Harnessing the dangerous chakra that the star provided his village has been long sought after, as only through its radiating strength has Hoshigakure been able to attempt to becoming comparable to the great five villages. Overcoming the sickness that seeped into the population was deemed impossible, and far too dangerous. Star training was halted, until scientific advancements developed further and an idea was created. A genetically modified generation that could withstand repeated usage of their village's trademark technique without suffering. Still, trying to toy with nature held tremendous risks, as only the young were able to undergo this procedure and recover, as their body would acclimate to the changes as they grew.

Nagayasu showed great affinity to the experiments and the village thought they finally would be able to tame the wild powers they've been granted, but although Nagayasu's body had great compatibility with the genetic modifications, it still rejected the chakra energy, recognizing it as a poison. His body violently tried to flush out the radioactive chakra in his nodes, mutating grotesquely as it attempted to defend itself from the decay. What was left was a mangled internal chakra network, which had fused and deformed to better manage internal chakra flow but left him with the inability to use any Ninjutsu at all. The project was a failure, but Nagayasu wasn't. Seeing the potential in his warped form, he was scouted to participate in the Moon Village Academy.

Outwardly brooding and quiet, with a perpetual serious look as he claims to be a scientific Shinobi who uses specialized tools to his advantage, but in actuality is a very energetic impish child who likes playing pranks. He was told to keep his situation under wraps, both literally and metaphorically, so it's been hard for him not to whip off his veil to scare the other kids for a quick laugh. Despite the disfigurement from his past operations, he doesn't hold any resentment or anguish over it, as he was proud to try and elevate his village's standing even if it didn't succeed. Even now he's looking for ways to bring his village to the forefront of the ninja world, whether its through finding situations to harvest highly protected bloodline abilities, or simply becoming the best ninja he can be. Surprisingly very good at hiding his overgrowth of mutated flesh, as he's practiced extensively to fight with his one normal arm and use a variety of distracting techniques for surprise attacks. The eyes that have formed on his left side are functionally blind, barely able to even see changes in light and unable to keep track of objects in motion, leaving Nagayasu with only having vision on his right.

His nickname is Naga, although no one outside his village calls him that. He wishes they would, but feels it would blow his cover as a no nonsense ninja.

Prompts

Age: 9

Height: 140 cm

Combat Synergy:

Nagayasu's natural deficiencies in any type of Ninjutsu or Genjutsu leaves him extremely specialized in Taijutsu, so it would likely be best that he'd have someone who could cover for those failings. He'd appreciate a strong Genjutsu user as he's proficient in misdirection to help set up and take advantage of any confusion the opponent will experience, and even moreso if the team member happened to have Lightning nature to play around with using his Lightning Seal and Shinobi Gauntlet.

He'd be able to work with other Taijutsu users as well since he can keep up an aggressive pace or choose to hang back to wait for an ideal time to strike. He prefers eye-catching moves that can distract the opponent and demand their full attention to let others to set up, and if others had similar flashy fighting styles he'd be able to capitalize on their conjoined strengths to go from simple shinobi smoke and mirrors to shock and awe tactics.

Those born with beneficial mutations and bloodlines would also be appreciated, for different reasons.

Hope to Learn:

Martial Arts and Biology, the only two things that give Nagayasu his strength. Of course he does also want to learn a broader array of skills, like ninja tool usage, especially if they are scientific ninja tools, but he acknowledges that if he wants to earn any strength of his own, it'll have to be through the advantages he has to compensate for what he doesn't. Still, learning about Genjutsu and Ninjutsu would be of interest to him as even though he can't perform them, knowing how it works might help to better defend against them.

First Day:

He'd arrive attempting to be fashionably late but missed the mark by blowing past the time, and pivots to being a brooding mysterious new late entry. When he heard his roommate wouldn't be coming for awhile, he was secretly ecstatic as he could workshop his persona more before they came.

Teacher Questions:
What was the first thing your character does when they make it to the village?

Scoping out major clans that have settled into the Moon Village and sizing up the other students. Political power is more on his mind over their kekkai genkai, as it outside of his specialties but even more vital to his village. He won't act on anything for awhile, but knowing whose family has the most pull will be useful down the line.

What does your character do in their downtime?

Writing letters back to his village. Nagayasu's right side is what he uses most commonly in fights, but it was his left that was his original dominant hand. He had to relearn how to hold writing instruments as they are usually far too small to fit between his fingers, so he's cycled between both hands to practice. The result is an extremely scratchy scrawl which can be mistaken as coded messages, and might as well be as only those who grew up with him post operation back home could decipher it.

What vibe does your character give off as a first impression?

A serious and mysterious individual with an oddly favored side. The first thing you'd notice is his asymmetrical outfit, which coupled with his stance that usually faces his cloaked side away from others, makes his presence a bit odd. The second thing you'd notice is that he tends to stick to his own, not physically distant but emotionally, as he drifts through crowds but doesn't linger. Any responses from him are short and to the point to minimize communication which makes him come off as cold.

What is your character’s attitude within a classroom setting?

