Knowing you

A/N: this was a random one-shot novel I was working on, which I don't know how I even managed to get 16750 words (27 pages). It's terrible, cringy, but I hope you guys enjoy it at least :skull:

Society has always been runned by rules, laws and regulations. People listen to those who they see as “higher” and who they think have authority over others. In this world, there are “good” and “bad” people. People who have a sense of “justice” tend to be the ones who run the world. The government is usually runned by old, rich white men who think too highly and make promises to their people, which ends up as a broken promise…
Runned by laws, rules and regulations, we are suppressed from giving it our all, from showing how powerful each of us are. As government officials go on and look down on us, they have no idea what is going to happen if they keep on going on with their terrible nonsense of politics. And then, there are HIROS. HIROS are people who were genetically modified by the government about 365 years ago. It has been a while since they started doing them, as it was a huge success, many were created and since then, about 78 percent of the human population has some sort of super power.
Many of the HIROS have reproduced and that covers many of us now. But that does not stop the ‘evil doers’ from taking action, in fact, crime rates since then have risen by 64 percent. Most of the crimes are now done by HIROS, of course. As they have powers and can cause chaos in the cities. Then again, many of the HIROS do not want evil to take over, so the government opened up a new association for the ‘good citizens and HIROS’ who want to take action against ‘evil’ . InAHJ: International Association of HIROS in Justice. The ‘good’ HIROS are the ones who are above normal human police, they are like a special force when there are ‘evil’ HIROS out loose causing destruction. Ironically, they are called Heroes just like in movies, shows and comics. It’d be funny to see how these would open their eyes to this corrupt society we live in. But of course, they’re just as ignorant and as corrupt as any other person. At least, that is what I thought until I met him.

The Beginning of a Villain’s Plan

~

The sun shines through the curtains on the sunny morning of April, shining softly down at the bed in which Elix slept on. Wincing as the sun got brighter, shining down at his face, he groaned lightly and slowly sat up on his messy bed. Sleepily, he opened his eyes and stared at the room, walls were bare and a light worn-down minty green, some of the paint had started to tear down due to humidity and age. A wall was littered around with small sticky notes; full of reminders and chores that he had to do later the week. Turning to the left, was a small worn down, slightly beaten up, wooden table that Elix used as a desk. A small dusty white wardrobe sat across from him, some clothes sticking out from small corners. The room was quite small, but big enough for a small bed, a wardrobe and a desk.
Sighing, he shifted himself to the edge of the bed, sitting there for a moment and looking down at the floor. The worn down and dirty beige carpet felt rough under his feet. Looking down at his hand and arm which was wrapped in a white bandage, he frowned. Last night’s mission was rough, about three Heroes went after him after he started a fight with a gang of criminal HIROS. It was a very short fight, but then the three Heroes appeared, they fought for a bit before Elix got tired of them chasing after him. He knocked them out and set them to lean on a wall, leaving them there. Then he went home, bandaged himself and passed out.
Elix stared off into the distance, until his phone buzzed twice. Blinking, he reached out to his phone and looked at the time.
“Oh- I am late for school!” he hissed.
Jumping off from his bed, he quickly changed into his uniform and put on his shoes. Running to the entrance and opening the door, the sun blasted him brightly, but he didn’t care. He is late and he has to go. Running off to the nearest bus station, he saw the bus stopping there and then people getting off. He smiled and ran as fast as he could, getting on the bus. He reached out for his wallet, but realized that he left his wallet at home.
“Kid, hurry up and zap your card. People are waiting to leave.” the old scruffy man grumbled, glaring at Elix.
“Sorry sir, I forgot my Bus Card in my wallet which I left at home.” Elix laughed softly, apologetically.
The Bus Driver grunted, and glared more at him. “No card, no service. Now get off my bus, kid.”
The passengers started to tell him to hurry up and get off, all of them angry that their precious time was being taken away from them. Elix squeezed his hand into a fist, his anger rushing towards him. He then felt a pat on his shoulder, “The kid’s with me, don’t worry. He’s coming along with me.”
