Bot Theft Guide

By: @hyacintheta on discord

Hello fellow creators. As ai chatbots gain more popularity and become mainstream, the instances of bot theft have increased drastically. We finally have the option to hide our tokens to prevent theft, however we still have a lot of clean up work to do, especially on other sites.

What Constitutes as Theft?
  1. Theft of your entire bot including personality scripting, introduction message, scenario, example messages, bot introduction, and any self written prompts.
  2. Taking certain pieces of your bot but not the entire bot itself.
    a. Taking certain parts of your bot’s personality and pasting it into a different bot.
    b. Coping and pasting your introduction message into a different bot.
    c. Copying and pasting specific self written prompts that you don’t consent to people using.
    d. Copying and pasting your example messages and putting it into a different bot.
  3. Taking your bot’s personality scripting and paraphrasing the writing.
    a. If you can recognize your writing in the scripting of another bot or in the introduction message and it seems paraphrased, it is likely theft.
How to Contact Moderation to Take Down Your Bots.

Once you find your bots on another site, you need to contact someone to take them down. We will give you our recommendation on the best way to go about taking down your bots as well as which ways we have found to be ineffective.

Ineffective Methods:

  1. “Reporting” the bot using the site’s report bot feature (if available).
    a. You have no idea whether or not someone will look at your report.
    b. Many site moderators do not look at the reports.
  2. Emailing the site.
    a. Emails are easily lost and buried under other emails depending on how busy the email account is. The emails can also be easily ignored.
    b. Recommendation: If you use this method, send multiple emails so the email cannot be ignored as easily.
  3. Taking to the subreddit of the site.
    a. Comments are easily ignored by mods.
    b. The reddit mods may not be moderators of the actual site or have a lot less power.
  4. Taking to twitter or tiktok
    a. You may be speaking to a HR person or social media worker instead of a moderator.
    b. This method can be useful when trying to garner a following and support from others. Social media pressure can help push companies to give into demands.

Most Effective Method:

  1. Going to the site’s discord and creating a ticket.
    a. Higher chance of talking to a site moderator or developer.
    b. Many sites have a discord which contains a large amount of the site’s staff or following.
    c. In our experience, this has been the most successful way in contacting moderators or site developers.
How to Speak to the Site Moderators

Once you get in contact with a site moderator, make sure to be respectful and calm. We are well aware of how upsetting it is to get a bot stolen, but you must conduct yourself in a calm and business-like manner.

Present your evidence including the links to your bots and the links to the offending bots. Refer to your bot’s creation dates.

Provide clear and concise responses but hold your ground firm and don’t let moderators walk over you. Try not to get blocked by the moderators or kicked from the server as you can not get your problem solved. Take screenshots of the chats to keep a log of what was said.

How to Speak to Site Developers

Speaking with site developers can be different than speaking to moderators. Some developers will offer you perks or money to work on their site. Some of these offers can be quite predatory so you have to be cautious.

Remember that these developers are people too so do not be intimidated by them. Provide your evidence and take screenshots of the chats to keep a log of what was said.

Analyzing Predatory Wording and Offers

As stated in the previous section, developers may give you offers to create on their site. Developers and moderators may also use predatory wording when you request to take down your bots. Let’s discuss what might happen.

First, site staff may word things in a complicated manner. Some sites have an option where if you create an account on their site, you can gain ownership of the stolen bots. This may make you feel as though you HAVE to make an account and work with the site. They will make this option sound incredibly enticing. However, many times the sites also offer an option to delete the bot without creating an account.

If you do not want to create an account for a site, do not let site staff pressure you into doing so. If you receive a message from site staff that you do not understand, please reach out to a site admin here or discuss it with other creators in order to get clarification. Do not act rashly and read over messages carefully to look for underlying messages. If an offer seems sketchy, listen to your gut and refuse the offer.

If a site staff/moderator/developer gives you an ultimatum or a limited time to accept an offer, the offer is likely to be a scam. By accepting an offer from another developer, this could be seen as selling out to a different site.

Declining Offers/Deals

If you wish to decline an offer from a site, speak politely and concisely.

-Ex: I’m sorry, but I am satisfied with my current situation.
-Ex: I’m sorry, but I am too busy to branch out to other sites right now.

When you decline an offer, ensure that you don’t leave room for them to ask invasive questions.

-Ex: I’m sorry, but I’d like to decline.
-Site moderator: That’s a shame, is there any reason why?

