I was told to look for her to learn Wayfinding. I hope...i'm not a bother.' her thoughts and gestures both express, a smile clear on her features.
'I am...
I am a big fan by the way.' she points to Fauste, and then back to herself!
(Maria Malibu)
[06:57] * You have been awarded 2 Levels! * [07:03] 'Hello. I am Fauste.' The equivalent signed back, quite quickly. It would be the one thing she could never forget how to sign.
Fauste stood there with the selfsame smile she always held, it didn't shift- whether bumped into or spoken to like this. She observes the signing with a bit of a tilt of the head, and it takes her a moment to respond.
It seems that she's reminding herself quite a bit.
'Sorry... it has been long.'
A pause given, her mind searching for the remainder of the words, and how to properly sign them.
'I used to do this quite often, in a past life.'
She ends it there- the young girl could hear, clearly, so Fauste did not need to slow things down. She would instead opt to speak.
"I am surprised. It is rare that I find someone that knows 'of' me with such a positive opinion."
The woman floats forward a bit on her broom, giving the young one two little pats on the head.
"Syne does live here, we could check inside. I'm not sure how free she is at the moment, but my null hypothesis does contain a tome of wayfinding... if you would like to study, and if she is not available.
It is rare that I say this, but you've perhaps made my day, little one."
(Fauste)
[07:12] "!!!"
The smile and awe was clear on the little one's face. She was completely starstruck, unable to hide her admiration for Fauste. She had heard the stories of her endeavors. In fact, Fauste was one of the few modern heroes she knew about, the many stories she read in her books speaking of heroes from ancient past.
'It's okay!' Maria signs back. Just interacting with this woman, having her sign and speak to her on her level, was more than enough to make her day.
She giggles at Fauste's attempt to sign. Despite being mute, it was clear she knew how to understand others from other methods. Whether it be from hearing or signing. The girl did have a positive opinion of Fauste. She saw her as a hero. A popular figure who has been around longer than she was born.
A storyteller.
Something she'd hope to be someday.
"!!!" She touches her chest. A pat on the head is given, instilling comfort into the young Wayfinder.
"!!!"
She clasps her hands, nodding with wide eyes at the idea of exploring the woman's tomes. It would be a dream come true, to even just explore the mechanics and ideals instilled into such a text.
She follows, of course. Allowing Fauste to lead the way.
(Maria Malibu)
[07:16] Fauste asks, "Hmm... it would seem Syne is fast asleep. Would you like to study with me instead?"
[07:17] Maria Malibu exclaims, "!!!"
[07:17] Maria gasps! She'd clutch her chest, as if the very idea was a dream come true...
She nods excitedly, smiling.
(Maria Malibu)
[07:18] Fauste says, "Please do not go into cardiac arrest, it would upset me."
[07:18] Maria Malibu exclaims, "!!!"
[07:18] Maria Malibu was on the verge of cardiac arrest.
(Maria Malibu)
[07:18] Maria Malibu somehow, she is able to stay alive...
(Maria Malibu)
[07:18] Maria Malibu exclaims, "!"
[07:18] Fauste says, "Take any seat you like."
[07:18] Maria Malibu widens her eyes, wowed by the room.
(Maria Malibu)
[07:19] {Item} You picked up The Null Hypothesis. Dropped by Fauste..
[07:19] {Item} You drop The Null Hypothesis.
[07:25] Fauste's tome- that which is normally kept floating at eye level with the witch, is waved off in the direction of Maria.
It immediately obeys instruction, some wordless- as it flips open to a desired page, before gently landing itself onto the table for Maria to read as she wished.
'Wayfinding, by Dyaus Privthi'.
One of many wayfinding tomes written by the djinn before their leaving Meranthe. A table of contents first and foremost presented itself, yet the fact that it was so deep into the tome implied that there was so much more to the rest of the book.
Ten chapters were highlighted, Maria could skim as she liked.
Spatial magic, Runeweaving, Arithmancy, Magic circles to the spirit world, ones for territory, travel, interpolation and conversion- before finally settling upon the circle that produces a portal... and some additional glyphs to support the process.
"You are free to read through and skim as you like, dear.
If you have any questions- feel free to ask. My knowledge of wayfinding is unfortunately yet still only theoretical, but it is something I've studied quite a bit."
(Fauste)
[07:43] As Maria enters the room, does her eyes widen. A cavalcade of knowledge expressed, directly into her hues. The realization arrives that she was being taught by another master Wayfinder. Someone who can guide her and teach her how to fix her mistakes. Allow her to stream her passion, and discover the intricacies of the Lifestream...
The woman that was Fauste was known for many things to Maria. Her mother had spoken about her in admiration, such was the same admiration that came to her. Being taught by a master, the intricacies and delicacies of wayfinding.
What was Wayfinding to the girl? A family heirloom? Or a discovery of something more?
