Personality disorders are Long-term patter of behaviour and inner experiences that differ signigicantly from ''normal'', personality disorders are divided by... BPD factors
Family History: Close Family with BPD Brain Structure: Amydala function and/or size difference, prefrontal cortex and neurotransmitters Enviroment: abuse, neglect, or separation as young children, 40-71% report being sexually abused, considerably more likely victims of violence, including rape, approx. 70% of individuals had childhood maltreatment, individual vulnerability (resilience) to environmental situations, predisposed aggression, which may have impaired regulation circuits
DSM-5 criteria for BPD
Need to meet at least 5 of the criteria~
¹.frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. note: do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in criterion 5. ².a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
³.identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.
⁴. impulsivity in at least 2 areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating). note: do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in criterion 5.
⁵. recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures or threats, or self-mutilating behavior.
⁶. affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days).
⁷.chronic feelings of emptiness.
⁸.inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights).
⁹. transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms.
COMORBID DISORDERS
Patients with borderline personality disorder have been shown to have high rates of comorbid disorders, namely: ♥︎ mood disorders 80% to 96% ♥︎ anxiety disorders 88% ♥︎ substance abuse disorders 64% ♥︎ eating disorders 53% ♥︎ attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd) 10%-30% ♥︎ bipolar disorder 15% ♥︎ somatoform disorders 10%

DIAGNOSIS
differential diagnosis: other conditions that may explain the symptoms someone is experiencing rule out: the expert is trying to discount or disprove possible or probable diagnoses must meet 5 or more criteria from DSM-5 Diagnosis is more commun arround 18+ but there is still the possibily of diagnosis before with a 1+ of symptoms you can get a diagnosis but it is quite rare since it's better to wait till you are no longer a minor because of hormonal changes
