The Old Days
Rustling leaves fall from above, greens and browns, twigs and branches.
The tree gets older by the day, so does my life.
Poets write their words, singers sing their words with emotion.
Speakers talk their words out, full of anger or seriousness.
And me?
I forget my words, there for silent as the void in space.
"say a word" they say,
I cannot say not even a letter.
"talk louder" they say,
My talking is as quiet as a whisper.
"can't you say something?"
No.
My screams are as loud as my brain, yet you don't hear a thing.
I grow older, yet I barely change.
My body rots and decomposes day by day.
Cells change into new ones as the old ones get thrown away.
Yet I remain the same.
You ask me how I do,
I say "I'm fine" when theres an obvious mask on my face.
Yet you are too blind to see what it is.
I am fragile as a butterfly's wing,
Yet you shatter me like your mother's favored porcelain vase.
You don't seem to care, as you are blinder than the dark.
I'm cramping up, yet you're cracking up in laughter.
And here I am, shattered, silent and old.
You have decided to leave me,
I'm am happy, yet I miss you.
I miss the good times, when we would play pretend.
Imagination blasting out of us,
But I'm glad.
I'm glad you are no longer here.
You've hurt me enough,
Yet, may you rest in peace.
