Sterling's Purpose Episodes 1-7 Redux
[BGM 1] https://youtu.be/-stDtuZ7t1Q
I wasn't always the toughest person around. In fact, I was the embodiment of meekness and timidity, a person lost in the depths of their own insecurities. I was what society deemed as a stereotypical NEET, a young man without ambition or direction, living a solitary existence within the confines of my own room. Days merged into one another, blending into a monotonous haze of online forums and virtual escapades. But life has a way of surprising us, jolting us out of our comfort zones. One fateful day, as I returned home from another uninspiring high school lecture, the weight of my peers' mocking words clinging to my consciousness, my world shifted abruptly. The door creaked open, revealing a scene that would forever be etched into the recesses of my mind. I stumbled upon a nightmarish tableau of chaos and despair. There, in the dimly lit kitchen, my drunkard of a father loomed over my younger sister and mother, both lying motionless on the floor. The metallic scent of blood mingled with the suffocating air, as crimson pools painted a horrifying display of violence and pain.
As a backdrop to this, I must shed light on the trauma my father endured over the past decade. A relentless series of heartaches had stripped him of everything he held dear, leaving behind a landscape of desolation. His parents, once pillars of strength and wisdom, left his life at an early age, something he could not really recover from after a disaster of a childhood and adolescence. The loss of his job as a medical surgeon after a workplace conspiracy gave him a blow to his pride and sense of purpose, further eroding his spirit. And to compound the anguish, half of his siblings had also slipped away due to a genetic illness that has plagued his bloodline for generations, like fading stars in a darkened sky. But he thought he found love and compassion with my mother and two children. He was happy and cheerful. A father who would give purpose to everyone and everything. It was a perfect little family.
Amidst this relentless storm of his life, our family clung to a thread of hope, teetering on the precipice of financial ruin. The specter of losing our cherished home loomed menacingly, casting a shadow of uncertainty over our future. A new administration came into power in the country we lived in bringing about economic despair and more. Thus our home was under threat of being taken away due to the collecting bills and taxes being put not only on us, but the country as a whole. Through it all, my mother stood as a beacon of unwavering support, her resilience and unconditional love guiding us through the darkest of nights. She was known in our community as an angel, her compassion and grace shining like a halo. It was a mystery to me how my father had managed to secure such a treasure in his life.
However, the weight of these tribulations had chipped away at my father's sanity, slowly eroding his grasp on reality. He had reached a breaking point, a threshold where the pain of his perceived losses had twisted his mind into a grotesque parody of the man I once knew. The specifics of what triggered this final descent into madness remained elusive to me, as my father guarded his secrets with a haunting silence. But it probably started at the point where his final sibling passed away leaving him with nothing to his family’s name aside from us.
Over the course of the past half year, the transformation of my father had been profound and unsettling. A once loving and gentle soul had morphed into an entity that was the antithesis of everything he once stood for. The change was stark, his demeanor becoming sharply twisted, with every interaction laced with a palpable tension and an air of impending doom. It was as if a malevolent force had possessed him, driving him to acts of unspeakable cruelty and violence.
And now, standing before me, was the culmination of his dark metamorphosis. The scene that unfolded was grotesque, the aftermath of his final transformation and decision. It was a chilling testament to the depths of his torment, etching an indelible mark upon my consciousness. My heart shattered into a million fragments as I confronted the devastating reality that the man who had once been my father was now an embodiment of despair, chaos, and irreparable loss.
I stood frozen in the doorway, the weight of my backpack slipping from my shoulder and crashing onto the floor, shattering the heavy silence that hung in the air. The sound reverberated through the room, an unwelcome intrusion upon the eerie stillness. It startled my father, who turned his head slowly, his gaze falling upon me with an unsettling calmness.
"How was school today, Son?" His voice, laced with an icy detachment, pierced through the air, as if oblivious to the irreversible act he had committed.
His words hung in the space between us, a fragile facade of normalcy that threatened to crumble at any moment. How could he ask such a question? How could he pretend that everything was alright, as if the scene of horror I had just stumbled upon could be brushed aside? Words failed me. I stood there, speechless, my mind a whirlwind of confusion and disbelief. I struggled to process the unfathomable reality before me, as if my brain were desperately attempting to shield itself from the monstrous truth. The world around me blurred, the echoes of his voice mingling with the cacophony of my own racing thoughts.
My ears filled with a deafening ringing, drowning out his continued words. The intensity of the sound matched the chaos that raged within me. Why was the ringing so loud? It seemed to echo the disarray of my emotions, amplifying the dissonance that reverberated through every fiber of my being. And yet, amidst the turmoil, I couldn't escape the piercing gaze of my father, his eyes filled with a mixture of anger and accusation. Why was he mad at me? What had I done to incur his wrath? The weight of his anger bore down upon me, exacerbating the sense of helplessness that already consumed me. I wanted him to see, to truly see what lay before him, to acknowledge the unfathomable pain and devastation that his actions had caused.
But his gaze remained fixed upon me, his attention misdirected, and his perception distorted. In that moment, it became painfully clear that my presence had become an inconvenient reminder of the monstrous transformation he had undergone. My existence, once a source of love and warmth, now seemed to incite his ire and fuel his rage.
I began to move forward, my steps slow and methodical, as if in a trance-like state. Each inch I covered in the kitchen brought forth a flood of memories, fragments of a past that seemed like a distant dream. I absorbed the surroundings, allowing the familiar sights and objects to etch themselves into my mind, a bittersweet symphony of nostalgia. One of which was an ode to our best vacation ever.
Images from long ago started to seep into my consciousness, like flickering frames of a forgotten film reel. I remembered that one summer at the beach, when laughter echoed in the salty air and happiness danced on the waves. My sister and I would spend hours combing the shore, collecting seashells of various shapes and sizes. The warmth of the sun painted our skin, and our hearts were lit with the joy of youth.
In that distant memory, I recalled a peculiar find, a clam washed ashore, its shell bearing a crack that almost formed a smiley face. It had amused us all, a whimsical anomaly in the vastness of the ocean. My sister, innocent and tender-hearted, held it from the opposite end, her young eyes filling with tears. To her, the crack resembled a frown, and she couldn't bear the thought of a sad clam. We chuckled at her earnestness, the simplicity of her emotions bringing warmth to our hearts.
Those good times, once a source of unbridled happiness, now mingled with a tinge of melancholy. They made me happy, or at least they used to. The weight of the present reality threatened to overshadow those fleeting moments of bliss, casting a shadow over the joy that once resided within me. It was in this fragile state of reminiscence that a laugh escaped my lips, an almost involuntary reaction to the surge of emotions.
I failed to realize that my laughter permeated the air, filling the space around me. The sound, unrestrained and raw, escaped my control, carrying with it a mix of pain, longing, and a desperate attempt to find solace. In that moment, I no longer cared whether my father could hear my laughter or not. The walls that had once shielded my vulnerability had crumbled, leaving me exposed and raw.
The desire to retreat into the recesses of my mind grew stronger, like an instinctual need to find shelter from the storm raging around me. I longed for the solace that resided within the confines of my own thoughts, a temporary respite from the chaos that enveloped my reality. If only I could crawl inside my head, seeking refuge in the fragments of memories and the sanctuary of my own inner world.
My father's head tilted sideways, his expression contorting as if he had been insulted by an offensive phrase or word. With an air of authority, he closed the distance between us, his steps deliberate and purposeful, resembling the leader of a gang commanding his followers. I met his gaze, my eyes locking with his, and a wave of intimidation washed over me, amplifying his already imposing stature. In that moment, the few inches that separated us felt like an insurmountable chasm.
"Sterling, my boy, when I ask you a question, you answer them. You happen to find me funny? Something so humorous that you ignore your father?"
His voice dripped with anger and disappointment, his words like shards of glass aimed at my heart. It was as if my laughter had cut through the fragile fabric of our relationship, exposing the raw wounds that lay beneath. He accused me of disrespect, his words punctuated by a spittle that landed on my face, a tangible representation of his disdain. His speech became slurred, the remnants of his drunken state clinging to his words. I struggled to find my voice, to form a coherent response amidst the overwhelming emotions that engulfed me. The taste of humiliation mingled with the bitterness of my father's words. Hearing my first name spoken in this scenario only intensified the discomfort, as if it carried an added layer of displeasure, a reminder of the shattered bond between us.
"Just thinking about the ocean... You know Mom and my sister loved the ocean, right?"
I managed to croak out, my voice strained and choked with unshed tears. It was a feeble attempt to redirect the conversation, to cling to a semblance of warmth and shared memories amidst the coldness that enveloped us.
For a moment, a flicker of recognition passed through his eyes, a glimmer of the man he once was. The mention of my mother seemed to pierce through the haze of anger, stirring a faint ember of affection. But it was fleeting, quickly overshadowed by the weight of his torment and the grip of his demons. The silence hung heavy in the room, the words left unspoken, pregnant with unaddressed pain and unfulfilled longing.
“That’s not a funny joke, Sterling. Quite the contrary!” For the first time ever in my life at that moment, my father struck me. His massive fist, clenched tightly, collided with the side of my face, a force that sent me reeling backward.
The world spun around me as I crumpled to the ground, my head bouncing off the unforgiving tiles on the entrance. The piercing ring in my ears returned, drowning out all other sounds, as my heart raced in my chest. Blood trickled from my nose, mingling with the pain that radiated from the impact. Stunned and disoriented, I struggled to regain my bearings, gasping for air, and fighting against the rising tide of panic. The weight of his aggression bore down on me, each passing second stretching the boundaries of my endurance.
"Get up. Get up, Sterling." he stated bluntly, his words laced with a twisted sense of authority.
The fog of alcohol clouded his judgment, heightening the brutality of his actions. The consequences of my laughter had escalated beyond comprehension. He seized me by the collar of my sweater, his grip tight and suffocating. As the fabric constricted around my throat, it became a physical manifestation of his dominance, squeezing the life out of me both metaphorically and literally.
“Your mother’s favorite thing was the ocean, Sterling. You do not get the privilege to use that against me, you brat.”
I struggled to draw breath, my lungs desperate for oxygen, but my attempts only resulted in searing pain. Each gasp was met with resistance, as if the very act of breathing was a transgression deserving punishment. Helplessness washed over me, my limbs stretched to a straining degree as he then slumped onto the ground and began to drag me across the floor, my body a ragdoll in his intoxicated grip.
