Juventus fires coach Allegri two days after winning Coppa Italia

Italian Serie A Juventus fired Italy coach Massimiliano Allegri (Italy) two days after winning the Coppa Italia, citing damage to his dignity.

Juventus announced on its website on the 18th (Korean time), “Coach Allegri is being dismissed,” and “Coach Allegri’s actions in the Coppa Italia final cannot be paralleled with the club’s values.”

Coach Allegri led Juventus from 2014 to 2019 and led Juventus to five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia wins, and two UEFA Champions League finals over five seasons. Afterwards, he left the team, signed a four-year contract ahead of the 2021-22 season, and took charge of Juventus again, but resigned midway.

Coach Allegri won the trophy by beating Atalanta 1-0 in the 2023-24 Coppa Italia final held on the 16th, but he was sent off for a harsh protest and caused controversy by verbally abusing a reporter.

Coach Allegri, who was protesting the third-round decision at the end of the game, showed rough behavior by throwing his suit jacket and tie when he was ordered to leave. Also, after the game, he got into an argument with a reporter and said, “Write the truth, not just what you heard.” I know where I can meet you. “I will rip off your ears and hit your face,” he threatened.

Accordingly, Juventus decided that they could not continue to work with coach Allegri, who showed extreme behavior, and decided to terminate his contract with two Serie A games remaining.

According to local media, Juventus is expected to hand over the baton to Italian coach Thiago Motta (Italy), who led Bologna to the UEFA Champions League finals for the first time this season.