Elix looked up at the stranger, it was a boy who looked a bit older than him. His dark red hair was quite long and went down to below his shoulders and onto his back. He wore the same uniform as him. But that was not the only thing that caught his attention, rather his golden yellow eyes that seemed to glow slightly in the sun. He was very handsome and attractive. He seemed at least about a foot taller than Elix, around 6 '4. He also seemed well built, which made him more attractive. The red headed stranger patted Elix more, a warm smile on his face. The bus driver seemed to soften, yet still annoyed. Several whispers broke out from the passengers, mostly from the females.
“Oh he’s so handsome!” “Is he a model?” “So tall and handsome!” “Wait– isn’t he Haru Kollins?” “You mean that famous student from Black Crow Academy?”
Elix blinked for a few seconds, he’s from Black Crow Academy as well? He thought. He noticed that the attractive boy signaled to go sit with him. Elix nodded, amused and followed the boy to the back of the bus, sitting on a seat next to each other. Elix sat down and turned away from the red headed boy, who seemed to stare at him intensely yet quietly. Elix felt quite uneasy, knowing that the boy was watching him from the reflection of the glass window.
“So, are you going to say something?” a soft yet deep voice sounded, almost like a loud gentle whisper. The attractive boy tilted his head, a smile on his face as he looked with intensity at Elix.
“And what do you want me to say exactly? I have nothing to say.” Elix’s eyebrow twitched slightly, then turned to the strange red headed attractive boy, arms crossed and an eyebrow raised.
The red headed boy looked a bit amused, and leaned in a bit to take a good look at Elix. Elix seemed to have soft features, almost slightly feminine. His blackish-gray hair was wavy with large curls and a bit scruffy, the back of it was messily tied into a small messy bun. His eyes were a sky blue with a hint of green, long eyelashes adorned his eyes. His body looked thin and a bit fragile, but it was noticeable that he worked out quite a bit. Elix leaned back away from him, weirded out a bit and nervous about what he could do to him. The boy smiled again, and leaned away from Elix.
“Not even a small Thank You?” he smiled, leaning his head on his hand.
Elix’s eyes widened, how could he forget? He huffed and looked away a bit, mumbling something under his breath. “Thank you.” he muttered loudly enough for the other to hear him.
The other smiled more, seemingly satisfied with the answer. “It was a pleasure.” he turned and fixed himself on his seat. Elix blinked, now curious about this strange boy.
“Say, what is your name? I don’t think I have ever seen you before in my academy.”
The boy smiled, turning to Elix with more amusement. “Seems like you have caught interest in me, haven’t you?” his voice purred slightly, he smiled more. “Well, now that you have asked nicely, I will tell you. I am Haru Kollins, Elite Class A-1. I am a Junior at Black Crow Academy, it is a pleasure to meet you.” He smiled softly, “Your turn to introduce yourself.”
Elix blinked, he is in the Elite Class? Isn’t that the class who… he blinked again and snapped back to reality.
“Oh right– I am Elix Jung, Class D-8, I am also a Junior at Black Crow Academy. It is nice meeting you too.” he looked away a bit ashamed, how could an Elite even take interest in a loser like Elix?
Haru smiled more, amusedly. “You’re very interesting, you know Elix?” This caught Elix’s attention, who was confused as to why.
“What do you mean?” he furrowed his eyebrows, leaning back away from Haru once again. Haru’s eyes glowed slightly again, but something seemed off. There was a hint of intimidation and something else that Elix couldn’t pinpoint exactly, which made him uneasy. Haru’s smile never faded, and he reached out for Elix. Elix, uneasy and a bit frightened, shut his eyes tightly, waiting for something to happen. He felt a small pats on his head, and then a gentle pull.
“You’re very amusing to walk out with a chunk of lint hanging from your hair. Did you even brush it?” he chuckled, trying to hold back laughter.
Elix opened his eyes, blinking five times as he gasped. “Sh-Shut up! I didn’t have the time to brush it nor fix it this morning! I didn’t know that was there– how da–”
The bus seemed to have stopped, “Alright you two, stop bickering and get off now. You’re at your destination.” The bus driver's rough gurgling voice alerted the two, Haru then got up and started walking out the bus. Elix blinked and quickly followed behind.
Once they had gotten off, Haru turned to Elix, his smile still plastered on his face. “Well then, guess we separate here. It was nice talking to you, Elix.”
Elix blinked and nodded, “Goodbye then, Haru.”