“S-stop. Why. What did...they do to you??” I shout this with half a voice, my body getting soaked by the crimson pool created from my family.
We arrived at the edge of the kitchen. The stark metal and the array of kitchen supplies took on a sinister air, their innocent presence now ominous and foreboding. In that moment, the kitchen became a symbol of confinement and impending danger, its familiar surroundings transformed into a battleground for our fractured relationship.
"You… you and your mother, you’re the same. Don’t know… don’t know what I did to deserve an angel like her. But you? You’re something else. Something… something wrong. The start of it all, the reason everything turned to rot. She used to see you as a blessing, yeah… a gift from above. But not anymore. No, no, no—not anymore. She doesn’t look at me the same, not after everything I’ve done, everything I’ve been through. I can tell. Oh, I can tell. It’s you, Sterling. It’s you. You’re the reason she—she looks at me like that. The reason I can’t sleep, can’t breathe right, can’t—can’t go back to the way things were. You... you’re the problem. You deserve to see the ocean again, yeah. Yeah, you do. But not from me. No… not from me. All I can do is bring you back to her, give you back to her. Because you? You ain’t no blessing. No, you—you’re a demon. You plagued my life. Took her from me. Took everything from me. And this? This is for my freedom."
In that chilling moment, devoid of mercy or reason, he forcefully thrusts my already battered head into the murky depths of the sink, where dirty dishwater engulfs my senses. The impact is jarring, a brutal collision of my weakened state with the unyielding steel. My neck strains under the pressure, my Adam's apple crushed under the weight of his pressure, cutting off my air supply. Desperation claws at my throat as I attempt to scream, but my vocal cords betray me, muffled by the suffocating grip that holds me captive. The water swirls around me, an unforgiving prison that drowns out my cries for help. My body thrashes in futile defiance, limbs flailing in the chaotic dance of survival, but his strength eclipses my feeble attempts to escape. The deafening ring in my ears, once a haunting accompaniment to my torment, now amplifies to an unbearable crescendo. It drowns out the present, blurring the boundaries between reality and the distant echoes of a happier time. Images of the beach, the sun-kissed days of innocence, replay in my mind, a desperate yearning for a return to the warmth and joy that once filled my family's existence.

I long to see my mother's radiant smile once more, to witness my father, my protector, wear a genuine expression of happiness. Yet, a shroud of resentment veils his countenance, his anger and disappointment etched deeply within his features. I struggle to comprehend the depth of his animosity, but a painful understanding seeps through the cracks of my shattered self-worth.
In that moment, I am confronted with an inescapable truth—I am nothing more than a pitiful, insignificant pest in his eyes. A demon who stole his wife, my mother from him...The ringing in my ears intensifies, a disorienting symphony of despair. My screams fade into silence, swallowed by the suffocating embrace of the water. Vision blurs, the world around me a hazy mirage, as darkness threatens to claim my consciousness, a merciful escape from the unbearable pain that has consumed my existence.
Engulfed in an expansive aurora-like light, I am cast into a state of ethereal detachment. The boundaries of my physical form blur, and a chilling question lingers in the depths of my consciousness—am I dead? The world around me is like an aurora show... The persistent ringing that has plagued my existence persists, unabated and all-consuming. It reverberates within me, a haunting reminder of the aftermath of the unspeakable events that unfolded. This is the afterlife, huh? So there was a Jesus? A God? Does that actually make me a demon? Some insignificant worm who ruined everyone around me? I take the time in this new world to ask myself some questions...Do I think blaming something I did on someone else is sometimes necessary? Good news and bad news... Which one do I want to hear first? Have I ever looked at your reflection in a mirror and thought, "What a cool person"?
Suddenly, amidst the deafening symphony of the ringing, faint voices emerge like fragmented echoes from a distant realm. They collide with the disorienting cacophony, disarrayed and indistinguishable. I strain to comprehend their meaning, their words eluding my grasp. Desperation grips me as confusion and frustration intertwine, confounding my senses.
The weight of my existence bears down upon me, rendering my body inert and unresponsive. I feel trapped within myself, unable to open my eyes, to move, to draw the breath that my very survival depends upon. Panic sets in, its icy grip constricting around my chest, as the primal need for air intensifies. I’m drowning again...I can’t breathe... With a flicker of hope, I exert what feeble strength remains within me, pushing against an unknown barrier, my hands, or some semblance of them searching for purchase.
A sharp snap pierces the air, and suddenly, blinding sunlight floods my consciousness. The overwhelming brightness engulfs me, temporarily obscuring the disarray of my senses. A breeze wafts through the air like that of the ocean.
Through the haze, I discern a peculiar sight—a creature resembling a raccoon, standing on its tail with an air of joyous curiosity, swaying with an innocence I cannot yet comprehend.
[BGM 3] https://youtu.be/_cys21Mq-Os
"They're alive!" I manage to discern, though the words bear an otherworldly quality. The raccoon-like creature's exclamation resonates in my hazy awareness, its genuine delight at my existence intermingling with the remnants of my fading consciousness. They speak...my language...
"Oh my Arceus! We need to get them help!" Another voice joins the chorus, its tone tinged with worry and compassion. A small pink creature, cradling what appears to be a fake egg in a pouch, paces anxiously, unaware that its presence remains shrouded in the veil of my unrecognition.
In this strange convergence of unfamiliar beings, a glimmer of hope emerges—a beacon of light amidst the darkness that has consumed me. Where am I exactly...
I stare at the two new faces...creatures really...having a banter-like conversation. Their animated gestures betray a certain urgency in their conversation, while their stature appears taller than expected, lending an air of unfamiliarity to their presence. A wave of disorientation washes over me, prompting a dazed contemplation of my surroundings.
My gaze sweeps across the rugged expanse of the beach shore, where weathered rocks jut out from the sand like the hunched backs of ancient guardians. The stones, moss-covered and adorned with delicate tendrils of green, exude an air of timeless wisdom. As I reach out to touch them, I realize I cannot touch anything. I have no arms or hands, my vision is even cut off from above from what looks like the innards of a shell. I grow concerned about where I am or more so...what I am now. I look to the sky...
Above, the sky unfolds like a painter's canvas, awash with hues of soft orange and pink. The sun, seemingly on the verge of rising, casts its radiant glow upon the dimly colored waters, creating a mirrored reflection that shimmers and dances with the ebb and flow of the tides. It is a surreal spectacle, as if the very essence of tranquility and serenity has materialized before my eyes.
I shook the wonders from my eyes. Questions crowd my mind as I attempt to piece together the fragmented memories that precede this bewildering moment. How did I find myself in this unknown place? I succumbed to my Father’s will and wandered a plane as if I had died...
Yet, the urgency of the present demands my attention, pulling me away from the depths of introspection. The voices of the two beings, now distinct and vivid, penetrate my thoughts, prompting me to refocus on their conversation. The pink creature, its voice carrying a nervous tremor, pleads with an earnestness that resonates deeply within me.
“Sentret, we need to take them to our village doctor. Look at them, their shell is cracked, and they seem on the verge of fading away,” it implores, an unmistakable concern tinged with a touch of desperation.
Perplexity gnaws at my thoughts as I struggle to comprehend their words. Shell? Cracked? A sense of incredulity washes over me as I instinctively look down at my own form, expecting to find the familiar contours of a human body. Instead, I am met with confusion, for the notion of a cracked shell feels alien and incongruous to my perception of self. I attempt to take my first steps, yearning to regain a semblance of control over my own body. However, to my dismay, my limbs(?) remain unresponsive, as if disconnected from my intentions. Panic rises within me, mingling with the frustration of my immobilized state. Suddenly, without warning, my body jolts into the air, a startled gasp escaping me as I land unceremoniously on the ground. Did I just hop?
“Happiny, I know but—,” Sentret, now identified by its name, reacts swiftly to my erratic movements.
With a sense of urgency, it hops on its tail and approaches me, its presence a source of both concern and determination. I feel a touch on what I presume to be my head, yet I am unable to discern any sensation, leaving me disoriented and detached from my own physicality.
“Be careful, Sentret! Don't cause them more harm!” Happiny interjects, their voice tinged with worry and vulnerability, their demeanor mirroring my own fragile state of mind.
Exasperation laces Sentret's response as they dismiss Happiny's apprehension.
“I'm not an idiot, Happiny,” they retorted, their frustration thinly veiled. Turning their attention back to me, Sentret locks eyes with mine, prompting a surge of unease within me.”You are ok, right?”
In this surreal realm that feels suspended between heaven and hell, I find my voice, albeit trembling and uncertain.
“I... I’m, okay?” The words escape me in the form of a question, revealing my own lack of conviction and understanding.
Silence hangs heavily in the air, the weight of my uncertainty mingling with the perplexity that shrouds this enigmatic encounter. Sentret and Happiny exchange a brief glance, their expressions conveying a shared sense of intrigue mixed with cautious concern. Sentret's concern deepens, their voice heavy with worry as they press for answers.
“You don't sound okay. Can you tell me how you washed ashore? And how did you crack your shell?” Their urgency is palpable, reflecting the gravity of my situation. I gather my thoughts, attempting to form a coherent response.
“I didn't wash ashore anywhere. I...” I begin, but an overwhelming wave of fear washes over me, its intensity causing my words to falter and retreat. The weight of the unspoken ordeal I had experienced earlier bears down on me, rendering me hesitant to recount the details. Sensing my distress, both Sentret and Happiny draw closer, their presence offering solace amidst my turmoil.
“It'll be alright, Whatever happened to you down in the ocean won’t happen again!” Happiny reassures me with newfound determination, their once meek voice revealing a masculine strength that resonates within me. The sudden transformation in their tone and resolve is something I yearn to emulate—a shift from vulnerability to resilience that feels far beyond my own reach.
As I stare into the reflection of the fake egg carried by Happiny, my eyes widen in disbelief. The face that stares back at me is not my own. It is the face of a Clamperl, a Pokémon species that I had only known from stories and video games. The realization hits me like a crashing wave, and my mind swirls with a whirlwind of confusion and disbelief.
