What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?

Unlike older keys, modern car keys are equipped with specific chips in them that are unique to each vehicle. This helps prevent thieves from taking the key and then starting the car.

The keys are available at a dealership or cloned in a locksmith's shop. The manufacturer's process varies in that it involves turning the ignition key to the "on" position, without starting the car and then removing it within the specified time.

As its name suggests, transponders transmit an encoded signal with an eight-digit number code whenever it is being questioned by air traffic control. This signal is called an SQUAWK code and is the basis for aircraft identification on radar screens. It can also be used to transmit specific messages to the air traffic control system in the event of an emergency or to notify controllers of changing weather conditions.
