Fursuit Washing Instructions

  • HEAD, FEETPAWS
    (FOAM AND FABRIC)
First thing, pop out the eyes and set them aside. (You may want to take a picture beforehand so you can realign them properly afterwards. Alternatively, you could also place a couple pins next to both ends of the eyeliner for easy reference.) If you have any other magnetic or removable parts (ie eyelids, piercings, tongues, etc), you can remove those as well and wash them separately.
If your eyes are not removable, just be sure to cover the mesh as best you can. I usually fold up a paper towel then tape around it with painters tape. The less water on the paint, the better (but don’t worry, they won’t melt. Just slowly fade over time with contact. The goal is to avoid this)
If you have one of those carpet cleaning machines (I use a Little Green Machine, Pet +) go ahead and use that with some Woolite delicates detergent (or suit detergent, whichever!). You can get a similar result by just wiping them down with a soapy rag and rinsing it off after if you’re like me and scared of the bathtub method. If you do want to do the bathtub method however, just try and be gentle. Don’t dunk their ass like you’re trying to drown them LOL. Just put enough water to cover the bottom of the tub, add some detergent, and lightly splash them down. No need to scrub unless it has visible stains. For drying, make sure there’s significant airflow and that it’s drying as fast as possible in order to avoid that nasty mildew smell. Brush it as he dries for best result
All of my heads have some amount of dry-brushing, however small; usually in the corner of the mouth sharpening up corners. If you happen to find a spot with some, don’t worry! It’s waterproof fabric paint and is fine to wash. Just be gentle, as it may eventually fade
In the case of serious stains, Folex carpet cleaner is your best friend. Apply it dirrectly to the stain, dabbing up with a cloth as you go. No need to soak the shit out of it. just continue to spray a little, dab up, and repeat until the stain is gone. This works wonders if you have an older suit from me in which I used colored marker on light fur (I am so sorry).
At the end of the day, everyone has their own favorite method of washing their suit. These are just my recommendations. Generally speaking, any method (done gently) will do the job with great success!
  • PAWS, ARM SLEEVES, LEG SLEEVES
    (UNSTUFFED PARTS)
These are easy! Simply turn them inside out and pop them in the washing machine. I like to put mine in a garment bag or pillow case for extra safety. Usual fursuit washing rules apply- absolutely NO heat! Flip right side out once done and brush intermittently as they dry. I tend to clip mine onto a pants hanger and hang them under a running ceiling fan. They dry super fast!
  • TAILS, WINGS, NECK RINGS
    (STUFFED PARTS)
Essentially the same as the paws, you just can’t turn this one inside out. I would definitely recommend putting this one in some sort of bag to protect the fur fibers from catching in the machine. Since this is most likely stuffed, I recommend putting it through a dry spin cycle after washing to get most of the water out. You can do this with all my machine washable parts to speed up drying!