“I... I'm a Clamperl?” I stammer, my voice trembling with a mixture of astonishment and apprehension. The weight of this revelation presses down on me, my thoughts racing to make sense of this impossible transformation. How did I become a Pokémon? Why am I here in this world of talking Pokémon? The questions flood my mind, demanding answers that seem just out of reach.

Sentret and Happiny, both taken aback by my sudden outburst, exchange uncertain glances. My newfound awareness has sparked their curiosity as well. But amid the uncertainty, a newfound determination wells up within me.
“Where... Where are we?” I inquire, my voice now laced with an attempted resolute tone. I have a desire to uncover the truth behind my transformation, to navigate this unfamiliar world of Pokémon.
Sentret, her now feminine voice clear and steady, responds, “Umm...” She reaches into a small bag from her back revealing a heavily detailed and scribbled on map. It looks very old and more-so what I would see from old explorer’s of the 1500’s than anything else...
“We're technically here at the Cape of Wonders on the Mist Continent.” She points with her stubby hand holding the map with her tail.”
“Close by is a makeshift village made by a group of exploration teams.” She says with absolute certainty. She seems like the type of pokemon that knows what she’s doing...
As the weight of my new reality settles upon me, I feel somewhat safe right now. I have yet to shake off the feelings of what has happened to me beforehand but... The realization that Sentret and Happiny, the very beings who guided me here, are also Pokémon, strengthens my feelings of security.
“You mentioned a doctor, right?” I inquired, my voice tinged with a mix of hope and trepidation. The mention of cracks in my shell gnaws at my thoughts. How did I sustain such damage? Could it be a lingering scar from the encounter with my father somehow lasting to this new form of mine?
Sentret's response is swift and reassuring. “Yeah! It'll be about a half-hour hike from here to get to the village doctor. Don't worry, we'll make sure you're taken care of,” she assures me, her eyes filled with genuine concern. I can sense her curiosity, as she wonders how I will fare on this journey, given the traumatic condition I was in just moments ago. Summoning my determination to not give any hint of my lasting negative thoughts, I reply,
“I-I should be fine!” My voice is verbally filled with uncertainty, however.
“Hey, It’s fine to not be confident, it must have been a terrible experience in the ocean, I wouldn’t know since I can’t swim.” Happiny states staring at me like a therapist hoping to see some change in their client after just a single hopeful session. Sentret glares over to Happiny and turns around, her tail smacking him upside the head rolling her like an egg through the sand landing next to me.
“That was uncalled for, you meanie!” Happiny shouts as I just watch from the sidelines not really getting their dynamic yet...
“Let’s just go Happiny, you too, friend!” Sentret smiles towards me as Happiny rushes forward past Sentret, annoying her further.
Despite my newfound resolve, a lingering foreboding thought persists in my mind. Am I truly alive? Or have I crossed some unknown threshold, trapped in a state between life and death afterall?
A few minutes trickle by as I continue to navigate the intricacies of my newly acquired Clamperl body. Without limbs to propel me forward, I resort to shuffling across the ground, my movements awkward and unsteady. With each scrape and scrape against the rough terrain, I can't help but worry about the toll it might take on my fragile shell. As an aquatic-based Pokémon, I find myself questioning If I am now able to breathe air even though I really shouldn’t. Is it merely a peculiarity of this unfamiliar universe, where logic and rationale bend to the extraordinary? Perhaps, for now, I must accept that the rules governing this world are not bound by the confines of my previous life.
Our journey takes us through a weathered hillside forest, where towering trees with tropical foliage stand sparsely, yet their canopy casts an enchanting aura. From my vantage point near the ground, the landscape resembles a miniature jungle, teeming with life and mysterious whispers carried by the gentle breeze. The path we tread upon has been well-worn over time, as the dirt road blends seamlessly with the surrounding grass, creating an illusion of a paved thoroughfare.
As we continue our trek through the forest, a desire to break the silence tugs at me. Curiosity compels me to ask about them and why they were at the Cape of Wonders. I really am not the type of person to take things for granted, I’ve never been one for friendships, nor have I had the experience of having a long-lasting one...so why do I suddenly care about it now?
“So, why were you two at the Cape of Wonders anyways?” I pose the question, my voice carrying a hint of intrigue and apprehension of even speaking.
Happiny, displaying a newfound energy, prances about, his initial timidity giving way to an earnest desire to be of assistance. It becomes apparent that when adversity befalls someone, he eagerly rises to the occasion, offering his support and unwavering dedication to ensuring the well-being of others. Sentret, on the other hand, exudes a sense of maturity and natural composure, embodying the role of an older sister figure to Happiny. While I cannot assume too much in this moment, Sentret's poised demeanor hints at her potential as a leader, someone reliable and steady in times of uncertainty.
“Well, you see,” Sentret begins, her voice carrying a soothing cadence that matches her composed demeanor,
“Happiny and I are part of an Exploration Team. We journey across the Mist Continent, seeking to uncover its secrets and mysteries on behalf of our village’s mission. The Cape of Wonders is one of the places we recently set out to investigate. Legends spoke of a rare phenomenon occurring there, and we wanted to witness it ourselves.”
“Rare...phenomenon?” I am curious.
Happiny chimes in, his timidness seemingly replaced by a newfound excitement.
“Yes, yes! It was supposed to be a good opportunity to add something special to our exploration log! We didn't expect to find you washed ashore, though.”
“And we aren’t sure what kind of Phenomenon, there were just rumors of things being displaced and thrown around space. But we only found you there.
I pause for a moment thinking about what she said. It could have to do with me after all...I’ll keep that information to myself for now...I decide to change the topic instead.
“And Exploration Teams? Do you just...explore places to find things or treasure?” I ask.
Sentret begins to explain, her voice carrying a hint of patience. “Somewhat, yes! An Exploration Team is a group of Pokémon who venture into locations called Mystery Dungeons. Their primary objective is to seek out valuable treasures and uncover the secrets hidden within them.”
Before Sentret can continue, Happiny eagerly interrupts, his excitement palpable.
“And Mystery Dungeons are like intricate mazes that alter their layout each time they are entered. They are filled with challenges and dangers, and if you happen to faint within them, you risk losing your hard-earned items and money!”
Sentret's frustration resurfaces, evident in her response.
“Yes, that's true as well,” she retorts, subtly indicating her dissatisfaction with Happiny's less composed manner.
"So then, how did you two even decide to become an Exploration Team?" I inquire, attempting to keep the conversation flowing and distract myself.
Sentret and Happiny exchange glances, their eyes shimmering with fondness, and then share a soft giggle between them. Their camaraderie is evident, and it gives me a flicker of hope that perhaps I can find solace and belonging in their presence.
"We'll save that story for another time," Sentret says, a warm smile gracing her face.
It's a gesture of reassurance and care, a subtle indication that they want to ensure my safety and well-being before delving into their own tale.
As Sentret's smile reaches my eyes, a sudden surge of conflicting emotions envelops me. I yearn to recall joyful moments with my mother and sister, these smiles and happy faces want me to reach out to those lost times...but my mind is instantly assaulted by the traumatic image of my father's violence. The weight of those memories threatens to drown me once more, and I feel my consciousness slipping away, I can’t stay awake anymore…I hear Sentret and Happiny rush back over to me and shout for me, I just then realize before fully fainting that I never even told them my name…

I blink my eyes open, my surroundings shifting into focus. It feels different this time, almost surreal. I'm no longer a Clamperl, no longer submerged in a world of talking Pokémon. Instead, I find myself sitting in the familiar confines of the Principal's office at my high school. It's as if the events that unfolded just moments ago were merely figments of my imagination.
My mother sits beside me, her face filled with a mixture of concern and pride. Principal Royce, a stern yet compassionate figure, leans forward across his desk, his gaze fixed upon me. They're engaged in conversation, discussing my academic achievements, but their words seem distant and muffled as my mind struggles to fully comprehend this apparent return to human form. My ears ring and I feel as if water is filling them up...
"Sterling, you have always excelled academically," Principal Royce states, his voice laced with a mix of admiration and frustration as he turns to me, waking me fully up. "But we've noticed that you tend to isolate yourself from your peers. It's important to engage socially, to form connections with your classmates."
My mother's eyes meet mine, filled with a mixture of love and concern.
"Sweetheart, we want what's best for you. It's important to find a balance between your studies and connecting with others. Building relationships will open doors for you in the future."
I nod absently, my attention drifting away from the conversation. Thoughts swirl within my mind, fragments of memories intermingling with this bewildering reality. It feels so vivid, so real, that I can't help but wonder if this is a dream within a dream. I was just with Sentret and Happiny was I not? I was a Clamperl. Could they be my friends?
As they both notice my distant gaze, Principal Royce clears his throat and speaks with a touch of gentle concern. "Sterling, is everything alright? You seem lost in thought."
I snap back to attention, my voice barely above a whisper as I reply, "I... I'm sorry. I'm just... lost in my own thoughts." I dart my eyes around the room, trying to make out anything remotely familiar. But I can’t even read the words on the loosely hung posters on the brick walls.
"Sterling, are you sure, you seem shaken." my mother's voice breaks through the haze of my thoughts, filled with genuine concern. I meet her gaze, searching for answers in her eyes.
"Where's Dad?" I ask, my voice trembling with a mix of curiosity and trepidation. The question hangs in the air, and I notice a flicker of reluctance in my mother's expression.
"He... he's not here right now, Sterling," she replies, her voice tinged with a hint of sorrow. The words leave an ache in my chest, a reminder of the fractured relationship that exists between my father and me, I also stare at her longingly as if this would be for the last time.
Before the silence can stretch any longer, Principal Royce interjects, attempting to redirect my attention.
"Sterling, let's focus on the present, shall we? I understand that there may be unresolved matters, but for now, let's concentrate on your academics."
He leans forward, his tone encouraging.
"I'd like you to complete the homework assignment I gave you. I want you to take a moment and write down what you envision for your future. It's important to have a sense of direction, to set goals for yourself. And to that matter, I want you by the end of the day to hand that back to me."
As his words sink in, a familiar sense of déjà vu washes over me, as if I've lived through this very scenario before. The weight of uncertainty settles upon me, knowing that even the principal is uncertain about my aspirations. Time feels like it's slipping away, yet unmoving.
