John Wick
I love John Wick. The movies have been my special interest since 2018. My personal order of favoritism is JW1 > JW3 > JW2 > JW4 ok I have so many good memories attached to these movies. The first one absolutely changed my life, the Red Circle Club scene is one of my favorite sequences (if not my favorite) of all time. I firmly believe JW1 changed action post 2014, and is insanely enjoyable even if you don't consider yourself an action fan. And I think that's part of what makes this movie so special!

Tombstone JW1 & JW2 2/18/18 , JW3 5/16/19 , JW4 3/24/23. Saw the Continental in NY 2/21/22, John Wick Experience (Vegas) 8/19/25.

If you're a fan of funny kills, long shots, beautiful framing & color grading, and good characters, I think you should give it a try! If you are interested in watching, please scroll to the bottom of the page.

John Wick: Chapter 2

Gun Favorite Kills (Spoilers, obviously):

John Wick: Chapter 4

Kunai Favorite Characters:

  • Jardani Jovanovich (the guy this rentry is for) The main antihero with internal conflict of two selves: John Wick, the husband, and the boogeyman.
  • Zero Main antagonist of John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum sent by the Adjudicator to try and kill John. He and his team are heavily skilled in martial arts training. He runs a sushi bar, and is a cat person.
  • Marcus John's old friend, we can assume from the military. A professional sniper and hired by Viggo to kill John. He opts to not.
  • Viggo Tarasov † Head of the Tarasov family, he and John have had many run ins in the past. He gave John the "impossible task" and is the father of Iosef. The actor, Michael Nyqvist, passed away in 2017.
  • Winston Owner of the New York Continental, and a bitch. I love this guy.
  • Sofia Al-Azwar Trained agent, cool dog lady. John helped her daughter escape the assassin world.
  • Charon † The receptionist of the New York Continental, and Winston's main assistant. Very sweet to John's dog, and speaks little. Lance Reddick passed away in 2023.
  • Bowery King King of the city, master communicator. He leads all of the homeless in New York and also has a love for birds. Close friends with Winston.
  • Caine Blind assassin, former friend of John's. Sent to kill him in John Wick Chapter 4. Uses motion detectors to fight enemies, and is fighting to protect his daughter.
  • Adjudicator First nonbinary character in John Wick! Oversees the Continentals for the High Table.
  • Mr. Nobody A man purely in it for the bounty, he and his dog go insane measures to get the most from finding John Wick. He is also known as The Tracker.
  • Akira Introduced in John Wick 4 and portrayed by none other than the talented Rina Sawayama, she is the daughter of Koji Shimazu of the Osaka Continental, devoted to kill Caine for revenge.

John Wick: Chapter 4

ok Trivia:

  • XAB235, his iconic Ford Mustang 69, was the exact same one used by Winston in the past.
  • John Wick's back tattoo Fortis Fortuna Adiuviat means Fortune Favors the Bold. This is typically used as a military motto, which would check out for many reasons, however it's not exactly confirmed if he was in the military.
  • Chad Stahelski, the director, makes a couple of appearances throughout the movies, namely as an enemy who was very hard to defeat!
  • Chad Stahelski was also Keanu Reeves' stunt double in The Matrix movies, so he knows his limits.
  • The storyline place in October 2014, or we can assume, since the events all transpire within the span of a couple weeks.
  • When John goes to grab the unnamed dog in John Wick, you can see on the cage that the dog was supposed to be put down.
  • For John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum, Winston goes on to say Si Vis Pacem, Parabellum, which translates to If you want peace, prepare for war.
  • In John Wick: Chapter 2, John says "guns, lots of guns." This is a reference to The Matrix, where he says the same thing.
  • The only stunts Keanu does not do is one where he is hit by cars. Everything else is all him!
  • If you like any of these movies, you probably liked Bullet Train (2022). The director, David Leitch, also was a director on the first 3 JW movies! He has a very distinct directing style, it's hard to miss.

John Wick: Behind the Scenes

Shuriken What Exactly Makes This So Special To Me?:

Fair warning: this is just a bunch of autistic ranting.

To say this movie influenced everything about me is an understatement. I found these movies when I was 14, I watched the first two with my father, & the second two in theaters. I was kind of roughly coming to terms with who I was identity wise -- all I knew is I was definitely some sort of man. I had consistent internal conflict, my parents had freshly divorced, millions of insecurities, etc. You name it! I made my whole brand online John Wick, including Tumblr themes, usernames, (if you remember anyone named @fuckjohnwick that was 100% me), even my grandma crocheted me a portrait of Keanu. It was my birthday gifts for years, & I'm immensely grateful. One day I'll post a picture of my shrine here!

Well ... as described so aptly by Keanu Reeves in his 2019 GQ magazine feature:

“He's got this beautiful, tragic conundrum—these two selves,” says Reeves. “The John who was married, and John Wick, the assassin. John wants to be free. But the only way he knows how is through John Wick. And John Wick keeps fucking killing people and breaking rules. We're really watching a person fight for their life and their soul.”

This is my favorite quote about these movies of all time because it really is true. John Wick is such an exceptionally strong willed and complex character. I could probably make an entire separate webpage about how much I hate how people treat his character. But that's besides the point. In the midst of everything going on in my life, and my therapist diagnosing me with hypervigilance, to have someone that I could rely on for my wellbeing and a calm mentality absolutely saved me. Still to this day, my default nervous system reset (aside from trying to immerse myself in my special interests when needed) is just simply thinking about John Wick. Would John Wick really be phased by this?

Usually, the answer for me is no. Bandage