As Maria entered the room, did she find her heart beat. It's pulse skyrocketing, with a dedication to the art. There was a mystery she must discover. With Wayfinding being the origin to her own purpose and redemption. She felt the beat of her heart, the mysteries of her origin unraveling as she understood more about this art.
Fauste would know of the risks. Of the purpose that came to becoming a Wayfinder. Maria was contemplative, Fauste being able to see the emotions expressed upon her brow. A gentle flow, as a tome lands upon the lap of her desk. It flips open to a desired page, canary hues caressing it's pages.
She reads it's title, alongside the words expressed. A table of contents express themselves toward her, leaving a widened hue. A deep knowledge of the art of Wayfinding, and the manipulation of reality.
She skims, reading brief notes and passages. Some were familiar to her based on her studies, others were not. For even she did not know everything. As smart and dutiful as she was.
Spatial magic, runeweaving, Arithmancy. All concepts she knew well. In practice, would she find them difficult. Unable to weave without the assistance of an apparatus such as the pistol at her hip.
[Travel]
[Interpolation]
[Conversion]
All glyphs she knew. Forged into her pistol, to allow her the slightest entrance into the Lifestream. To skim the very fabric of reality, open portals beyond her embrace.
She reads. Much of the knowledge presented is known, yet did it seem her ability with runeweaving was lacking. The complex equations and swift delivery being a hassle for the girl to discover. She approaches Fauste after reading, expressing her pistol to her. A typical mana revolver at first glance, yet inscribed with delicate runes that allowed a novice Wayfinder to teleport objects at close distances.
She signs:
'Can you help me with the calculations?' she asks. Pointing to a nearby stool. Insecure of her own abilities to write the rune necessary to teleport it a few feet away. Yet did it seem that this was her experiment. To teleport this stool outside the room, and further her knowledge on this delicate artform.
(Maria Malibu)
[07:52] Fauste simply sits at the table's edge as Maria studies. She can't leave one unattended with the Null Hypothesis, after all. The knowledge stored within isn't entirely meant to be shared on a whim.
Still, she bides her time, occasionally peering at the young wayfinder to examine the intensity at which she pursues her studies.
The pistol shown is examined quite thoroughly, Fauste even stares right down the barrel despite it being ill advised.
"Fascinating."
She remarks, she doesn't normally engage with this type of weaponry after all. Swords and staves were more common, and to her- a tome would always be her choice.
A pistol on its own was outside her usual realm of expertise, but what made it properly captivating were the runes inscribed and the desired intent for the weapon.
To be able to open portals with it, to utilize wayfinding in its use- such was ambitious enough.
"Not bad, already. You've got the beginnings of teleportation here-
I can just make a few adjustments."
The witch takes the second half of the Null Hypothesis, her quill... and begins writing. Various runes, some of which she'll have seen within the book, are scribed onto the barrel alongside that which Maria has placed herself.
"There...
I believe with this slight alteration, you'll have something that is at least better at firing the way you intend it to.
I can't guarantee it will immediately teleport everything with one hundred percent accuracy, but it should be safe... and it should be good for learning.
What do you think? Feel free to try it out."
(Fauste)
[08:12] Maria Malibu says, ">"
[08:15] Math and Arithmatic was not the girl's strong suit. Yet...precision? Accuracy?
Perhaps the Lifestream would resonate with her ability to be a crack shot. Leylines forged with a mere pull of the trigger, delicate and precise, yet capable of ripping reality in two.
As Maria read the Null Hypothesis, did her mind caress a plethora of theories. She felt her fingertips pulse at the mere reading of arcana knowledge. Forbidden to most, yet available to her and her alone.
A quaint and forgotten volume of lore. She skims it's pages, the very pages of the tome resonating in her heart. For what reason did she find her heart bellow and echo? Well, it was simple.
She had her own search for answers.
Her own desire of knowledge.
Her desire to discover what she was. Why she was born into this world.
She shouldn't be here, that thought bellowing deeply into her heart. Even so young, did she want to discover her purpose. Her reason for being born into this world, against all odds.
Her own search for answers.
As she reads the Null Hypothesis, her breathes waver. A connection to Unreality forged. A brief glimpse into the Lifestream, a taste of it's power. The realities beyond, echoing into her psyche. All was made, upon just brief glimpsed onto these pages.
She focuses onto the words of Alacritas. Her breathes were heavy, as if reading forbidden knowledge amongst these pages. Too much for a teenager. Yet just enough for an aspiring Wayfinder.
She finds her knowledge of metaphysical summoning start to grow. As if the tome was speaking to her, offering forbidden knowledge. She reads rapidly, her breathes escaping her lips at each and every word.
Forbidden knowledge, yet to her?
Another step into the puddle.
She reads, curious to the tome's embrace. A gentle flick of her gaze given to Fauste. She was fearful of the knowledge she read, as many hours or minutes it took for her to understand. She continues to study the tome, wondering if there was a purpose to it all.
Fascinating indeed...