I slowly nod. He hands me a red notebook, the words on the cover swirling together as if made of water. I look at it highly curiously and flinch for a moment. I turn my gaze toward my mother, seeking solace in her presence, only to be met with a visage twisted with concern and worry. Her face was contorted and stretched, akin to that of fake human-like creatures. Her genuine care, now being made into such a horrific display tug at my heartstrings, and a tear wells up in my eye. She smiles, her head cracking as she tilts it downwards.
A wave of unnatural fear washes over me, as if some unseen force lurks in the depths of this disconcerting dream. I lift my eyes, searching for answers, but instead of Principal Royce, I find myself locked in a gaze with a white-haired girl. Her ethereal presence stands in stark contrast to the black void that now engulfs us. She wears a serene glowing purple dress, her eyes made of a dark green...The office has vanished. Confusion engulfs my mind, as I struggle to make sense of what is even going on...I’m back in an aurora-filled place.
“Who...who are you.” I ask candidly...
I glance around, my surroundings shifting once again, and I find myself transformed back into the form of a Clamperl. Panic and disbelief surge through me, as I grapple with the surreal nature of this realm. The white-haired girl takes a step forward, her aura radiating an otherworldly tranquility. With a gentle motion, she unfurls a singular, angelic wing, and her voice resonates in a tone that seems to carry ancient wisdom.
"Wake up," she utters, her words resonating with a mystical quality that seems to echo.

I jolt awake, my heart pounding in my chest, as I find myself in an unfamiliar and rustic setting. The makeshift bed beneath me consists of rough hay, and the humble mud hut surrounds me, its clay furniture and simple decor giving it an earthy charm. The air carries the scent of damp earth and the subtle musk of vegetation, blending with the faint aroma of burning wood from a nearby fire pit. Outside, the ground is covered in patches of dead grass and scattered clumps of pulled-apart dirt, bearing the marks of a land that has seen its share of struggle.
As I take in the scene around me, I draw a deep breath to steady myself. "What the hell was that..." I mutter to myself, the words escaping me in a hushed whisper. The remnants of the dream, or whatever it was, linger in my mind, haunting my thoughts like a specter. The image of the white-haired girl, her mysterious presence weighs heavily upon me.
I glance down at my transformed body, once again a Clamperl in this enigmatic Pokémon world. Fear grips me as I grapple with the uncertainty of what that dream may signify, and who that ethereal woman could possibly be. Questions swirl within me, demanding answers that seem just out of reach. Is there a connection between that dream and my existence as a Pokémon? Or is it merely an illusion, a figment of my own imagination?
As I try to gather my bearings in this strange mud hut, a low rumbling sound catches my attention. I turn towards the entrance, and there, standing tall and formidable, the Pokémon known as Ursaring. With a commanding presence, they enter the room, their massive form towering over me. Their dark fur shimmers in the soft light that filters through the cracks in the walls, and their eyes hold both wisdom and warmth.
"Ah, you're awake," Ursaring's voice carries a motherly tone, as if she's seen countless individuals regain consciousness within these walls, a voice I recognize as female.
She begins firing off questions without giving me a chance to respond, her inquisitive nature combining with genuine concern.
"Did you sleep well? Are you feeling any pain? How's your appetite?" Her voice is assertive yet laced with a sense of care, a prying yet protective presence. She invades my personal space touching my shell and my squishy interior.
I take a moment to process her inquiries and touches, realizing that answering at least one question might placate her and allow me to focus on the pressing matters at hand. "I... I slept fine, I guess," I reply, my tone lacking the enthusiasm that usually accompanies polite conversation. However, my own concerns bubble to the surface, overriding the small talk.
"Where... Where am I? What happened to me?" I blurted out, my voice tinged with a mixture of anxiety and desperation. “I remember…Sentret and Happiny.” I try to remember; I think I went unconscious.
"In Tengentopa Village, dear, a safe haven nestled amidst the wilderness," Ursaring responds, her words laced with a comforting tone. "Sentret and Happiny discovered you washed ashore near the Cape of Wonders. You were in a delicate state, but fear not, I have done my best to tend to your needs."
Her reassurances wash over me, providing a fleeting sense of relief. While my mind continues to race with unanswered questions, I realize that, for now, I must regain my bearings. I can't let myself become overwhelmed by the vast sea of uncertainties. Answers will come in due time, or so I hope.
"So, you are the doctor then, right?" I inquire, attempting to push aside the swirling thoughts in my mind, if only for a moment.
"Yes, dear! I am Ursaring," Ursaring affirms, her voice brimming with pride and dedication. "In Tengentopa Village, I am commonly referred to as Mama Bear, as I care for everyone with earnestness and honor."
As she gently lifts and inspects my shell, assessing its damage, I can't help but feel a glimmer of gratitude towards this caring Pokémon. Despite the overwhelming circumstances that have brought me to this village, I find solace in knowing that there are individuals like Mama Bear, devoted to the well-being of others.
Sentret and Happiny enter the room, their voices filled with animated chatter as they engage in a spirited discussion about Oran Berries.
"Ha! I knew I could carry more Oran Berries than you, Sentret!" Happiny exclaims with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "I've got my trusty pouch, you see! It gives me the advantage."
Sentret's expression twists into a mix of amusement and exasperation.
"Happiny, that's not fair! You can't just stick berries in your pouch and call it carrying. That's cheating!"
Their bickering abruptly ceases as they notice Mama Bear and I awake. With wide eyes, they drop the scattered Oran Berries onto the floor, a sense of guilt washing over them. Mama Bear's dismay is evident, as the precious supply of food for the village is now somewhat bruised and smushed.
"Oh no! Mama Bear, we're sorry!" Sentret blurts out, her voice tinged with genuine remorse. "We got carried away with our competition and forgot about the importance of our duties." She already assumes back her more orderly stature, more akin to the Sentret I saw back on the beach. her vocabulary was overly mature, which was oddly funny.
Happiny, his usually cheerful demeanor now clouded with guilt, adds,
"Yeah, we messed up. We'll make it right, Mama Bear. We promise." Happiny states very much fearful of the current situation.
Mama Bear's stern gaze softens as she sighs, a mix of disappointment and understanding evident in her expression.
"We'll talk about this later, but for now, let's focus on him. He needs our attention."
Sentret and Happiny approach me cautiously, their concern palpable. Sentret, ever the older sister figure, wears a look of compassionate determination, while Happiny's eyes shimmer with genuine care.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Sentret inquires, her voice gentle yet assertive. "Do you need anything? Are you in pain?" Again, that question, I am almost annoyed with that question at this point. How many times do I have to convince others...and myself.
Happiny, his earlier competitive spirit now replaced with genuine worry, adds, "Yeah, we're really sorry about all this. We're here for you. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help."
I take a moment to observe their contrasting personalities, Sentret's calm and dependable nature, and Happiny's lighthearted and caring disposition. Despite their squabbles, it's clear that their hearts are in the right place, their genuine concern for my well-being shining through. I offer a weak smile, grateful for their support.
"I appreciate it, both of you," I reply, my voice filled with gratitude. "Right now, I'm just trying to make sense of everything. There’s a lot to process. But Mama Bear here has helped a lot..."
Sentret and Happiny exchange sheepish glances after realizing something.
Sentret's voice carries a hint of amusement as she speaks up, "By the way, we never got your name. Sorry about that."
I pause for a moment, a faint smile tugging at me, regardless of what’s happened today. "No worries. To be fair, I haven't really had a decent chance to introduce myself with everything that's happened," I reply, my tone filled with a touch of self-awareness.
Happiny giggles, his eyes twinkling with curiosity. "Well then, spill the beans! What's your name?"
Taking a deep breath, I offer them my name. One that feels odd now, for some reason. "I'm Sterling," I say, the words carrying a sense of identity and familiarity, yet again, wrong…
Both Sentret and Happiny exchange puzzled glances, their voices overlapping as they speak almost in unison. "Sterling?”
“That's... an interesting name. It's a bit unusual, but it strangely fits you," Sentret remarks, her tone a mix of intrigue and playfulness.
Mama Bear, her eyes softening with maternal warmth, interjects gently, "Now, now, Sentret, it's not nice to make comments about someone's name or appearance. Everyone is unique in their own way, and we should embrace those differences."
Sentret lowers her head, their expressions reflecting a sense of remorse. "You're right, Mama Bear. I didn't mean any harm by it, it was more of a compliment than anything else" Sentret concedes, her voice laced with genuine contrition, yet assumes a pose signifying herself to be of a higher standard than her actions.
I offer them an understanding low smile, eager to diffuse any tension. "It's okay, really. I know you didn't mean anything negative by it.”
Mama Bear's eyes sparkle with approval, her voice filled with gentle pride. "That's the spirit, Sterling. Understanding and compassion are key to building a strong bond within our village. Now let’s introduce you to the rest of the Village.”
I feel a sense of warmth in my chest, this is a bond I haven’t had for a while. In this moment, amidst the uncertainties and challenges, I realize that I'm not alone. I have found companions who, despite their quirks, genuinely care for my well-being, despite being a full stranger. With their support and the guidance of Mama Bear, I feel a flicker of hope reignite within me, propelling me forward on this unpredictable journey. I want to continue further, let’s see what Tengentopa has to offer!

Stepping out of the mud house, I find myself bathed in the warm hues of a breathtaking glowing sun. The sky is ablaze with shades of gold and amethyst, casting a surreal glow over the village of Tengentopa. Rows of mud brick houses line the path, their exteriors smoothed and polished, some still glistening with moisture. The village possesses a sense of unity and simplicity, an unspoken harmony that permeates the air.
As I walk along the dusty path, I catch glimpses of Pokémon conversing with one another, their voices mingling with laughter and animated gestures. There is a trio of Deino’s drawing out a map on the ground. Several Drifblims floating in the air with other species of Pokémon riding on what I would call a dangerous seating arrangement across the village. Rellor & Minccino clean up the dusty streets making sure the dirt paths do not get lost and weathered.
Behind the houses, near the outskirts of the village, I notice the presence of large teepees and tents, providing shelter for the diverse community that thrives here. Pokémon of all shapes and sizes gather, engaging in lively discussions and sharing stories of their adventures.
