Testing Guidelines, Priorities, and Proper Testing Techniques

Testing Guidelines
NOTE:
Sometimes people “call” tests hours before they plan on actually doing any testing. Please let’s not do this. Lets face it, life happens and what you're really telling people is “i got this, don’t bother.” People will not test when they might have otherwise and well … the simple truth is you may never actually get around to testing even though you planned on it. Because of this not only did you not end up testing but NO ONE ends up doing the testing.
So please wait until you're actually downloading the game to test before you say that you're testing and what you plan to test to avoid these types of issues.
Testing game repacks is an important step in ensuring that the repack is functional and ready for distribution, but please remember you are testing the REPACK and not JUST the game itself!
Here are some instructions on how to test game repacks:
- Verify that all images and game art are correct and match the game. Ensure that the images are of high quality and are not stretched.
- Confirm that icons have matching texts, and that the correct icons are installed for VD, SteamVR, etc.
- Check that the game size is reasonably close, meaning what it says on our repack matches the installed numbers... We aren't talking about the exact byte but more just to make sure it's in the ballpark. If it says 100GB and ours says 5GB well that's an issue. If it says 93GB and ours says 95.1GB that's not an issue….
- Verify that all shortcuts work without errors.
- Ensure that the game installs properly and that the gameplay works without any issues.
- Test the controls to confirm that they work correctly during gameplay, including vr controller support. Gamepads are extra IMO, if you want to test and comment that's fine but id rather not hold back a game for something like extra control methods.
- Make sure the ? INFO page has the correct info
- If it says + OFME, confirm that the "online-fix-me" patch works by attempting to start or join an online game to check for errors. Also MAKE SURE THE SHORTCUT IS REQUESTING ADMIN! Very important to non VD OFME shortcuts
-
When using an ISXPM update patch, install the update to the previous version.
- Confirm that the patch applies without errors and that the updated version works properly
Please report in AG Testing channel under the relevant game comment line. No matter how small the issue seems to be, please report it. You may not be sure it even IS an issue but better to report and let the repacker decide if it is an issue and how serious the issue is. If you report ANY issue also give your recommendation if the game is releasable, rejected, or needs more testing, whatever the case may be. We may not agree with you but your opinion will certainly be taken into account.
By performing these checks, you can identify any issues and ensure that the game is ready for distribution.
PLEASE
If any of these things AREN'T correct please document the issue or issues with screenshots to try to help the repacker fix what is needed if anything. To make sure you are taking a USEFUL screenshot, think about if the screenshot is giving more info then your text explanation did AND if it will help the repacker fix the issue. If either of those are answered with NO you either need to find a new screenshot or maybe a screenshot isnt needed.
Testing Priorities
- Most important
The stuff we need tested that's already on the live mirror. We are about quality and everything should work. So if we get a complaint we will post in AG Testing for a quick test and that's top priority to us. We want it gone if it doesn't work and if it does we want to help people by explaining it if possible or at least assuring them it works for us. - Isxpm patches
Updates (the repacks} are generally quick tests because the game has been cracked before we are less worried about them. we know they work usually. But an isxpm there's a lot of things that could go wrong on the testing and on the building side. And we don't want updates being held back because these are being skipped. I'd like every tester to at least understand the process so if you don't get with DMP or George or ask in staff. - New repacks
New repacks are good but updates and live shit is just more important. We would appreciate if everything else had priority.
Proper Testing Techniques
- PC Games There is not much to mention here
- Launch the game through the shortcut, not the exe, to properly test the repack
- If there is a readme, attempt to follow the directions and make sure that they are clear and concise. Recommend changes if they are needed.
- PCVR Games
- Please test all shortcuts you are able to. Launch the game through the shortcut, not the exe, to properly test the repack. There will be normally 2 or more shortcuts. Quest users will use Meta and VD if they exist and if no meta shortcut exists, there should be a SteamVR shortcut to use. Any non oculus headsets should use the SteamVR only - unless they are on Pico and own VD in which case, the VD shortcut should be used. Please mention which shortcuts you tested in your report.
- The SteamVR shortcut should be used for any non oculus headset. The SteamVR shortcut should also be used If you are on an Oculus/Meta device when no Meta shortcut exists (if the meta shortcut exists follow the same directions as SteamVR) and when you either do not own VD or are testing the non VD shortcut. For an Oculus/Meta device you should launch the oculus dash in your headset, then launch the desktop mode, and then the SteamVR or Meta shortcut
- VD shortcuts should only be used for VD owners. Launch VD in your headset and then launch the desktop shortcut from inside your headset
- If there is a readme, attempt to follow the directions and make sure that they are clear and concise. Recommend changes if they are needed.

STEAM LINK
DO NOT TEST VR GAMES WITH THIS! It is too new and unstable and as I will not be helping troubleshoot issues of users using this, i also dont want to be helping staff either. Testing is SUPPOSED to make our lives easier not add more work! For now there is no rhyme or reason to the launch method yet. Maybe one day this will be a good program but for now it is best to avoid for pirated games. Use it on games you own.
THANKS
Thanks for all the work you guys do - It's much appreciated! Also, thank you for taking the time to read this as well! I know we can be annoying with our high standards but its not something we are willing to negotiate with. We want ARMGDDN to be a group we all can take pride in and we enjoy a good reputation and that starts with quality, download speed, and dependability ! This is a group effort and ARMGDDN wouldnt have gone anywhere without you all, we love you like family.
