Right... so, you're wanting to know about me? Basil Barnes. Shit name, by the way. My mum was a fucking idiot for that one but hey ho, not like my dad had a chance to name me. For context, yes I am James Buchanan Barnes' son. I'm not adopted. I was made in a very weird time for my dad. He'd oftentimes escape Hydra's grips and attempt to live his life away from them but he'd always get pulled back. It just so happened that he met my mum, Aria Cooper, and fell in love with her. Not sure why, proper prick she is. My mum told my dad something like "I'm not sure I want a kid" and my dad said "you're going to be a great mother, whatever you pick" and for some fuck off reason she picked to have me. Didn't make much sense since she left me right away. My dad got taken back by Hydra and I was all alone, little baby Basil. Now, I will admit, my mum didn't leave leave. She sent me off to a boarding school the second I was able to go and paid for it all. For you Americans, it hasn't got anything to do with that shitty wizard book. It's a fucking shit hole most of the time unless you're like... the Queen. Anyway, I weren't the best kid, either, to be honest. I actually got into trouble all the time and it was a big old waste of my mum's money to begin with, not fucking sorry though. I did eventually meet this other kid called Kelso and mate he's been my best friend ever since. He sort of mellows me out in a way, it's why we've stuck together for so long.

I'm about to be a bit vulnerable with you, so don't take the piss out of me. I found that art relaxes me, so I took up painting for most of my childhood but y'know, that don't pay the bills, does it? It were more of an hobby that it were a potential career. Now, something about me is that I'm obsessed with my dad. Had never met him once but I thought he was the coolest man on Earth. I knew that he weren't what the news painted him out to be because my mum was kind enough to let me in on the secret that it wasn't him. You know in school when the teachers ask what you want to be when you grow up? My answer was always a soldier. I wouldn't settle for anything less than being just like my dad. He was, and still is, my idol. It baffles me that half my DNA is his or.. however that works. I was 14 when shit went down with my dad being some... evil.. what the fuck do you even call it? I don't fucking know mate, I didn't watch the news because they kept shit talking my dad and I weren't having it. This part of my life is when I realised that punching people is easier than whatever else I were doing, because everyone kept saying that I was going to end up a 'villain' like my dad and it was starting to really piss me off. I got in even more trouble, as you can imagine, but you finish school at 16 anyway so it weren't like I had long.

I intended on joining the army when I turned 18. Kelso and I went to a shitty little college after secondary school in the middle of London. I did art and he did public safety. We both passed obviously, absolute fucking legends we are. I'd signed up for the army during the exam period and was accepted, of course. Famously, the army is shite in England. Always has been. Our Navy was treated like a princess and our army was always treated like a... what's an ugly animal? A naked mole rat. It's mostly because we're not land locked by the other countries - we're an island. Little history lesson for you there. One of my main goals was to change the army, I wanted people to be treated better and so on. We had the entire summer to get through before I abandoned my only friend, so we decided we'd make the most of it. There was one night where we got absolutely fucking shitfaced, honestly it was a good night until it got to about 2am. I got into a fight at the club because some guy was harassing a group of women. I may be a bit of a twat but men like that piss me the fuck off. I was so drunk, I wasn't going to let it go so when he walked out the club, Kelso and I followed him out and we got into another fight which led to the police coming and arresting the three of us. It weren't looking great for me and Kelso, considering we'd followed him out after the guy had left it. We were discussing what we were going to do when an officer walked in and told us we were free to go which confused the shit out of me because Kelso hasn't got anyone and my mum had died by that point.

When we got out to the front of the station, some man was stood there smoking a cigar and I obviously thought he was well cool. He told us that he'd bailed us out because he'd seen how we'd fought, he thought we could be pretty good assets to his team. I told him we weren't interested and then he threatened us. He said he'd have the guy killed and we'd be framed. Banging that, innit? We went through the whole thing of figuring out what his team actually was and basically! The guy's name is Bear and he runs an organisation of assassins, essentially. Well, his real name isn't Bear but everyone goes by code names of animals. I'm Viper, Kelso is Barracuda We couldn't really say no, so we joined his stupid fucking group of little dickheads that have been blackmailed by this prick. We were actually pretty good at what we did, so we were favoured by Bear the entire time. I don't mind the job, really. It's not often we're paid to harm people that are innocent. It's usually criminals vs criminals. It's immoral but it's not.. the worst it could be? We often make a scene if it's someone who doesn't deserve it and since we're favoured, Bear will tell the person hiring to fuck right off because we aren't going to do it.

I met my dad, too. Right after the avengers all split up. It took me fucking ages to convince them to let me go to Wakanda to meet my dad. To be fair, anyone could just waltz in and say they're Bucky Barnes' son. I didn't see him often but I did get that chance to have a dad... up until the blip. Luckily, Kelso and I didn't actually blip and we got to continue working... hooray. When I was 20, Kelso and I got put onto a 3 month long mission that turned into a year. Weird year, that was. Everyone seems to think I was gone for 3 years but I would remember that. Surely, I would. I don't know, that entire part of my life is fucked and I don't really remember what was happening but it definitely wasn't 3 whole years. You're all batshit fucking crazy, I swear. My dad and I have been a lot closer since he.. unblipped? It's good to know one of my parents actually wanted me. I'm doing little Bas proud, too. He would be freaking out knowing we got to meet our dad and actually have a relationship with him.