The aroma of fresh herbs and wildflowers wafts through the air, blending with the earthy scent of the mud houses. The sound of chirping Pokémon fills the surroundings, their melodies creating a soothing symphony that resonates with the calmness of the village. It's as if time has taken a pause in this tranquil haven, allowing moments of respite and connection.
I take a moment to absorb the sights and sounds, feeling a newfound appreciation for the simplicity and beauty that surrounds me. Sentret, walking alongside me, breaks the tranquil silence with a hint of solemnity in her voice.
"You see, Sterling, most of the Pokémon here in Tengentopa are actually rescues from Mystery Dungeons. Many of them have been saved from perilous situations by the courageous exploration teams that you see at the teepees and tents."
She points with her stump of a hand to which I look over and see one team consisting of Klawf, Scyther and a Flaaffy.
Her words sink in, and I find myself captivated by the magnitude of their selfless acts. "So, those Pokémon over there are the ones who risk their lives to keep this village alive and thriving?" I inquired, my voice tinged with a mix of awe and curiosity.
Sentret nods, her eyes shining with admiration.
"Exactly! They are the high-ranking exploration teams, venturing into the Mystery Dungeons to retrieve valuable treasures and help keep our village safe. It's their bravery and dedication that ensure our well-being."
Mama Bear joins the conversation, her voice carrying a weight of concern.
"Unfortunately, in recent times, we've noticed an increase in vile Pokémon appearing and sprawling Mystery Dungeons. The challenges we face have grown, and it's becoming more difficult to maintain the delicate balance of our village."
As her words hang in the air, a sense of gravity settles upon me. This new world I find myself in is not without its dangers and uncertainties. The reality of the situation slowly seeps into my consciousness, coalescing with the lingering doubts that persist within me.
"I understand," I responded, my voice laced with a hint of apprehension. "Sentret, Happiny, you two are also an exploration team, aren't you? I slightly remember you two bringing that up."
Sentret and Happiny exchange glances, their expressions a mix of pride and eagerness. Happiny, unable to contain his excitement, jumps in with enthusiasm.
"That's right! We're team Mighty Fighties, ready to face any challenge that comes our way. We may not be the highest-ranked, but we're determined to make a difference!"
Sentret's voice carries a touch of reassurance as she adds, "We may be small, but we have a big heart. Together, we'll explore the Mystery Dungeons, help others, and contribute to the village's well-being."
A spark of curiosity ignites within me as Sentret mentions the Mystery Dungeons once more. I find myself wondering what it would be like to venture into those perilous labyrinths, to experience the thrill and danger that Sentret and Happiny have faced. Unable to contain my curiosity, I turn to Sentret and ask, "What is it like inside a Mystery Dungeon?"
Sentret's eyes briefly gloss over, as if lost in a distant memory. Her usually vibrant demeanor fades into a more somber tone. "At first, it was exciting and filled with wonder," she begins, her voice tinged with a hint of melancholy. "But one wrong step, one careless move, and everything could change in an instant. The dangers lurking within are real, Sterling. If Happiny and I hadn't been careful, we wouldn't be standing here today."
Her words send a shiver down my spine, a reminder of the perilous nature of the Mystery Dungeons. Yet, Sentret's expression soon brightens, her tone filled with a mix of nostalgia and anticipation. "But, you know what? Despite the risks, there's something exhilarating about the search for treasure and loot within those dungeons. The sense of discovery, the unknown awaiting us—it's a feeling I can't quite put into words. I long to return and delve deeper, to unearth hidden secrets and overcome the challenges that await."
Her words carry a sense of both caution and excitement, a juxtaposition that reflects the complex nature of their experiences. The allure of the Mystery Dungeons, the thrill of the unknown, dances in the corners of my mind, mingling with the doubts and fears that still reside within me.
As I continue to express my growing fascination with the Mystery Dungeons, Mama Bear's perceptive gaze meets mine. In her eyes, I catch a glimpse of concern and a hint of familiarity, a flicker reminiscent of the worries my mother often carried. The resemblance strikes a chord within me, awakening memories that I quickly push aside, reminding myself that this is a different world with its own distinct dynamics.
A heavy sigh escapes Mama Bear's lips, breaking the momentary connection between us. "Sterling, I can see the curiosity in your eyes," she says, her voice laced with a mixture of understanding and caution. "But I must tell you, and you two as well,” She gazes to Sentret and Happiny. “There won't be any Dungeon delving for the time being. Our village leader and his top teammates are currently on an important expedition, investigating a sinkhole that has appeared not far from here."
Her words weigh on me, a reminder that even in the face of my burgeoning curiosity, there are larger matters at hand. The safety and well-being of the village take precedence, and the absence of their experienced team serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges they face.
"I understand," I respond, a feeling of understanding in my voice. "The sinkhole must be a concern for everyone...”
Mama Bear nods, a glimmer of appreciation in her eyes. "Indeed, Sterling. Our village's security and unity are paramount. We must and should wait for their return before any further exploration can take place. In the meantime, there is still much to learn, discover, and contribute to the community. The village thrives not only through the Dungeon expeditions but also through the bonds we forge and the support we offer one another."
Her words resonate deeply within me, reminding me of the importance of unity and the strength found in community. While the allure of the Mystery Dungeons persists, I understand that patience and preparation are key.
Sentret takes a deep breath, her eyes filled with a mix of nostalgia and concern.
"It has been nearly a month since the sinkhole appeared, and our village leader set out to investigate the Ancient Barrow. It's unusual for him to be away for such an extended period, but the villagers have not lost hope. We believe in his abilities and his dedication to our community."
Happiny, his usually cheerful demeanor now tinged with worry, speaks up with a tremor in his voice.
"The village leader... he means so much to me. I... I don't want anything bad to happen to him."
Sentret's gaze softens, and she moves closer to Happiny, offering him comfort.
"I understand, Happiny. The village leader has always been there for us, guiding and protecting us. But we must have faith that he is doing everything he can to ensure our safety. We must stay strong for him and for each other."
Mama Bear, observing the exchange with a gentle smile, interjects.
"Sentret and Happiny may not have been together for a long time, but their bond runs deep. They've faced challenges and triumphs together, forging a connection that goes beyond words. It's beautiful to see the care and support they show for one another."
It makes sense...They have an origin that made them both smile when I asked about it. But with everything going on in this village it's fair to be concerned. Who’s this village leader and his exploration team? I want to meet them myself hopefully. Maybe I can get used to this world and thrive..
Who am I kidding I’m no fighter or explorer, internally I really just want to go back home and lay in my bed for twelve hours straight...
As we continue our exploration through Tengentopa Village, I am attempt to be fascinated by the diverse range of Pokémon that inhabit this vibrant community. Each corner we turn reveals new groups engaged in various activities, their unique appearances and personalities adding color to the scene.
A trio of mischievous Aipom swing from tree branches, their tails curling and twirling in delight. One of them playfully reaches out and tickles Happiny, eliciting a giggle from the normally timid Pokémon. Happiny, in turn, offers them a bright smile, their innocence creating an instant connection.
Further down the path, a pair of elegant Gardevoir & Gallade gracefully practice their psychic abilities, their movements synchronized and precise. Sentret watches in awe, her eyes shining with admiration for their grace and power. They exchange a nod of mutual respect, acknowledging the strength that lies within each of them. I can tell she wants to become an earnest explorer.
A team of explorers comprising a bold Scrafty, a clever Bronzor, and a stoic Duraludon pass by, their equipment jingling with each step. They carry an air of confidence and experience, their presence a testament to the dedication required for successful exploration. Sentret strikes up a conversation with them, her inquisitive nature shining through as they discuss their recent discoveries. Scrafty it looked for a moment like he was gazing at me...
In the distance, a group of playful Wooper joyfully splash in a nearby pond, their cheerful laughter filling the air. Happiny can't resist joining in their aquatic antics, his contagious laughter blending with theirs, creating a symphony of pure delight.
A trio of scholarly Slowking engrossed in deep conversation catches my attention. Their wisdom and intellect radiate from their focused expressions, and I find myself drawn to their profound knowledge. Mama Bear engages in a thoughtful discussion with them, sharing insights and seeking guidance on matters affecting the village. I learned from that conversation that there are some explorers who have a disdain for the leader.
As we weave our way through the bustling streets, the sights and sounds of the village envelop me, painting a vivid picture of unity and camaraderie. The diversity of Pokémon and their interactions showcase the strength that lies in embracing our differences and working together towards a common goal. After a while more, we reach the outskirts of the village, Mama Bear turns to me with a gentle smile.
"I'm glad you enjoyed your time in the village, dear. It's a place of warmth and acceptance. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued and cared for."
I nod, the contrast between Tengentopa Village and my past life as a human becoming stark in my mind. Memories of my old neighborhood flood my thoughts, where polarizing opinions and judgment clouded the air. The kids in the area were forbidden to play with me due to my father's occupation. Not that I really ever wanted to talk to them anyways. I always got looks from them...I could never escape the rumors that swirled around my mother either, rumors that remain shrouded in mystery to this day since I never had the opportunity to look into.
As a teenager, I spent most of my time alone, confined within the walls of my home. The outside world seemed daunting and unforgiving, and school became nothing more than a chore. I barely exerted any effort, choosing to do only the bare minimum required. This strained my relationships not only with my family but also with the neighborhood as a whole. I harbored resentment, blaming everyone else for making my life more difficult, never once considering my own role in my isolation. In the depths of my thoughts, I started to grow passive-aggressive towards my father, contemplating whether he played a part in shaping my path towards this unexpected turn of events. I entertained the notion that he took pleasure in ruining my life, finding a twisted sense of justice in his actions instead of remorse for the catalyst that set this whole ordeal in motion. A surge of frustration courses through me, mixed with a deep sadness that I can no longer distinguish between the love and hate I once held for my father. The lines blur, leaving me lost in a mire of conflicting emotions. I yearn for answers, for closure, but deep down, I know that this newfound world of Pokémon may hold the key to unlocking the truths that eluded me as a human. Who did I care about most?

Deep within the sandy underground cave, shadows dance across the walls, their movements casting an eerie glow in the dimly lit chamber. Cobwebs hang from the ceiling, their delicate strands catching flecks of dust that float in the stagnant air. The floor is littered with bones, remnants of unfortunate souls who met their demise within this treacherous labyrinth. This is a mystery dungeon, a place where danger lurks at every turn, where the unwary can easily lose their way.
