Best Robot Hoover Isn't As Tough As You Think

Vacuuming With a Robot Hoover is the Best Hands-Off Model We've Tested

This high-end bot from Eufy is the most hands-free model we've seen so far. It vacuums, mops, and self-empties its bin and washes and dry mop pads without your intervention.

It doesn't feature advanced cleaning functions or a bigger docking system, but it delivers outstanding performance for less than half the cost of the most expensive robotic vacuums. It's compact and can reach under furniture.

Vacuuming

Vacuuming with a robot hoover is a quick, easy way to keep your floors looking and feeling clean. Many of the robots we've picked are built to run on their own without any involvement from you and you can set them up to clean while you're out or start a session from your smartphone. But, you should choose a model that has superior navigation and obstacle detection so that it will not get stuck on the stairs or under furniture.

Some models are better at removing pet hair from rugs than others, which is why it's also important to choose an item that is able to effectively and efficiently clean all flooring types. Look for a robot with a large dust bin that will hold a large amount of dirt between emptying, and a nozzle which does not lose suction when it turns.

Most robots require little to no maintenance, aside from taking out tangled fur from the rotating brush after every cleaning session (and wiping its sensors or camera as needed) and then periodically emptying the bin or using a robot's self-emptying base. If you follow these simple maintenance steps, your robot vacuum should last the same amount of time as a traditional vacuum and help keep your home cleaner for longer.

Robot mops aren't as flexible than vacuums but some can also remove spills and puddles. The iLife V3s Pro is an example of such a machine, which is a great choice for people who have wood floors or a mix of rugs and carpets. It is quiet and has excellent navigation capabilities, which allowed it to avoid obstacles when tested. The charging dock can also double as a trash bin.

For the best results, choose the robot that is capable of mopping and vacuuming simultaneously. This is what the Karcher RCV 5 can do and it comes with additional useful features, such as a live camera that broadcasts a grainy image to your app so you can check on your pet or kids as well as an easily-programmable remote control. Its navigation isn't as solid as the other models we've reviewed however, it can elevate itself over low thresholds and has a generous 500ml dustbin that doesn't have to be emptying often.

Mopping

Robots that vacuum and mop are a fairly new addition to the market. These machines are more expensive and require a separate tank of water than standalone robots. However, they may be worth the extra cost for those who have stains that are difficult to clean or pets.

Some of the best robots can clean floors and carpets and also vacuum. Many brands offer robots that can do both jobs extremely efficiently. The Combo J9+ is among the most efficient mopping robots that we've test. It has docks that can hold up to 60 days worth of dirt. This is a significant improvement over the Qrevo Pro which ran out water after only mopping 30 days of dirt during our tests.

The Tapo RV30 Plus from networking giant TP Link is another excellent two-in-one. It's compact and quiet, with an attractive, clutter-free appearance. In our test rooms it cleaned the floors accurately and thoroughly - it was particularly adept at cleaning rugs. However, it required several runs to clean certain areas of soiled wooden. Its LIDAR navigation works well, too. It avoids bumping into furniture or running over power cables.

It's a bit slow on the stairs however that's to expected from a small robot designed to overcome obstacles. The only issue is its mopping pad attachment, that was difficult to use and didn't stay in its place during our tests. It is also not capable of dealing with dried-on dust and dust, which makes it more like a vacuum than a robot mop.

Despite these shortcomings, it's still a solid choice for those who want an effortless cleaning experience that can handle carpets that are bare or low-pile with equal ease. It has a decent amount of suction, which allowed it to remove dust and pet hair from carpets. One of the most appealing features is its automatic carpet recognition which increases the strength of the vacuum to tackle dirt that has been embedded. It's easy to use, and the charging dock automatically empty the bin when it's full. This is a great feature for apartment dwellers.

Cleaning Apps

Nearly every robot vacuum mop, sweeper, or mop has an app that lets you customize cleaning routines, select rooms to clean, schedule cleaning sessions, and change settings such as suction, water level, and scrub power. Some robots also have intelligent dirt detection, which uses the data from previous cleaning sessions and maps data to identify areas that are dirty and optimize cleaning mode.

Having an app also allows you to create virtual barriers and no-go zones to keep your robot away from potentially dangerous objects, such as cords, pet water bowls, and sharp objects. Some models come with laser navigation sensors that permit you to create virtual barriers while others feature small physical barriers and boundary strips that can be put anywhere you'd like to limit your floor area.

The most effective robot vacuums and mops are smart enough to detect obstacles and avoid them, but there are still some hazards to watch out for. For instance, the main brush could get stuck in long cords or curtains, which can stop the machine from moving. You can avoid this by clearing the area of all cords and tying off any long curtains before running your robot.

Certain robots automatically update their software, which controls the navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithm. This improves performance and decreases the wear and tear of the robot's internal parts. It is a good idea to regularly to check the website of the manufacturer or your robot's app for firmware updates.

If you have a large house, consider a model with multiple cleaning modes. The iRobot Roomba 11S Max, for example, can mop and vacuum carpeted floors as well as hard floor rooms with different suction levels. It can also automatically change to the highest power setting on carpets and increase its scrubbing power by using SmartScrub.

A robot with the ability to speak is a great choice for those who want to be hands off. The iRobot Roomba 980 can be controlled by Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant. robot vacuum cleaner for sale has a small self-emptying docking station, as well as powerful cleaning motor that leaves your floors sparkling.
