Backstory

Lehr was born on Skypie to normal parents that were not expecting the chaos he would later bring. Since an early age he observed the world around him and asked himself many questions that the others didn't, and many that clearly they couldn't answer. He was ridiculed by other kids for his main obsession at the time, discovering the reason why he couldn't fly despite having wings, the adults were patient with him for a time, thinking it a phase, but as the situation didn't improve they started treating him in increasingly cold ways.

His curiosity soon shifted to determnination, his goal going from figuring out why he couldn't fly to being able to fly by himself. No matter how badly the other kids treated him or how much the adults pretended he wasn't there he still persevered. That is until his father, who Lehr considered his biggest supporter simply because he still smiled at him in the morning, simply snapped. The years pretending to be fine took their toll so in a fit of desperation he threw Lehr off the side of the island, with the only parting words being "If you really want to fly then just do it".

The desperate man didn't mean to kill his own child, just scare him a little, but the young boy unexpectedly sunk into the clouds and to the world below. Lehr didn't get to see the aftermath of the incident, all he was left with was the sense of betrayal and a growing hatred for his own people. He woke up on a ship, a metchant vessel picked him up on the way, his wings where torn off and his body was in bad shape too, but he was alive. From that moment he decided to focus on medicine and biology, now he had to reach his goal from scratch, he didn't even have a base to work with anymore since he lost his wings.

Research isn't easy for a child, especially an orphan in an unfamiliar world, so he had to adapt first. For the sake of his goal he resorted to stealing to survive, it was more efficient that way, research alone wouldn't save him so he had to find other ways to live first. He started small, healing the less fortunate with the knowledge he gathered, improving as he went and learning about the different races of the world, when things started getting too troublesome or he had nothing more to learn he hid on a ship or found other ways to get to another island. He avoided fights as much as he could, despite being somewhat stronger than the average person he was still a kid, and the world is full of monsters. Not all fights could be avoided, but there was something to learn from being beaten up too, and he made sure to take revenge in more subtle ways later. After enough time passed he managed to set up a vaguely legitimate buisness, opening up the possibility for more extensive research and proper resources.

During this period his focus shifted from biology to genetics, attempting to improve rather than restore, an endeavour that while rudimentary managed to catsh the eye of the world govenment. Accepting the offer for the sake of efficiency, and less afraid of being treated like a test subject since he wasn't a kid anymore Lehr was put in charge of researching a variety of projects. The world goverment provided him with some spare time, even if not much, and ample supply of materials, both intellectual and not. Combined with finally interacting with like minded individuals for the first time in his life he was surprisingly confortable there, despite the subjects of the experiments forced on him. However he also came to a shoking realization when given the proper resources, flying isn't that difficult at all.

This marked the start of a period of apathy and complacency in Lehr, going through the motions on autopilot, researching what the higher ups asked for half heartedly without question, constantly asking himself if his goals were even worth all the pain and suffering. It was thanks to some of his colleagues that he managed to come out of it, if his current goal was underwhelming then he just had to find a better one. So started his endless research into perfecting life, something considered unreachable by his colleagues, that's exactly what he needed. He became much more active in all the projects that got to the lab, using his free time to augment himself to be more efficient, overtaking some of his peers in several projects and finally accomplishing his old goal of flight just to not leave it unfinished.

Unfortunately success begets jealousy, and jealousy brings hostility. Some of the senior researchers were not happy to be outclassed by a young man out of nowhere. Lehr started having premonitions about the ire of his colleagues, something he didn't want to believe in but decided to prepare for regardless, setting aside materials for a hidden side project. During an experiment Lehr was suddenly branded a traitor, some fake evidence was planted in his room and investigated while he wasn't there. With a heavy heart the doctor had no choice but to put his emergency plan in motion, he resisted arrest and managed to escape by eating an artificial devil fruit the lab had already branded a failure and that he kept working on in secret. He stole what he could carry on his way out, which was a surprising amount considering what he had but had to leave behind the heavy machinery.