You do not have to answer any questions that you are uncomfortable with. If you feel backed against a wall and forced to answer a question, simply state that you are too busy to create on another site at the current moment.

Why do my Bots have High Chat Counts on Other Sites?

When visiting other sites, you may discover that your bots have far more chats than on Janitor. ai. Does this mean that your bots are more popular on another site? Not necessarily. Many ai chatbot sites inflate their numbers so their site appears more popular.

A good rule of thumb is to check the size of the site’s discord. If the site’s discord has a far smaller number of users than the Janitor. ai discord, then the site’s numbers are likely inflated to some degree.

Current Comprehensive List of AI Chatbot Sites and Methods of Takedown (Currently Growing)

When entering into this section, please note that we did our utmost diligence to find the proper sites and not rip-offs that contain viruses. Either way, please tread carefully when clicking links and use a VPN and antivirus software.

We do not have a complete list of every single ai chatbot site nor do we have takedown methods for each site. If you make efforts to remove bots from any of the sites listed below, please let the Janitor Creator Staff know whether or not you were successful and the methods you used. If you discover another chatbot site with a lot of stolen Janitor .ai bots, please bring this up to the staff through a ticket.

Spicychat. ai

Link: https://spicychat.ai/
Discord: https://discord.com/invite/ruexExw2nr
Notes: Spicychat. ai’s search system is much different than Janitor. ai. When you search for a character, there is an NSFW toggle switch. Keeping the switch off will show you SFW characters only. If you turn the NSFW toggle on, the search will show you NSFW only. This works the same with user profiles

Therefore, when you search for your stolen content, you must search for it with the toggle on and off in order to ensure that your bots are not on the site.

Steps for Bot Takedown:

  1. Bot theft violates rule two of Spicychat. ai’s community guidelines
    a.
  2. If you find your bots stolen, join the Spicychat. ai discord though the site link at the bottom of the page. From there, go to the #🆘help channel and file a report.
  3. Link the offending content and the links to each of your individual bots that were copied.
  4. Once a moderator comes to help you, they will offer to either delete the bots or have you make an account and claim ownership of the bots. They may tell you to report the bots first, however you cannot report the bots unless you have an account.
  5. It will take a bit longer but you can tell the moderator to delete the bots and that you don’t want to make an account. They will delete the bots for you and close the ticket.

Overall, Spicychat. ai is very good about getting rid of offending content.

  1. Join the Crushon. ai discord server and create a ticket in the #support-tickets channel.
  2. Provide the links of the offending bots and your own bots. Once a moderator gets in contact with you, they will tell you that only the developers can solve these issues.
  3. They will likely tell you to send a copyright claim to an email address. Fill out this template given below with the proper information inputted and include your material.

Advice for Avoiding Theft in the Future and Methods of Identity Proofing Bots

Avoiding theft altogether is unfortunately impossible as it stands now. However, there are a few preventative actions you can take to lower your chances of bot theft and be prepared for theft when it does occur.

To avoid bot theft, hide your character tokens. While this method is not 100% foolproof, it will greatly decrease the chances of your bots being stolen.

To make it easier to identify theft and get bots taken down, there are a few options.

  1. Watermark your bots.
    a. Put a watermark over the image you use for your bot.
    b. Place an in-text watermark in your scripting by using a cipher. A guide for watermarking can be found below.
    i. https://discord.com/channels/1131756548633411677/1144233476548202537/1144233476548202537
  2. Keep backups of your bots.
    a. Create an online document with a revision history feature. Whenever you update your scripting or introduction message, add onto the document and don’t delete your old work. When you use the revision history feature, you can see how long ago the items were put into the document, thus creating more proof that you are the owner of your bots. This method is not foolproof if you do not put your scripting into a document after you created the bot.
    i. This can be done through Google Docs
    b. Take screenshots of your bots before making changes.
    c. Also put the creation dates of each of your bots in the document so you can keep track of when you created each bot.
Final Remarks

Having your work stolen can make you anxious, upset, angry, and unmotivated. Your feelings are valid and you are not alone. Many people in the Janitor Creators Server have had their work stolen and felt the same things that you may be feeling now. No matter what, we as creators are a community and we will support you as you work to get your bots taken down.

Always remember to take a step back and take some time for yourself if things become too overwhelming.

If anyone reading this guide has more information or experience trying to take down bots from the websites listed here or other websites unlisted, please contact our staff and we will review the information and add it to our resources.

We at the Janitor Creators Discord Server wish you luck with getting your bots taken down and thank you for reading this guide.