Attentive and focused, not only on the lesson but those around him. He wouldn't try to make it obvious but it's he's not exactly a master in Espionage, as those with great knowledge over chakra techniques takes his interest. Attempts to take notes on the lesson with his right hand, and secretly write down notes on the class with his left, with middling success on legibility.

What is Chakra?

"A power which was brought from the stars and now flows through us."

Do you know of the 12 basic Hand Seals?

"...there's 12 hand seals? That must mean you have access to 12 techniques! Wait, even more?!"

What is a Nindō?

"Is that a special rank you guys have?"

What does it mean to be a Shinobi?

"They're the ones responsible for making the village's future a reality."

You're still too green to have one yet, but what kind of special technique or super attack do you dream of being able to pull off in the future? When you imagine yourself as the big strong elite Jonin facing off against a horde of enemies or an equal foe, what do you pull out to put an end do the battle?

[Falling Star Fist]
When Nagayasu's Natural Demon develops further with age and he undergoes great stress, he'll be able to pull in greater amounts of nature energy that causes his chakra and emotions to flare, causing both to blaze as passion and power surge out of his body. The previously innate vents on his mutated arm flare open as jets of nature energy shoot out, giving him increased strength and speed as he can use it to propel himself like a rocket.

How does your dorm room look after you're done unpacking? Barring some rich kids, I can't imagine you've been able to bring everything you wanted with you on your long journey to Moon, so what are some stand out decorations? How do you think your room will look by the time you graduate and you've had time to personalize it with stuff from the village? How well do you split your space with your roommate(s)? Just a 50/50 or do you share some things with each other?

Nagayasu would only have a small sack of basics. Change of clothes, toothbrush, a blanket. Said blanket would be refashioned into a curtain to block direct view to his bed, as he'd want to prevent anyone seeing his mutated arm while he slept and he isn't fond of the idea of sleeping in a cloak and pauldron.

Now that roommates are pretty much solidified, how do you act with them upon meeting each other? You're possibly stuck together for years, so do you try to be more accommodating than normal with them? Treat them with suspicion until you've clocked their personality? Ignore them completely?

Nagayasu would be surprised at Motomu's appearance. Not really because he looks strange, more that Motomu carries himself with a sort of calm confidence and doesn't seem to care what others thought of him. Initially Nagayasu would stick to limited contact staying mostly on his side of the room behind his curtain, but Motomu would probably make Nagayasu lower his guard pretty quickly, especially if he gets to see Motomu's real side, as Nagayasu sees himself in them.

If you do want to get closer to your roommate, what icebreakers do you try? If you dislike your roommate, what about living with them annoys your character?

Nagayasu wouldn't initiate any type of conversations that don't directly concern their shared room or school. He wouldn't mind much from Motomu with maybe the exception of the floating orbs if they happen to cross into his space, but for the most part it's Nagayasu who will try to reduce his own presence in their shared living quarters.

What would your character be like to live with? Are they tidy and organized or messy and sporadic? Are they quiet or would they receive noise complaints? How do you divvy up chores? Does your character cook or only get takeout? Do you try and get to know your neighbors or does your character leave them alone?

Nagayasu keeps his side tidy, mostly because there is little he has to make a mess. He'd be of few words, focusing on getting to class each day and doing chores without complaint. He doesn't have great cooking skills so he'd mostly try getting takeout or visiting the restaurants around the Moon, as they have many foods he never has tried before. He wouldn't bother his neighbors since he would barely know who they are and he'd want to keep his interactions professional and minimal.

You were walking through the village alone, minding your own business. You cut through a side path and bam, you're being held up at knife point! He's just a petty thief, he has no chance at beating you. He's decided to rob you because you're young and dress weird. Unless you're a teacher, then he just thinks you look like an easy mark for whatever reason. Question is, how do you deal with this generic mob? And what do you do about him after you've handled him?

He'd attempt to do his due diligence and give a shout out that he's being mugged, and if no authorities come before he gets rushed, he'll try to briefly blind the attacker with his cloak before a swift gut punch with his mutated arm to incapacitate him, before quickly leaving the scene. He doesn't want to get under scrutiny for attacking a civilian of the Moon Village as a foreigner even if they were trying to rob or harm him, as it's a liability to even prove if it was self defense or not.

Is this the start of a new friendship or a bitter rivalry? Or both?

Once the ice is broken I think Nagayasu would quickly become fast friends with Motomu and show an entirely different side of himself. He'd become much warmer and teasing, letting Motomu in on different pranks he plans for, such as leaving an imprint of the eyeball on his shoulder on a window to scare the other students, or swapping ninja tools between people. Nagayasu would respect Motomu's affinity with all natures and his ability to hold his own in Taijutsu, and if he ever did learn of their extraterrestrial lineage he'd be quick to accept it, as the concept of something from space integrating with the planet is pretty normal for him.

I want to know what everyone else's other outfits are too. Nobody goes to school in the same thing every day unless you're a fucking weirdo or an... anime character

He has one other outfit for the summer with shorter sleeves and shorts, but his cloak and veil are pretty much standards for anything he wears. He has pretty simple tastes and doesn't exactly have much in the way of obtaining apparel that would suit him and cover up his left arm.