Elix started walking away, towards his class. Looking up at the bright blue sky, he sighed. That was a strange encounter. Then from behind, a whisper was heard. “This isn’t a goodbye, rather a see you later, Elix.” Haru’s soft whispery voice rang.
Elix turned around to see him, but he was already far away from him. Haru waved at Elix without looking back, puzzling Elix greatly. Frowning, he kicked the dirt and started walking away. Haru surely has caught Elix’s interest and attention. He frowned even more, this could be bad. If Haru and him get too close, Haru might realize who Elix is in reality and that might lead to some very bad consequences. Elix tightened his fist, and gritted his teeth. This isn’t any good, Elix must try to keep Haru away from the truth as much as possible. No matter what, he has to keep Haru away from him. But it would be rude to simply avoid him without a very stable reason, and it could raise even more suspicion. Elix sighed, then looked up to see that the classroom was in front of him, already in session. He knocked on the door, waiting for the teacher to open the door. There was a bit of chatter from the teacher, then silence. The door clicked and swung wide open. The teacher, a woman around her mid-thirties, stood there: dirty blonde hair swept up in a neatly tight bun, big round circular black glasses, in a neatly fit teacher’s uniform.
“You are very very late, Mr. Jung.” she frowned heavily, her voice serious and intimidating. Her glasses gleamed in the sunlight that shone a bit through the dusty air and window blinds. Her emerald green eyes glowed with intensity and disappointment of her class being interrupted by one of her late students. Elix’s breath hitched a bit in fear, he took a step back and nodded.
“I am very sorry, Ms. Edius, I have overslept and almost missed the bus. I am sorry for interrupting your class and arriving late today.” Elix bowed his head, looking down at the ground. The class inside stared at him, small giggles, chuckles and snickers could be heard. Ms. Edius sighed, shaking her head and taking a step back.
“Come see me after class, Elix. I have to address some very important things with you.” she signaled for Elix to lift his head up, in which he did. Elix felt his stomach drop for a second, nodding in acknowledgement of the meeting after class. He went into the class, settling down at his desk which sat at the very back corner of the classroom.
Looking out the window next to him, he saw the large campus of the academy in which three other buildings were set across each other. Black Crow academy was set up with the buildings to face across each other, Building A was across Building C, and Building B to D. In the middle of the campus, sat a large lake with a small fountain with the statue of a shield decorated with crows. Ironically, many crows sat on top of that fountain statue. About a few hundred feet away from the lake, sat a food court. Many fancy, high class, expensive restaurants occupied many of the slots in the food court. But of course, there were a select few restaurants who were affordable for students with low savings. Beside the food court and at the side of a lake, was a small park with a flower garden. The gardening club usually took care of the park, and owned it too. Free for every student in the academy to visit during study halls and before and after school hours, the park tends to be the most popular place in the academy during spring and fall. It is also where many events are hosted by the school, as it also has a small stage at the center of the park. The Band students also occupy that small area, usually for practices in music. The rest of the inner campus was free, open space for anyone to walk around. Grassy fields and occasional large, shady trees scattered around the open fields. At the back of the academy, sat a few sports fields, including a gym, a very large pool, tennis court and even horseback riding mini-campus with a horse stable and all. At the opposite side of the sports campus, sat a building that looks like a five star mini-hotel. That building is a dormitory for students and teachers who live either too far away or just want to stay near or in school for any purpose. The headmaster of the school lives there as well. But despite the good spot the dormitory is in, and the convenience of having it there, it is very expensive to stay there. $1,320 per week, $189 per night. Not many students live there, but there were many who did not want to live there, rather not because of the cost, but because it is in the school campus, meaning that many of the rules and regulations the school has also apply to the dorms. And of course, students want to do whatever they want in their homes… Typical teenagers.
Elix sighed, as he watched the birds fly by. The students looked like ants from his point of view, all of them moving around and what-not. Doing student things like the students they are. Each building is only three stories high. So he wasn’t too far up from the ground if he did want to escape unnoticed through the window, despite being on the third floor of the building. Even then, Ms. Edius would catch him before he could even try. Elix shivered, recalling the memory of Ms. Edius’ request to speak to him after class. What could she want? Is he failing? Is he in trouble? Or worse, is he going to become her student slave? Elix groaned, slumping down on his desk and putting his head on the desk. A small ‘ahem’ was heard.
