The History Of Twilight Princess
Twilight Princess Game Review
The most sombre and dark of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphical presentation to its maximum limits on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more unsettling than The Wind Waker. There aren't any bug-eyed pigs nor effeminate Pirates.
Link is drawn to a parallel dimension known as Twilight Realm where he takes on the form of both Hylian wolf and Hylian Wolf and Hylian wolf Hylian while being guided by Midna.
Gameplay
Twilight Princess is the thirteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda series. It was released for Nintendo GameCube and Wii systems in the year 2006. The game was praised by critics, giving it perfect scores in several publications, including 1UP CVG EGM and GamesRadar. It is regarded by many as the best games in the series, and it was the top-selling Zelda game on the PAL market.
Twilight Princess features naturalistic, stylized graphics style similar to Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, but with a more sophisticated graphical engine. It's the first game in the series to feature a completely directional control scheme instead of a fixed perspective as in previous games. This change was made to accommodate the Wii console's touchscreen that is based on pointing. The GameCube version of the game has a section in the back with mirror-image maps for players who prefer a fixed view.
When entering the Twilight Realm, Link is transformed into a wolf and comes across Midna, the mysterious creature. She informs Link that the kingdom of Hyrule is now under the control of a group of shadow beasts that are led by the evil sorcerer Zant. She also explains she is the true ruler of Twili but was usurped by Zant and cursed to her current form.
When Link and Midna arrive at Hyrule Castle, a short cut scene shows the soldiers there being killed by the shadow creatures. Then, Link and Midna escape from the castle via a tunnel and enter the Twilight Realm.
Link can move more freely around the world in the Twilight Realm by using his wolf form. Link can also make use of his senses to navigate the world. For instance, he could detect the spirits of deceased soldiers and other animals in the distance. He can also whistle and pick grass from certain patches to summon an animal, such as the Hawk, Epona or other. Link can also whistle near the patches to summon an identical animal.
Twilight Princess is no different from previous Zelda games in that music plays a significant role. Link can play instruments that are musical like the flute or harp, to attract and summon various animals. He can also use his voice to command the wolf's form. He can also use his compass as a guide to help him navigate through the world.
Characters
The Legend of Zelda series is full of vibrant characters that leave a lasting impression on players. These unique and imaginative characters that emerge from toilets to pirates soaring across vast oceans are the core of this game. Twilight Princess continues in the tradition of previous games, introducing an array of memorable characters.
Link is introduced to new NPCs throughout the story who are not just interesting, but also believable. It is a huge step in the right direction that many of these NPCs actually play a part in the story rather than simply being there as victims. NPCs like Rusl who explains that the forest is becoming more dangerous and kidnaps children, or the Ordon villager who disguises himself as a wolf while the children are being kidnapped each has their own unique personality.
Other notable characters include Iza, who operates the Boat Rental Cabin and Iza's Rapid Ride in the Lanayru Province, Louise, Telma's cat who helps Wolf Link locate a secret passageway through her bar as well as sewer system that leads to the castle, and Faron who's spirit is the one who guides Link and Midna to the Forest Temple in the Eldin Province. The duo defeats Diababa's Fused Shadow and obtains the first Tear of Light.
Midna is the princess of the Twilight Realm and one of the most captivating characters in the game. She is a part of the Triforce of Wisdom and can change between her human and her wolf-like impish form. She shares with Link about her experience in the twilight, and how she defeated Zant the King of Twilight.
Zant who holds the other half of the Triforce of Wisdom, is a wicked sorcerer and ruler of the Twilight Realm. He was removed to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses for encroaching on their land and enslaving people. Midna removes Zant's power, allowing him to change into his human form if required.
The game also includes an upgraded horse named Epona, which is ridden in Hylian and wolf versions. Link can whistle at grass patches to call the animal (similar to Majora's Mask). Twilight Princess is the first game in the series where the player can identify their horse.
Theme
Music is a crucial element of any Zelda game. It can make a game appear epic as well as expansive and thrilling. However, Twilight Princess is criticized for having an inconsistent and inconsistent soundtrack that fails to convey the emotional impact of certain scenes. Contrastingly, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have enthralling compositions that explode at precisely the right time to create a sense of majestic and eerie.
Toru Minegishi and Asuka Ohta were the composers for the sound design and music in Twilight Princess, with Koji Kondo managing the composers of the series for the first time since Wind Waker. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a bold departure from the traditional approach to the franchise, with an approach that is minimalist in terms of music and arrangement. The majority of dungeon and field music starts with a single instrumental that creates a mystical and atmospheric atmosphere for the player. For instance, the eerie music in Midna's Lament utilizes an ordinary piano to create an overflowing sense of sorrow for the player.
Dungeon themes are among the most prominent examples of this trend towards minimalism, with numerous themes featuring a dull and ominous ambience. This is evident in Twilight Realm, which has an eerie soundscape that could be found on the soundtrack of a David Lynch movie. The absence of melody and the conventional arrangement of this track emphasizes its ominous, spooky nature. Drones and bizarre patterns intertwine to create a dark, eerie texture.
Link's hometown song, "Faron Woods," is a more uplifting and joyful track. This song uses a variety soft sounds and strings to create a calm and secure feeling for the player. The song has an ode to the most famous scene in the franchise, because it has a riff that is similar to the iconic melody that plays at the Ocarina of Time's beginning.
Twilight Princess also has dynamic songs that change based on the player's location, what they do and what's happening. For instance the Hyrule Castle Town theme has various versions for each part of the town and Central Square being the most popular. Central Square having a more lively and full version of the song. These variations are a great touch that helps to add an element of depth and immersion into the world of Hyrule.
Story
Link's goal in Twilight Princess is to save Hyrule from the corrupted world known as the Twilight Realm. To accomplish this, he takes the form of a Hylian and a Wolf and is being assisted by a woman called Midna.
starlight princess is the first ruler of the Twili, but she was usurped by Zant and cursed to her imp form. Link and Midna are informed by the Sages of the Old Testament that only defeating Ganondorf will be in a position to release them from their curse. The Sages explain that the Mirror of Twilight causes the darkness to dwell in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link travel to the Spirit's Spring, where they encounter hostile monsters that kidnap children. Wolf Link's keen ear assists them in tracking the children's scent to a bridge nearby, and then cross over into the Twilight Realm.
They enter the Forest Temple, battle Diababa and obtain the first Fused Shadow. After that, Faron informs them that the next stop is Eldin Province to the west (Wii) or east (GCN).
At the Lakebed Temple in Lanayru, Midna is able to teleport Link to an erupting rock and uses her power to melt the ice that lies at the bottom of Lake Hylia. The spirit of Rutela, the recently deceased Zora Queen, Rutela, then appears and informs Link that he must visit the Lakebed Temple in order to access a treasure of the Zora.
Twilight Princess allows you to ride Epona, the horse from Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. Unlike the set name used in the two previously mentioned games, Link can now decide the horse's name himself.
Midna and Link can recover the remaining Mirror Shards once they arrive in the Twilight Realm. At the Palace of Twilight, the Sages reveal that Midna is actually the true ruler of the Twili however she had been ostracized by the monarchy, and then turned into the gods to obtain power. The Sages also inform them that the only way to defeat Ganondorf is to bring him back to the light and break the pact between Twilight and Hyrule kingdoms.