She pauses, closing the tome. The pistol is shown to her, the girl's own method of Wayfinding. Yet with the knowledge given in such a short term, would she able to amplify her abilities.
A simple trigger pull, to break reality in two...
The delicate runes inscribed upon it's ebony and ivory reflection. A make of the woman's own studies and methods. A simple trigger pull, combined with the knowledge of the Null Hypothesis.
Maria wanted more.
She wanted desperately to understand.
For lurking deep within those pages, was the origin of her existence.
She nods, allowing Fauste to make just a few adjustments to the revolver she carried so tenderly at her hip. She hands it over, a elegant display of ebony and ivory. Th witch begins to escribe, complex runes that would surpass the basic ones Maria had written herself. Across the barrel, are these runes enscribed, handed back to the apprentice wayfinder.
It felt good in her hands. Especially so, that their were runes that were not her own.
She aims. Clicking the hammer back at the stool afront her gaze. Canary hues flick, pointing it firmly at the chair in front of her.
All she wanted was to succeed. To pull the trigger, to succeed her brother's and sisters when it came to Wayfinding.
To become a master like her heroes.
"..."
BANG!!!
And with the brief knowledge of the Null Hypothesis fresh in her psyche, does she pull the trigger. A single peer into the Lifestream, an attempt to bear the will of leylines surrounding her. For the first time in forever, does she feel them
It was all slow motion, as she pulled that trigger.
Would she find her answer?
Or fail?
(roll 6)
"!!!"
It was clear, the girl had a natural ability to the metaphysical. She shoots the stool, perfectly aligning herself with the glyph, and teleporting it mere several feet away into the room next to this one.
A perfect demonstration.
She pauses, a flash of light sending the stool directly to the other room. She gazes at her mentor, unable to believe what she had accomplished in such a short time.
Maria was a natural to this...
A single shot sending the stool directly where she wanted...
(Maria Malibu)
[08:42] Fauste was surprised to the extent the young pupil opted to consume the contents of the tome. As Maria's fascination wandered, a hesitant Fauste allowed her to examine- seeing when and where her curiosity would cease.
"You remind me of myself, you know."
The extent of reading she opted to do, in matters beyond just that of wayfinding... it seemed that the greater body of Fauste's work also appealed to the little Maria.
"I am glad to see you taking learning so seriously. You will do well."
With her pistol returned- Fauste awaits and observes the pull of the trigger, taking note of the mental preparation and the techniques of wayfinding Maria opts to incorporate in order to facilitate her shot.
"Don't worry. If you break the stool, I'll apologize to Syne."
A bit of preparation in case the shot failed, but it seems it wasn't necessary.
Maria had managed to perfectly teleport the stool as she wished in that one shot.
"!!!"
Fauste responded in turn, though less prononunced as Maria often does.
"You've done it. An excellent job. Continue to practice like this, and you'll surpass my theoretical understanding and breach your way into the practical with ease.
I feel a bit of pride. You are a quick learner."
(Fauste)
[08:49] Maria would smile and blush at the comments given to her. She awakens her gaze idly, breaking eye contact with her mentor. The mere mention that she reminded Fauste of her younger self brimming her with delight.
Could she ever live up to someone such as herself?
Or was she destined to fade?
She'd hope her studies would propel her to greater heights. For while her siblings plagued themselves with political relations, did the girl hide in the shadows, buried in her studies. She wanted to say how much her mother looked up to Fauste. For such stories were what inspired her passion in the first place.
"!!!"
And yet did that stool perfectly teleport into the other room. Maria was ecstatic, her wide eyes present as she clutched her chest. She did it! Even if it was such a small, tender step into a world so large and complex.
It was a step.
And that was all she needed.
She looks at her mentor with a proud, innocent smile. She was surprised, yet perfectly content with her experiment. A quick learner she was, her heart filling with pride and tenderness.
Oh, what was that, however?
"!!!"
The watch at her wrists beeps. She had to go, lest the pirates that searched for her family would find her frolicking near the shores. She gives a distinct gaze to Fauste. An appreciative one, yet excited and passionate all the same.
'Th-thank you!' she gestures with her palms. There was a brief pause, as if unable to decipher what to say. The girl appreciative of the lesson.
'I hope...to see you again someday! she gestures. Her mind and thoughts clear to the telepath. As was her gestures.
A small step into a large world.
She'd hope that someday she'd discover more.
(Maria Malibu)
[08:50] Fauste says, "It was very nice to meet you today, Maria."
[08:51] Fauste says, "Consider yourself a student of mine, feel free to write."
[08:51] Fauste pats her head twice, once more.
(Fauste)
[08:51] Maria Malibu exclaims, "!!!"
[08:51] Maria Malibu nods! Smiling!
(Maria Malibu)
[08:51] Maria Malibu waves goodbye, clutching her notebook to her chest before departing.
(Maria Malibu)
[08:52] Fauste says, "Travel safely."
