Jolly Escape Tournament

A cocktail with an essence of both Puzzles and Escapes

This is a tournament featuring races of the amazing produce of Games2Jolly.com, a website dedicated to bringing quality flash escape puzzle games to you every day. With such classics as Museum Treasure Escape, Rescue the Cuckoo Bird, Jolly Boy Rescue 7, Old Man Warrior Escape, and Car Escape From Dilapidated Area, it is surely one of the most beloved sources of entertainment for our generation.

(Note: We are not endorsed by, affiliated with, or related to Games2Jolly.com. I don't even suggest you even open their website in a browser. If I could figure out how to disable autolinking, I would.)

This is intended to be a small, casual, silly tournament, running quickly through the latter half of November and into December. We'll see how many people join to figure out exact scheduling.

Format:

  • Players will receive a random Games2Jolly.com Escape the Room title, from a non-exhaustive list of games indexed in Flashpoint.
    • If either or both Players are familiar with the game revealed, either through personal play or by seeing someone else solve it, they are expected to redraw and race a different game.
  • Each match will be a Best of Three races, until Top Four. Winner's, Loser's, and Grand Finals will be Best of Five (including potential for bracket reset.)
  • Start on the "Instruction" screen, one click after the title. (Start on the title screen if no instructions are available.)
  • End on the Game Score screen, after the JOLLY ESCAPE text.
  • Races should be recorded using the srlcode games2jolly, with the Goal as the specific game title.

Rules:

  1. Receiving outside information from the internet is against the rules.
    • This includes walkthroughs, your opponent's stream, any restreams, online dictionaries, anagram solvers, or any other general information.
    • Note taking and other tools are allowed - notepads, snipping tool, calculator, or any physical media you wish to use are legal.
  2. Using flash controls is forbidden. The only action you should need to take is left clicking, or extremely rarely keyboard input.
  3. Using controls inside the game - excluding the walkthrough button - is allowed. If the game provides a 'skip puzzle' button, it may be pressed to save time.
  4. Races are indefinite length. If neither racer has finished the game in 20 minutes, at any point both racers may agree the game is too stupid and to annul the race, regardless of relative progress. They will start anew in a fresh draw.
Useful Advice:

(All of these are general rules - with so many games developed over many years, there are exceptions.)

  • Even if a puzzle looks brute forceable, the game may require you to have revealed, possibly even zoomed in on, the solution for it to work.
  • Items will be removed from your inventory when no longer needed. Objects will no longer be clickable when you've used their information.
  • You may have to combine items, and then take them out of the item combination screen by clicking again.
  • When you get stuck, look for things you can still click on - objects you can interact with are not always obvious.
  • Feel free to practice - there are over 1600 games in the pool. Even with a 64 person tournament, with each match going to the final game, we would barely use one quarter of those.
  • Races will be conducted and timed through SRL.
  • Games should be played through Flashpoint.
    • In case of a flashpoint download outage - Add the line "Jollymania http://mooware.at/dl/jollymania"
to the Flashpoint 8.2 Infinity/Server/router_base_urls.txt file.
  • The full list of games used for the tournament is available on this spreadsheet.
  • The bracket will be managed through Challonge. Please register by Sunday, November 15th.
  • General communication and organization will be on the Mystery/Blinds Discord, in the #escape-tourney channel.
    • Please contact Exuno#5912, InternetDirigible#5826, or BlasphemousRoar#9136 with questions or concerns.
  • No dedicated contact form. If you're confused on who you're opponent is, just ask in discord and someone will figure it out.
  • Many, but not all, races will be restreamed on the MysteryFunHouse twitch channel.
  • Scheduled matches can be entered into This Form, with the responses viewable on This Sheet.

Best Wishes, Jollymania...
