without further redo, lets start!
FICTIONKINS : Fictionkins are people who have deep connections with a fictional character, whether its canon or an AU, the connection is so deep they identify themselves as that character! There are abbrivations we Fictionkins use, and i will list them down below
ABBRIVIATIONS FOR FICTKINS
Selfhood/ID (Identity) : Selfhood or ID are characters with very strong connection to the point they cannot unsee themselves as that character. Lets say the character you connect with hits so close to home to the point the character represents alot about or your entire life itself
Heart-Type : This is a character you identify with, not as. In simple terms, you just relate to the character, yet you don't feel that much of a connection for you to identify yourself as them, this is usually confused with "Kin"
Coping Link/CL : You connect to that character just for Fun or Coping purposes
Kintype/Kin : The characters you connect with
FictionFlicker : A Character that doesn't stay connected for long, or basically, it "flicks" in and out of existance as you have little interest in the fandom your media is from, I heard this is pretty controversial by the entire otherkin community.
Kinmates/Canonmates : Basically characters who lives in the same universe/parallel as another character
Kin Shifting : Basically, like the term, you shift into a specific character that is your kintype. Basically when you have a strong feeling on one of your kintypes it overtops the rest of your kintypes, It can change your moods or way of thinking depending how one shifts. This is pretty controversial by both systems (DID/OSDD) and probably non-kins (as of what i noticed on some platforms such as tiktok) There are alot of shifting methods but I'll list down below, mostly the basic ones because there are some shifting that are complicated to explain.
SHIFTING METHODS
Mental Shifting : This shifting changes the way the shifter thinks and their way of talking depending on which media they're shifted to.
Phantom Shifting : This shifting makes you feel like you have some parts such as Ears, Tail, Paws/Claws, etc.
Dream Shifting : This shifting only occurs in dreams, basically, you shift to your character in your dreams.
Physical Shifting : As the name describes, they shift to their media in a.. very, physical matter. This is very illogical and weird, which is why the Community looks down on it alot.
Cameo Shifting : Basically you shift to a character that isn't enlisted as your kintype, This usually occurs when you randomly feel connected to a character while watching/reading their shows/books and you're quite unsure why.
Kin Memories : As the name states, its a memory coming from the very kintype/media you have, It works like a reference but it just seems too true for whatever reason. It can be a Familiar Person, a familiar place, things, smell, sound, anything. Again, Also kinda controversial by Systems because it pretty seemed like we're stealing the term/idea from them
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
"Do all fictkins get memories/shiftings? or is it necessary for a fictkin to have memories/shiftings?"
A: No! Not all fictkins get memories or being able to shift, besides, shifting or having memories isn't necessary to be a fictkin. Afterall the main point of being a fictkin is having a deep connection with a character for you to say "Hey thats so me!"
"Is it ok for Fictkins to use the word 'Source' (including other system related terms)"
A: Well... this is very controversial and quite sensitive, yet as i see, most systems don't agree by the fact we fictkins share terms with theirs, So for you to be safe, its best to use the words "Media" or "Kin" to describe yourselves!
"Are Fictkins Delusional?"
A: Absolutely not! We fictkins can still identify ourselves outside of our kintypes! while IRLs cannot, Which is why please, if you're ever gonna reality check them, Please do it in a kind and helpful way + if possible, with their permission (That unless the IRL is anti-recovery, Then i don't know what else to say other than leave them be.)
"Do all Fictkins believe in past lives?"
A: No, Each Fictkin has their own beliefs, Like me for example, i just like to think that each of my kintypes is like a reference to my life, my connections are formed when a character has the same exact scenario that once happened in my life, something that make me go "why is history repeating again" or something like that. Yet going back to the topic there are Two kinds of Beliefs: Spiritual and Psychological, They're pretty hard to explain but i hope you get the glimpse of it :')
"Can you choose to be one?"
A: No. You can't. that unless you're a KFF (Kin for Fun) or A/Looking for a Coping Link, yes you can choose your kins
"Why do some fictkins have the term "IRL" on them, are they delusional?"
A: No! Long story short, Fictkins once coined the term "IRL" until for some odd reason, People with DA started to claim it to the point we fictkins have to change the term to "ID/Self-hood". Some fictkins aren't even aware of this/nor do they realize IRL isn't the right term to use to identify themselves, so not all IRLs are delusional. Perhaps they might just be a Fictkin without them realizing :)
"Aren't Fictkins and IRLs basically the same meaning?"
A: Yes, they both connect. But no, IRLs are unaware of their existance as a human, while Fictkins do.