In the heart of this foreboding domain, two formidable Pokémon stand side by side. Darmanitan, with its fierce expression and flaming eyebrows, exudes an air of fiery determination. Its body, adorned with swirling patterns reminiscent of burning embers, radiates raw power. Beside it stands Rampardos, a towering creature with a head adorned by formidable horns that speak of its immense strength. Its piercing eyes glimmer with a primal intensity, ready to unleash devastating blows upon any foe. But the true focal point of this scene is the figure that stands boldly before them. The Village Leader, a Blissey unlike any other. This Blissey bears the battle scars of countless encounters, worn with a pride that speaks of its resilience and unwavering commitment to protecting the village. In place of the typical egg held in its pouch, a glowing purple orb known as the Life Orb emanates an ominous aura, a symbol of the power contained within.
As the tension in the cave reaches its peak, a thunderous roar shatters the silence. A massive, ancient Donphan charges forward, its colossal size shaking the very ground beneath it. The sheer force and ferocity of its charge is enough to strike fear into the hearts of lesser beings. Yet, Darmanitan and Rampardos remain steadfast, their eyes fixed on the approaching behemoth.
Blissey, seemingly unperturbed by the imminent danger, stands her ground with an unwavering calmness. Her aura exudes compassion and healing, a beacon of hope in the midst of chaos. It is clear that her role as the Village Leader extends far beyond her gentle exterior.
With a burst of fiery energy, Darmanitan unleashes a searing Flamethrower, flames dancing and spiraling towards the ancient Donphan. The intense heat engulfs the colossal creature, scorching its rough hide. Yet, undeterred by the flames, the Ancient Donphan charges forward, shrugging off the attack with its immense bulk.
Meanwhile, Rampardos channels his inner rage, his eyes glowing with a fierce determination. He launches itself towards the Ancient Donphan, his powerful muscles propelling himself with incredible speed. With a thunderous roar, Rampardos unleashes an onslaught of devastating blows, each strike resonating with the force of its immense strength. Outrage fuels its rampage, its attacks relentless and unyielding.
However, the ancient Donphan proves to be a formidable adversary. Its earth-shaking footsteps create tremors that rattle the cave, causing debris to rain down from above. With a powerful stomp, it sends a shockwave rippling through the ground, causing Darmanitan and Rampardos to stumble and lose their footing.
Taking advantage of their momentary weakness, the Ancient Donphan lunges forward, its massive tusks gleaming menacingly. It lands a bone-crushing Close Combat strike on Rampardos, sending him reeling backwards. The force of the blow cracks the stone walls, adding to the chaos of the battlefield.
Blissey, observing the unfolding battle, remains calm and collected. Her soothing aura envelops the area, providing a healing presence to her allies. Recognizing the need to turn the tide, she focuses her energy and conjures a powerful Blizzard, unleashing a storm of icy shards that cascade towards the Ancient Donphan. The frigid gusts cut through the air, temporarily slowing the behemoth's movements.
Seizing the opportunity, Darmanitan regains her composure and summons her psychic abilities. Her eyes glow with an otherworldly light as it manipulates the very fabric of the environment. Boulders from the cave walls are wrenched free and levitated into the air, forming a swirling vortex of rocks. With a telekinetic push, Darmanitan hurls the Rock Slide towards the Ancient Donphan, each stone crashing with tremendous force upon impact.
As the battle intensifies, the Ancient Donphan retaliates with a display of brute strength. It charges headlong, its massive bulk plowing through the chaos. Megahorn, guided by the beast's primal instincts, pierces the air with deadly accuracy, striking Rampardos with a devastating blow. The impact sends Darmanitan hurtling backwards, crashing into the cave wall with a resounding thud.
Blissey, unwavering in her resolve, taps into her vast reserves of energy. A surge of electrical power crackles around her as she releases a mighty Thunderbolt, illuminating the cave with its brilliant glow. The bolt of electricity streaks through the air, aiming for the ancient Donphan with unerring precision. The powerful shockwave courses through its body, eliciting a pained roar from the colossal creature. The ancient Donphan remains undeterred, its resolve unyielding; static sparks dissipate revealing barely any damage done to the beast. The ancient Donphan charges towards a stoic Blissey. With a powerful Play Rough, it retaliates by landing a series of forceful strikes. Blissey stumbles back, but her resilience shines through as she channels her inner strength, summoning a healing wave with Softboiled. Her injuries begin to mend, bolstering her determination to protect her comrades. Darmanitan and Rampardos stand back up, both grinning as the adrenaline fills them.
The ancient Donphan's determination appears unwavering. With a final burst of strength, it slams its colossal body into the walls of the underground cave, causing the ceiling to tremble ominously in a oddly intelligent fashion. Rocks and debris rain down, threatening to bury the combatants beneath the rubble.
Sensing the imminent danger, Blissey swiftly takes charge, her voice filled with authority. "We need to get out of here! We cannot continue this fight!" Her confident demeanor and unwavering resolve inspire her companions, who rally to her side after recovering.
Rampardos heavily battered, growls fiercely. "What the hell? It’s trying to bury us? Not on my watch!" His protective instincts kick into overdrive as he positions himself between the falling debris and his teammates, ready to shield them from harm.
Darmanitan, sensing her waning energy, undergoes a transformation. A mystical aura shrouds her, swirling with ethereal blues and purples, as if a divine force is awakening within. Her fur undergoes a mesmerizing metamorphosis, transitioning from fiery red to a deep, serene blue. Eyes that once burned with fierce determination now turn blank, as if gazing into the depths of the universe itself. A profound stillness settles over Darmanitan as her limbs fuse with her body, becoming an inseparable part of her being. This is her Zen Mode. The change brings about a surge of power, her strength amplified to unimaginable levels. She charges forward, her Iron Head and Rock Slide attacks renewed with a newfound ferocity.
With their combined efforts, they manage to temporarily halt the ancient Donphan's onslaught, creating a brief respite. Blissey, utilizing her immense knowledge of the cave's layout, guides the team through the crumbling winding passages. Her voice remains calm yet commanding, leading them to safer ground amidst the chaos.
However, as they navigate the collapsing labyrinth, the sheer force of the ancient Donphan's onslaught becomes too overwhelming. The ground quakes beneath their feet, and the walls continue to crumble around them as it tears through the walls. The trio's determination begins to waver as they face the very real possibility of being trapped within the labyrinth's depths.
In a last-ditch effort, Darmanitan unleashes a final psychic assault, utilizing her Zen Mode to manipulate the surrounding rocks and debris. With a powerful telekinetic force, she clears a path for her comrades, creating an opening through which they can escape.
With Blissey leading the way, the trio races through the collapsing cavern, each step taken with urgency and desperation. The deafening sound of crumbling rock fills the air, echoing their harrowing escape. Their bodies ache, but their resolve remains unshaken, fueling their determination to survive.
Finally, they burst forth from the crumbling dungeon into the open air, the weight of the collapsing cave left behind them. Their breaths come in ragged gasps as they take a moment to catch their breath, the adrenaline coursing through their veins slowly subsiding. The ancient Donphan left behind has its fate shrouded in mystery.
Blissey's voice, tinged with both relief and gratitude, breaks the silence. "That was...intense. Not really what I expected from here, but what matters is we’re out!"
Darmanitan, her Zen Mode fading, offers a gruff yet genuine nod. "We made it out alive. I was not even concerned for a moment heh."
Rampardos, though wearied, manages a fierce smile. "I think that’s a job well done. We did not really achieve what we set out to do, but we got newfound information about what was in the sinkhole."
Blissey's voice then shifts, carrying a tone of excitement and anticipation. "That ancient Donphan we encountered; it could be a groundbreaking discovery. Such a Pokémon has never been accounted for in history. should look into it if we can..."
As they ponder their next course of action, the trio realizes that they have emerged from the cave through a different exit than the sinkhole they entered. Confusion clouds their minds as they exchange glances, uncertainty woven into their expressions.
Darmanitan breaks the silence, her voice laced with determination. "We need to find our bearings back to Tengentopa. We have to let the village know what we discovered after all...."
Rampardos, always protective of his comrades, adds, "We should stay vigilant. The wilderness itself holds its own dangers, and we cannot afford to let our guard down."
Just as they prepare to set off, the rustling of leaves and the screeching of distant cries catch their attention. Their gazes turn towards the trees, where a group of Mankey and Primeape emerge, encircling them with an air of menace. They witness above their heads several Mandibuzz flying above encircling them.
Blissey's eyes narrow, her resolve unwavering. "It seems we have unwanted company.” She, Darmanitan and Rampardos stare down their new foes unwaveringly.

The village was nestled in the darkness, the only source of light being the faint glow of scattered lanterns. The air carries a sense of tranquility, as most of the villagers have retired to their makeshift homes, seeking rest after a day filled with introductions and discoveries. Nighttime has enveloped Tengentopa Village, casting a serene atmosphere upon its dwellings.
I find myself back in the humble hay bed, the same spot where I woke up after I fainted earlier on. My body lies still, the hay beneath me offering little comfort. Sleep is something I really can't even begin to think about having. Not after today. Not after everything.
The unfamiliar surroundings contribute to my restlessness. This is my first night in this strange new world, and everything feels fake. The air is different, the sounds of nocturnal Pokémon echoing through the night, and even the soft rustling of leaves outside my window feels both comforting and unnerving. As I lie there, I can't help but contemplate the passage of time. How long has it really been since I found myself here? It feels like mere hours, but the events of the day weigh heavily on my mind. The school dream, the shocking discovery at home, and the encounter with my father... Did he really end my life? Is that why I find myself reborn as a Clamperl in this Pokémon world? Or...am I just in some kind of purgatory. Some palce where my own sins will be something I'll have to bear.
A shiver runs down my shell as I recall the words and actions of my father. The pain and confusion resurface, refusing to be buried deep within my subconscious. I told myself I wouldn't dwell on these thoughts, but here I am, awake in the dead of night, unable to resist the pull of my troubled mind. My thoughts wander to the mysterious girl, the one who appeared in my dream, offering only a wake-up call. Will I encounter her again? Is she an angel meant to guide me through purgatory? I'm not a religious person, or when I was alive I wasn't...