“Elix Jung. Are you paying attention to the lesson?” A sickly-sweet voice was heard, Elix froze and sat up straight. He really did mess up now.
“N-no ma’am, I am sorry… I dozed off into my thoughts and forgot about the lesson.” He looked down at the desk, ashamed. He was waiting for a loud scolding from Ms. Edius, waiting for her to yell at him for not paying attention. Waiting for her to call him a lazy bum, a stupid, worthless, Imbecile of a student. Or even for a smack with a ruler or a sit-out in the hallway, or even worse, a trip to detention. He waited, but nothing came. A small sigh was heard, which caused him to look up at Ms. Edius, he was confused as to why she didn’t do anything.
“Elix, you are by far one of my… No, I’ll tell you after class.” she paused for a second, then continued. “ Yeah, after class. There are only thirty four minutes left of class, hold on a little longer, okay?” she smiled softly.
Elix blinked twice, “Huh?” is all he said. He was very confused, astounded and dumbfounded. This has never happened to him, what does she mean he is one of her what? What is she trying to say? Blinking twice as Ms. Edius walked back to the front of the classroom to continue the lesson, Elix felt quite uneasy– expecting to be told off and possibly expelled from school was quite a bit too much to think of. Elix was growing anxious to the point he started bouncing his leg rapidly, causing small squeaking noises under his shoes. Ever since he transferred to Black Crow Academy, and even before that, he has always had a bad reputation. He was a fighter at many of his previous schools, always beating the group of gangs that went against him. Of course, they were all HIROS. He has always been to many HIRO-exclusive schools, all of them runned by Heros. Expelled over and over again, his frustrations grew to the point where he accidentally became a villain. And a powerful one that is– Elix still hasn’t been caught by the Heroes or police. Which is quite extraordinary for a young, small villain at this age of time. He has gone through many missions, his main goal to take down the government and open society’s eyes to the truth. But even then, he was chosen and accepted into the country’s most prestigious academy built for both HIROS and Humans. It was also the first of its kind; there are only five academies like Black Crow in the whole world. There is Blue Jay Academy, Red Cardinal Academy, Grey Sparrow Academy, and of course, Black Crow’s rival: White Dove Academy. Despite Black Crow’s rich history and economic success, White Dove’s finances and money reach the hundred-millions– almost twice as much as Black Crow’s yearly budget.
Knowing this information made Elix uneasy, why would such a top-rate prestigious school want a poor, low class student as him? He earned a scholarship and an admission to Black Crow, giving him special privileges such as free education and school materials. Every student apart from Elix has worked their way into the school, either by academic success, money, or something else. No one else knows about Elix’s admission to the school, keeping it a secret amongst his teachers and the main staff of the school. It would cause a huge scandal about a poor kid who got accepted into the world’s top rich school for some unknown reason, and Elix is already too tired of dealing with other student’s negative opinions of him. But despite their gossip and comments on him, he has a note of intimidation that causes other students to fear and respect him. Ever since he transferred to Black Crow, no one has even dared to pick a fight with him. Not yet, at least.
Elix looked away from the window and up to the clock that sat on the wall above Ms. Edius’ desk. It read five minutes past noon, meaning there is still about half an hour left of class. He then turned his eyes to look at Ms. Edius who was writing a short passage on the chalkboard.
“The way words are created are based on the root and suffix of the word. In the past, Latin and Greek were the top most-used languages for language creation. Let’s look at the word Chronological. What Latin word do you see?” She turned to the class, still holding up the chalk towards the board as she waited patiently for a student to raise their hand. After a few seconds, Elix sighed and raised his hand,
“Chrono; it means Time in Latin. The word chronological means in time order, meaning things are ordered in sequence based on the timing of how it happened.” His voice was a bit monotone, emphasizing the boredom he is going through. Amused, Ms. Edius smiled a bit and nodded. As she turned to write the word Chronological on the chalkboard, she turned back to the class.
“Yes, you are correct, Elix. The word Chronological does mean in time order. The root word Chrono is a Latin word that means time. Good job, Elix.” She smiled softly at Elix, which caused Elix to look away a bit flustered. The class was in awe, it is very rare to see Elix participate in class, and to know about what the word Chronological means and its root language is already a large surprise to them. They didn’t expect Elix to be so intelligent, he was usually the hot-tempered quiet kid in the class who always spaces out and never pays attention. Ms. Edius smiled softly, nodding and then going back into the lesson. The chatter became more lively, so did the participation in the class. Elix sighed and leaned his head down on his arms, going back to his usual boredom and quietness.
