1960 Succession Crisis

King Edmund and Queen Griselda had two children: Theodore and Marianne. As he aged, both of his children made their opposition to inherit the throne became known. In 1960, Theodore asked for King Edmund’s blessing to marry the young monarch of Reichenbach, Princess Sophie. The marriage would made render him uneligible to become future king, however King Edmund reluctantly agreed to his son’s wish.

Thus, King Edmund’s youngest brother, Prince Louis, the Duke of Aberdeen, became heir presumptive to the crown. Unfortunately, Duke of Aberdeen and his wife were childless. He arranged a diplomatic envoy to Reichenbach to encourage the possibility of Theodore inheriting Crownrealms throne; as well as mending the relationship between King Edmund and his only son.

Foreign minister Sir Arthur Schaeffer proposed that instead of Prince Theodore, his eldest child, Hereditary Princess Edmée should be appointed heir. King Edmund who was very fond of his granddaughter personally asked the 15-year-old lass for her willingness to succeed him. Edmèe agreed.

The Duke of Aberdeen acted as mentor to Princess Edmée. In 1987, the princess married second son of Count Holmwood, Lord Victor Mortcombe. With the succession issue was thought to be cleared, the Duke and Duchess of Aberdeen adopted Sir Arthur Schaeffer’s infant daughter, Leia, who had lost his mother due to illness. Sir Arthur Schaeffer had planned to give up Leia to relatives before the noble couple volunteered to take care of her.

King Edmund blessed the adoption under the condition that Leia should never enter the line of succession. Despite that, the faction who despised Theodore as traitor and Princess Edmée as foreign influence grew larger. They rallied behind Duke of Aberdeen’s name and his heir. On a violent protest near London, 19—20 October 1997, two people lost their lives.

In the heating strife regarding the succession, King Edmund died. Queen Edmée was coronated under enormous security on 2 May 1998 at Waynor Castle. She honored The Duke and Duchess of Aberdeen as Councellors of the State.