He faked his death thanks to the newfound fruit powers, but he knew that with so many geniuses around it wouldn't take long for someone to figure out he was alive so he decided to start focusing on better ways to defend himself. There were very few casuaties in the escape, even if some people betrayed him there not everyone was guilty, and that place was still where he has been the happiest in his life so far, he only regrets that those traitors were smart enough to not show up in person.

After a period of aimless wondering that reminded him of his childhood, practicing as a wondering doctor while training to make use of his powers in combat, Lehr ended up being a member of the Slumber Pirates. The captain's disposition and goals resonated with him so he decided to join the crew, hoping hystory would stop repeating itself and that he finally found a place to belong. He's done running away now, and without the World Government dictating what he should work on he can find something worth researching.

Personality

Upbeat and positive most of the time, some would consider his smile disturbing, especially because of the situations he's able to smile in, but he never cared much. Tackles life with sarcasm and a good dose of cynism, but is more idealistic than he lets on, he may complain and reprimand others for getting hurt while trying to recklessly save some civilians about to become collateral damage but would be the first to do the same in that situation. Loves explaining his discoveries to others and can easily start rambling, he pretends to be upset out of pride when people don't understand his complex ideas but doesn't mind coming up with easier to understand versions too much, he sees it as a challenge. His eyes literally sparkle when he sees something worth researching and tends to drop everything to collect data and samples, it doesn't take much most of the time as he became very good at it but he rarely remembers to ask for permission from anyone involved. He sees people as walking test subjects and sources of research, but also does see them as people, being able to take apart and then put back most living things skewed his view of what is appropiate behaviour or what people consider dangerous. "I would like to see your insides." is not a threat, it can be anything between genuine curiosity and concern for a potential patient.

Finds the reactions of people that look at him handling dangerous chemicals fun, since most wouldn't know he's not in danger from any of them, so he sometimes pranks people with that.

Gets unusually serious when certain topics are breached, like loyalty or certain talks about family, his whole behaviour changes, his anger is very cold compared to his normal self. Regrets some of the projects he had to work on for the World Government, he hasn't made it his goal to track them down but if he happens across some of them causing problems he would feel somewhat responsible for it, and at the same time he doesn't know if he has the right to intervene, it feels somehwat hypocritical of him.

Has yet to call his captain by his title, unconciously avoids it for fear of being betrayed again.

Reinforced Prtable Storage Ball

A memento of one his peers back at the WG lab. A portable storage device that makes use of some stabilized Devil Fruit ability to store a large amount of materials. The storage limit isn't quite clear, the maker defined it as "A whole pharmacy and a half", a bigger limitation is the size of objects it can store, nothing bigger than a medium dining table can fit in. Lehr reinforced it with glass and other materials, making it effective as a bludgeon and reducing the chances of it breaking, but wasn't able to modify other functions because he lacks the source of the storage ability.

The scientist that made it was one of the people that didn't betray him, so looking at it reminds him that the WG isn't all rotten.

Gaffer Gaffer Fruit

Artificial Devil Fruit that turns the user into a Glass Human. As a Special Paramecia it allows for the production, manipulation, and control of a specific substance, its special status also means the user can turn themselves into that material in a similar way to a Logia. The glass produced by the user can exist it both a solid state and a malleable liquid state, rapidly switching betwen the two at will. The color of the glass can be controlled and be made to glow but doesn't emit heat.

Initially considered a failure, Lehr kept working on it in secret and managed to stabilize it, hiding it for his escape plan. The glow is technically an imperfection but was deemed harmless enough.

Trivia

Grew back and personally ripped off again his own wings several times because they were "not good enough". Ended up deciding to completely substitute them with the array instead.
His array and battle mode have a tail and he tends to fight in a vaguely anymalistic way in close combat, even growing claws, a stark contrast to his more elegant movements when manipulating glass formations at a distance. He sees nothing strange with this if pointed out.
His name, for once, isn't random. It has a meaning related to glass.