How much longer until this class ends? I am already bored of being here learning about Latin and Greek roots and suffixes. I need a break.
The bell rang as soon as he finished his thought, yawning as he stood up and stretched, he saw Ms. Edius signaling him to come over to her. He almost forgot that Ms. Edius had requested to see him after class. He nodded and walked over to her slowly, Ms. Edius sitting on her desk chair and a frown on her face. Elix got nervous– anxious even. He stopped in front of the desk, and stood there patiently waiting for a word to be said. The classroom was empty except for him and her. Ms. Edius clicked her tongue, fixing her glasses on her face.
“Mr. Jung, do you know why I requested you to stay?” she looked up at Elix, hands crossed each other as she leaned her head on them. Elix shook his head gently and anxiously,
“No ma’am, I am unsure of the reason why. May I ask why I was asked to stay?” His tone was formal and respectful, something he didn’t sound so often. He only talked to Ms. Edius in this tone, as he has respect for her despite his attitude he gives everyday. Ms. Edius smiled, nodding and removing her hands from her desk, sitting up straight.
“Elix, I know you may not be the best student in the school, and that you haven’t been paying attention fully in class. You keep dozing off and spacing out during class, you arrive late every day, and you don’t get along with your peers very well either.” her voice softened, giving a sense of worry and concern for her student. Elix nodded, acknowledging what she just said.
“And to be honest, despite all that, you are by far one of the best and greatest students I have. So I have made a request to the headmaster of the school to transfer you to the Elite class. When you submitted your midterm exams, we went over the results of your exam. As we all know, the midterm exams also result as rank-placement exams, not many have the opportunity to rank up to a higher class. And for your results, you tied up with the top student in the school in the midterm exams, making you go up the ranks to second place. It is honestly the first time in the history of Black Crow Academy for a student from D-8, the lowest rank class, to suddenly rank up to the top in a matter of days.” she paused for a moment, glancing at Elix to see his indifferent expression.
She smiled and continued on, “We are proud to say that you, Elix, are the first one in Black Crow Academy to rank up to second place from the lowest ranks in school. The headmaster has agreed to let you transfer to the Elite class, but it is up to you if you would like to transfer to that class. Make sure to think it through, you have by tomorrow noon to decide. I will be in the headmaster’s room at that time, the office will call you in by then.” She smiled softly, relaxing and settling down on her seat. Elix seemed still as a rock, his expression indifferent and never changing. Suddenly, there was a small whisper saying “what?” Elix seemed to finally snap back to reality, his face changing into one of surprise and amazement. He shot up from his seat,
“Wait wait wait– what?! I shot up the school ranks and got placed in second?! How did I manage to even do that? I am so confused with this.” Elix stared down at the ground, he didn’t think that he was that smart enough to suddenly shoot up from the lowest ranks to the highest in a short time span. To his awe and amusement, it is possible according to his test results. But despite that, he was offered a transfer to the Elite class, the top class of the school. Full of very rich and intelligent students, there are only about ten students in that class. Will he become the eleventh student there? He was starting to get lost in thought, the surprise made him very excited and anxious. But the thing is, what about this class? What will happen when everyone finds out the low-rank student suddenly shot up from the bottom to the top? That would be another scandal to deal with if it comes out to the light, and Elix does not want to deal with that. And if he transfers to the Elites, does that mean he’ll have more work and responsibilities to deal with? More heavy weights added to his crippled mind? Suddenly, his worry became a sudden realization: If he moved up the rank, enough to let him transfer to the Elite class, and he has the opportunity to finally get a better life than before, and if he works hard enough, he can take advantage of this and finally get rid of the government’s lies and show the people the cruel reality of life and the government’s horrors. This was a great opportunity to finally get his plan to move. He smiled, and looked up at Ms. Edius, who looked at him with a quiet curiosity.
“Don’t worry, you don’t have to wait until noon tomorrow, I have made my choice.” he smiled wider, his face beaming with excitement and happiness.
