Audio FX — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-24

Summary

Audio FX does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. All audio processing happens locally on your device. The only network request the extension makes is to ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com) to verify your Pro subscription status if you have one.

What is stored on your device

The extension stores the following in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) and, if you enable Cloud Sync, in chrome.storage.sync:

  • Your effect settings: speed, volume, EQ values, reverb amount, pitch tuning, 8D rate, etc.
  • Your saved custom presets
  • Your uploaded custom reverb impulse-response file (only the one currently in use)
  • Per-site profile settings, if Per-Site Profiles is enabled
  • UI preferences: precision mode, cloud sync, per-site mode, first-run flag

None of this data is transmitted to us or to any third party except as described under "Third parties" below.

Audio processing

Audio FX intercepts audio from <audio> and <video> elements on web pages you visit, or — when you explicitly click "Enable tab capture" — the audio output of the current tab. All audio is processed entirely on your device using the browser's Web Audio API.

No audio is uploaded, recorded, or stored unless you explicitly use the Record / Export feature, in which case the resulting .webm file is downloaded directly to your device.

Permissions and why they are needed

  • storage — save your settings locally on your device.
  • activeTab — know which tab you are configuring when you open the popup.
  • scripting — inject the audio engine into web pages so it can apply effects.
  • tabCapture — optionally capture the rendered audio of a tab so the extension can process audio from DRM-protected sites such as Spotify. Only activated when you explicitly click "Enable tab capture."
  • offscreen — run the Web Audio engine in an offscreen document, required by Manifest V3 to process captured tab audio.
  • downloads — deliver your exported audio recordings to your device.
  • host permissions <all_urls> — apply audio effects on any website that plays media you want to enhance.

Third parties

The only third-party service contacted by this extension is ExtensionPay, used exclusively to verify your Pro subscription status. ExtensionPay receives the email address you provide during checkout. ExtensionPay's handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policy. The extension does not include analytics, advertising, tracking, or telemetry.

Payments

If you choose to subscribe to Audio FX Pro, all payment processing is handled by ExtensionPay (which uses Stripe). The extension never sees, processes, or stores your payment details.

Children

Audio FX is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Material changes will be noted in the extension's update notes.
