  • Why the MPK Mini? It’s portable, affordable, and it integrates seamlessly with Ardour and other DAWs. It’s been particularly useful for quickly sketching out ideas and adding layers of percussion to tracks.

Observation: The transition to incorporating a MIDI controller has improved my productivity and creativity. It allows for more dynamic input compared to the keyboard and mouse, which feels more restrictive when playing instruments or adding virtual instruments.

3.2 Replacing the Audio Interface

After several years of using the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, I decided to upgrade to a MOTU M2 audio interface. The main reason for this change was the addition of better headphone amp quality, a more transparent AD/DA conversion, and the inclusion of loopback functionality for streaming or podcasting.

4. Challenges and Limitations

4.1 Space Constraints

One of the biggest challenges I continue to face is space. My studio is a small room with limited options for speaker placement, which affects both my workflow and my sound. Although the acoustic treatments have improved the listening experience, the physical size of the room still limits the full potential of the equipment.

Limitation: The small size of the room means that I have to be selective about gear placement and room treatment. Low-end frequencies are difficult to control in this environment, and while I can improve sound quality to an extent, the limitations of the space are always present.
