Charlotte Emory Rivers (born May 27, 1993) is an American emergency medicine physician. She is currently a neurocritical care fellow at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

Early life and education Charlotte Emory Rivers was born on May 27, 1993 in Ithaca, New York to Victoria (née Whitlock), a public health nurse, and Evan Rivers, an English teacher. Her father is of German descent while her mother is of Polish ancestry. She has an older sister, Amelia, and a younger brother, Jasper. Rivers was raised irreligious, though her parents are Episcopalians.
She graduated from Ithaca High School in 2011. After high school, Rivers attended Carnegie Mellon University, recieving a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience, with a minor in Spanish, from the university in 2015. Charlotte then went on to attend medical school at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, earning both a Master of Science in global health and a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2020.
Career
While a medical student, Rivers was a global health researcher at UC San Diego, which she was awarded her Master’s degree for.
Charlotte matched to an emergency medicine residency at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center in March 2020, completing it in July 2024. After that, she began a fellowship in neurocritical care, which will conclude in 2026. Rivers often rotates between day and night shift at the hospital, but has said in the past that she "heavily" prefers the night shift.
Personal life
Rivers currently lives in the Manchester neighborhood of Pittsburgh with fellow PTMC emergency physician Dr. John Shen, and has since 2023.
She previously lived in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego for five years, and in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh for seven non-consecutive years; from 2011 to 2015, and from 2020 to 2023. She has one cat named Bernie.
She has been open about her diagnoses of autism, obsessive-compulsive disorder, moderate myopia, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. She's also left-handed and has complete heterochromia iridum. Charlotte’s hobbies include amateur astronomy, drawing, recreational diving, and playing piano, while her special interest is prion diseases.