The uncertainty gnaws at me, adding to the weight of my already burdened thoughts. There are too many questions, too many things that can't be answered. It's overwhelming. I shift in my shell, my wet, tongue-like body, trying to find a position that eases my discomfort, both physical and mental. I close my shell, hoping to find solace in darkness, but my mind continues to race, conjuring images and scenarios that fuel my unease. I'm just a singular pearl in a sea of my own problems.
I remind myself to breathe, to find calm amidst the chaos, I have things to look forward to now. The night may be long, but tomorrow will bring new opportunities for answers and understanding. Until then, I must find a way to quiet my thoughts and get some rest at the very least...
With that intention in mind, I take a deep breath and slowly exhale. I envision the tranquil shores of the beach I arrived at, the soothing sound of waves lapping against the sand, and allow those images to guide me towards a momentary respite from my restless thoughts. I think of my sister handing me that shell...I laugh inside. Sleep may evade me for now, but the promise of a new day awaits.
The morning light filters through the village, casting a soft glow upon the surrounding huts and dwellings. I awaken from my restless night, my body feeling heavy and fatigued from the lack of sleep. The incessant churning sounds that plagued the night, resembling the calls of vultures, have left me even more weary than before. These birds, unlike the ones I was familiar with in my human life, were relentless in their cacophony.

As I try to gather my thoughts, my mind still clouded by drowsiness, the door to my humble abode bursts open, and Sentret rushes in with urgency evident in her eyes. "Sterling, come outside! Something terrible has happened!"
Startled, I quickly hopped from the hay bed and followed Sentret outside. The air carries an air of tension as I join the gathering crowd of explorers and villagers at the far end of the village. My eyes search for familiar faces, and soon I spot Sentret and Happiny amidst the crowd.
Without wasting a moment, I approached them, my voice filled with concern. "What happened? What's going on?"
Sentret's expression is grim as she meets my gaze. "Last night, the village was raided. It's unlike anything we've seen before. We're not sure who could have done this. The village has had a few minor encounters with Mankey, but this... this was something else."
Happiny nods in agreement, her normally cheerful demeanor replaced with a somber one, almost crying. "They took everything, Sterling. Our food supplies, precious treasures, and even kidnapped some of our Pokémon companions."
As we exchange worried glances, a rough voice interrupts our conversation. It's Scrafty, one of the members of the exploration team we encountered the previous day. He approaches us with a swagger, his crass demeanor evident even in the seriousness of the situation.
[BGM 10] https://youtu.be/hERlWO_lUFY
"You can bet your tails it was those Primeape scoundrels," Scrafty declares, a mix of frustration and determination in his voice. "They've been trying to swipe our belongings for a while now, but lately, they've been getting more aggressive. Seems like they've got their sights set on everything we own."
Sentret crosses her arms, her voice tinged with defiance. "We shouldn't let them get away with this then. We should find them and kick their butts!”
Happiny nods in agreement, her eyes filled with a newfound determination. "Yeah! wreck their stuff and leave with what we lost. That’s what’s right after all!"
Scrafty's cynical tone cuts through the air, his skepticism apparent in his words. "And just how do you two plan on handling this? You're both green exploration members; you've barely even been on a proper expedition. This isn't child's play, you know. You can't just expect to do what experienced teams have struggled with time and time again."
Happiny's expression wavers, a hint of vulnerability seeping through. He understands the weight of the situation and his own limited abilities. However, a fierce determination sparks in his eyes as he gathers himself, attempting to project a sense of toughness.
"Maybe I'm not as experienced as the others, but my mother would never back down from a fight like this," Happiny responds, his voice carrying a newfound conviction. "She would charge in fearlessly, taking back everything and everyone. And I can do the same." That’s a conviction I haven’t seen from Happiny before.
Sentret nods in agreement, her confidence undeterred. "We might not have the same experience as you, Scrafty, but we have the will to protect our home. We'll find a way to stop them, even if it means surpassing our own small limits."
Scrafty glances away for a moment, a mix of resignation and hidden admiration crossing his face. With a sigh, he speaks, his voice softened. "Go ahead, then. Pursue your death wish.”
Happiny pouts and stomps the ground. “I’ll prove you wrong, Scrafty!” He gets more riled up, and Sentret has to use her tail to block Happiny from pursuing Scrafty further.
Scrafty begins to walk away, turning away from me. Sentret and Happiny are waving without looking towards us; a faint smile tugs at the corners of his mouth, hidden from the others. In his mind, he adds, "Your son is growing up, Blissey.”
I look at Sentret and Happiny, my eyes reflecting a mix of curiosity and concern. "Are you two planning to go out alone and confront the Primeape after all?" I ask, my voice tinged with uncertainty. Scrafty has a point, though. From what I have seen from these two, they are more so like kids wanting to be an exploration team than anything else. How experienced are they really?
Sentret stands tall, her determination unwavering. "Yes," she replies firmly, her gaze fixed on the distance. "We can't wait for others to take action. We need to protect our village and stand up against those who threaten it, even if we are small." Sentret and Happiny turn to me, their expressions hopeful. "And what about you, Sterling?" Happiny asks, his voice gentle yet bold. "Would you like to join us?" He gives a smile that could persuade any parent.
I feel my body churn after being asked that question, though. I hesitate for a moment, then respond, "I've never fought anyone before nor gone anywhere with the intent to..." Nor as a human…I haven’t really ever stood up for myself...I am not the confrontational type. I stay out of everything; I would like to think of myself as a pacifist, ideally.
Sentret steps closer to me, her gaze filled with determination and compassion. "That's all right," she says, her voice steady. "We'll train you and help you unlock your strength. You have potential within you, Sterling. Don't underestimate what you're capable of."
"Yeah, just look at me for instance. I may be small and tiny and...small. But! I really do have the power to take on anything out there. Just like my mother." Happiny adds, proud of his words.
My uncertainty seeps into my words as I question Sentret next, "But what kind of strength could I possibly have?" A hint of insecurity leaks out, catching Sentret off guard momentarily. She quickly regains her composure, brushing off the negativity.
Maybe she’s realizing how worthless I actually am now...It's pointless to try and help me after all.
Sentret's eyes meet mine, her voice filled with conviction. "Anyone can be strong, Sterling," she assures me. "Strength isn't just about physical power; it's about finding the courage to confront any problem, be it with others or even with oneself. That's what I've learned so far as an explorer."
I attempt to absorb her words, a flicker of determination igniting within me, albeit small. I take a deep breath and nod. "All right," I say, my voice steady. "I'll try; what’s the worst that can happen... I'll join you, and hopefully you are right.”
What have I gotten myself into now...? I really just accepted putting myself in danger like this in a place like a Mystery Dungeon where I could end up... I really don't want to think about the result...nor do I want to get lost again...

In the warm summer sun, I stand at the edge of the large pool in the middle of our backyard. My small hands grip the side tightly as I watch my father wade into the water, motioning for me to join him. My heart pounds, and my stomach twists.
"Dad, I don't like the water. It's scary," I confess, my voice shaking with uncertainty.
He smiles at me, his expression full of warmth and reassurance. "I used to feel the same way when I was your age. Water can be intimidating, but sometimes we need to face our fears to discover something amazing."
I hesitate, but then I take a deep breath and step forward, my toes sinking into the cool water. A shiver runs up my spine as it reaches my ankles.
"You know," my father continues, his voice calm and steady, "I was a competitive swimmer back in high school. But I didn’t start that way. It took time and effort to get comfortable in the water. Learning new things is tough, Sterling. It's never easy, but it’s how we grow."
He reaches for me, and I let him guide me into the pool. His arms are strong, steady, and safe. Slowly, he teaches me the basics, offering encouragement with every small step I take. At first, fear grips me, but as the minutes pass, something changes. The panic fades just a little, replaced by a feeling I don’t expect—excitement. I kick my feet, move my arms, and suddenly, I realize I’m floating. I’m actually doing it.
Later, wrapped in towels and sitting by the pool, my father turns to me with a sparkle of excitement in his eyes. "You did great today. Maybe this summer, you and your sister can visit the beach. It’s a different kind of water, but it might help you see that the ocean isn’t as scary as it seems."
I grin at him, my fear replaced by something warmer—confidence. “Yeah! That sounds fun. Maybe you can show me more on how to swim so I can show off to Mom!”
My father laughs, and I laugh with him. Then I frown, looking up at my father.
“What if I drown and you or Mom can’t find me? That thought is scary...” I say losing the confidence my father just gave to me.
He pauses for a second and pats my head.
“I wouldn’t ever let you drown, Sterling. You are my pride and joy.”
As he pulls me into a hug, I realize something—I was afraid of the water before, but now, it doesn’t seem so scary anymore. Maybe, just maybe, I’m ready for more. I can’t wait for this summer!

The forest enveloped us in a verdant embrace as we ventured deeper along the path outside of the village. The rustling leaves and the distant hum of Pokémon created a symphony of nature around us. My shell felt heavier than usual as I scuttled across the grounds, not just from the dense underbrush but also from the weight of the decision to embark on this journey. We left a bit ago to track down the Mankey and Primeape once and for all.
"I wouldn't usually do something like this," I thought to myself, a mix of uncertainty and eagerness in my eyes. "But maybe it's time to start growing up and facing the challenges in front of me."
Happiny's whimpers cut through my contemplation. His body hung downwards, his numbs for hands flailing around alongside his steps. He was struggling with the reality of our mission, his courage flickering like a fragile flame. "Let's go back home. We aren't cut out for thiiiiiiis," he pleaded, his voice a mixture of fear and doubt.
Sentret shot him a puzzled look. "What? You were the one who stood up to Scrafty and pushed us to do this in the first place," she retorted, her tone a blend of surprise and reproach.
Happiny hung his head, admitting, "I knowwwwwwwwwww, but that was just a flash of determination, not the real thing!" He whimpers more about to fall onto the ground.
I sighed, realizing that Happiny's wavering resolve mirrored my own inner struggles a bit ago. "Don’t we have to face new challenges to grow and get better at this," I said, trying to reassure him. I turned to Sentret, seeking affirmation. "Isn't that right?"
Sentret smiled, her eyes reflecting both experience and optimism. "Absolutely. Growth comes from facing the unknown. That’s what we were taught right?" She places her nubs for hands on her sides, raising herself up with her tail to seem larger than life.
Encouraged, Happiny nodded, attempting to steel himself. With newfound determination, he sprinted ahead of us, positioning himself proudly in front, almost tripping in the process. "That’s right guys! We're an exploration team, and nothing can stop us! Undefeatable, Undeniable! Unstoppa-"

However, the universe had other plans. In an instant, a Seviper burst forth from the underbrush, its sinister presence unmistakable. It slammed into Happiny with a force that sent both of them careening into the forest to the east. "Happiny!" Sentret and I exclaimed simultaneously, our voices echoing through the trees.
The forest blurred as we began to race through the dense foliage, the urgency of our pursuit overshadowed by the ominous silence that loomed overhead. Sentret's words sliced through the tension, revealing a side of her I hadn't seen before.
“Happiny has always been careless like this, and I've had to be the bigger person out of both of us. He got careless. I told you before, one wrong move in the Mystery Dungeon, and you are snake food."
Her anger was palpable, laced with an undercurrent of fear and worry. I stumbled for words, attempting to offer reassurance.
"I'm sure Happiny will be fine. He may be super timid... and, uh, not the smartest." Sentret shot me a daggered stare, her emotions a turbulent sea. I pressed on, desperately trying to be supportive. "But! But! He's definitely strong enough to hold his own. Otherwise, your Team wouldn't even exist, right?"
A heavy sigh escaped Sentret as she moved ahead of me. My attempt at comforting her seemed to have fallen flat. Did I say something wrong? I still didn't know much about Sentret or Happiny. Perhaps they had a deeper history than I initially thought. I still don’t know how they met after all...
[BGM 12] https://youtu.be/zLn4qt26x2g
In the oppressive darkness, Happiny's senses slowly returned. The air around him was thick and humid, and a viscous substance clung to his skin, reminiscent of a damp and sticky environment. His first instinct was to panic, but a peculiar voice disrupted his thoughts.
A sibilant whisper slithered through the darkness, "Hssss... Stay sssstill, my sssweet morsssel. You will wait right where you are... until you become my feassst." Happiny's eyes widened as the voice resonated in a distinctly snake-like timbre.
As his vision adjusted to the dim surroundings, Happiny realized he was nestled inside the hollowed interior of a tree, its walls coated with a slimy, honey-like substance. The situation became clearer as the Seviper, its purple scales glistening, lowered its head into the tree hollow, locking eyes with Happiny.
Cowering in the confined space, Happiny mustered the courage to protest, "I'm not edible! I may be egg-shaped! But, uh... I am not an egg! I am Happiny!" He took a moment to marvel at his own eloquence, feeling rather proud of his persuasive skills.
The Seviper frowned, its forked tongue flicking out, tasting the air. In a snake-like voice, it responded, "Hsss... Not the ssssmartessst meal, unfortunate indeed..." The disappointment in its tone sent shivers down Happiny's spine. As he remained trapped in the sticky confines of the tree, the reality of the situation sank in – he was still in grave danger, surrounded by the ominous presence of the hungry Seviper.
"Aww man..." Happiny says lumping down in the tree sap.
The clearing in the forest bore the scars of a territorial struggle. Slash marks marred the bark of dense trees, the ground was upheaved and rearranged as if swept by a colossal broom, and detritus—twigs, sticks, leaves, and rocks—scattered haphazardly. A large dead tree on the side wore a sticky coat of honey, a sinister decoration left behind.

As Sentret and I entered this eerie scene, Sentret abruptly halted, dropping to all fours, her demeanor shifting into one of focused alertness. I was somewhat puzzled... "What are you doing, Sentret?"
Hushing me with a stubby hand to her own mouth, Sentret whispered, "Scouting ahead…This is the territory of another Pokémon.” She replies earnestly. “Since the collapse of many Mystery Dungeons on this continent like this one, these ‘Territorial Dens’ have taken their place."
I was a fair bit more bewildered than before and decided to press for clarification, "Collapsed? You never mentioned that before, just an increase of bad guys. And Territorial Dens? There's a lot of information I have to grasp here." I became somewhat confused at this point, I really wanted to help Happiny and I know Sentret did too, but...
Sentret sighed, casting an uneasy glance around. She gets back off the ground and her ears raise listening… "It's complicated. Not even I fully understand, nor am I supposed to because apparently, I'm just a kid…" Her focus seemed wanning as her own trepidation of continuing further caught up to her.
"Hey...I'm sorry I didn't-" I try to lighten the mood to make her feel better but she shushes me again, slightly annoying me albeit trying to maintain a calmer demeanor. Her senses start to tingle as if they were being watched, her thoughts being interrupted...
Before I could make sense of the situation, a Seviper leaped into action from above in the trees, catching her off guard. Sentret, quick on her feet, turned around and shouted, "Sterling, watch out!" Using her tail, she propelled herself above me, catching Seviper's attention pushing me aside landing me against the brush on the outskirts.
Executing a swift Double-Edge, Sentret careened Seviper backward towards the trees. As she landed, taking recoil from her defensive maneuver, Seviper coiled around the trunk to recover, sinister laughter echoing. In a snake-like voice, it taunted, "Sssuch a big missstake, little foolsss. Now I have even more to devour... and an oceanic delicacy to sssavor..." It states looking towards me. I guess I technically am seafood after all...
[BGM 13] https://youtu.be/r0kfCb2xTFs
Sentret rose from her crouching position, determination etched across her face, while I remained frozen, caught in the chaos, unsure of my next move, or even what my body was truly capable of at this point. My mind raced, my heart pounding within my shell as Sentret stood her ground against the Seviper. The serpent’s iridescent scales gleamed menacingly as it coiled back into an aggressive stance, its forked tongue flicking in and out.
"Ssssuch recklesssss bravery… You’ll break sssso easily." Seviper hissed before lunging forward with alarming speed, its entire body whipping into a brutal Take Down. Sentret barely had time to react, pivoting on her tail and leaping sideways, but the sheer force of the attack sent her rolling across the dirt regardless through the dodge.
Sentret groaned, but she pushed herself back up with fierce determination. "Tch—That all you got you dumb snake?" She spat a wad of dust from her mouth and launched forward, her tiny nub of a fist glowing an icy blue as she swung an Ice Punch directly at Seviper’s face.
A sickening CRACK rang out as the attack connected, frost forming along Seviper's jaw. The snake recoiled with a hiss of pain but didn’t fall. Instead, it retaliated with Poison Tail, its bladed tail glowing a venomous purple before lashing out. Sentret barely had time to raise her tail and arms in a defensive stance before the toxic strike hit home, sending her skidding backward.
I stood frozen, watching as Sentret struggled back to her feet, her breathing labored. She was fighting her hardest, but she couldn’t take too many more hits like that. She hasn;t made much progress here how could anyone—
“Sterling!” she snapped, keeping her eyes on Seviper. “Don’t just stand there—do something!”
My mind blanked. What the hell was I supposed to do? I barely even understood what was happening, much less how to fight like a Pokémon! How does she expect me to know how to even fight? Wasn't she the one who said She and Happiny would train me and help me unlock your strength? I clenched my clammy muscles, trying to summon some kind of instinct, some muscle memory—
But nothing came. No hidden knowledge. No sudden burst of power...
...Just helplessness. I’m worthless like I thought. No one should depend on me.
Meanwhile, a muffled voice called out from inside the tree. “Uh—guys? A little help here!?” Happiny. He was trapped inside that tree! And from the sound of it, he wasn’t making much progress escaping from it. Seviper’s gaze flicked to the tree for a split second, its predatory grin widening with a plan...
The Seviper lunged from Sentret, slithering rapidly toward the hollow tree, jaws widening for a Crunch attack surprising Happiny who just stared forwards—
“Not on my watch!” Sentret shot forward with Quick Attack, moving faster than I thought possible. She crashed into Seviper’s side, shoving it off course before it could reach Happiny. But the momentary victory was short-lived, Seviper lashed out, wrapping its thick body around Sentret in a suffocating Wrap attack.
"You ssssslithered right into my trap, you delectable mammal, you..." It cackled loudly wincing somewhat.
She gasped, struggling as the coils tightened. “Nngh—Sterling—help—!”
Again?? why is it me...Think, think, THINK! Why should I be the one helping her, Happiny could just do it himself... Why am I the one who needs to be the saviour...I can’t be a hero. I failed Mom. I failed my sister...I'm just a failure.
But for Sentret...I was a new friend...I was someone worthy of being with them...I can't just let her and Happint down. I had to act. I had to fight. But how? I wasn’t a human anymore. I was a Pokémon. And Pokémon battled. But I had no idea what moves I could use, or how to even begin,
Seviper’s grip tightened, and Sentret’s struggling slowed. She wouldn’t last much longer under that pressure.
I felt my pearl-like body tingling under the pressure. My muscles squirming. Move, Sterling. Move!
Then, as if something inside me clicked, I felt a deep, raw energy stir in me. Instinctively, I opened my mouth, and something shimmered to life—a spiraling, glowing sphere of water gathering before me. Before I could even think, I let it fly.
The ball of energy crashed into Seviper, sending a blast of water splashing across its coiled form. The snake hissed in shock, momentarily loosening its grip just enough for Sentret to wriggle free. She hit the ground hard, coughing and wet, but immediately scrambled back to her feet.
I stood there, stunned. Did… did I just use...Water Gun?
Sentret shot me a wild grin, almost loving the pain, panting but determined. “N-Now you’re getting it! Let’s finish this Seviper off!”
"Go! Go! Go!" Happiny shouted from the tree hollow.
But Seviper wasn’t done yet. Its gaze burned with fury as it locked onto me.
And now, I was its target.

Hey everyone! Thanks for reading these edited chapters fully combined in a single document. I didn't like some of the things I wrote before; they felt disjointed to everyone's characters. And I also added a little bit more past where chapter 7 left off to give it a more appropriate cutoff point. If there are any story beats you have questions about and/or want clarification on, let me know, and I'll edit this document to house new additions and changes to the story to reflect that. Chapter 8 and future chapters will be longer than most as we head into the full plot of the series at hand. Again, any Pokémon you want to see and plot points, let me know, and I'll do my best to include everything. It's great to be back, everyone!
