Two step 'everything' updated quick guide
To get everything updated the easiest way I know I suggest a quick and easy process. Two steps. There are other methods to get updated other than this unquestionably. However, this method tends to prevent conflicts and avoid headaches.
Get all your custom firmware stuff updated. You can do this manually, but if you wish to get this done quickly or as a double check, a prepack is offered here. Use it to get all the custom firmware stuff updated before updating your actual firmware. So the firmware is supported, by the custom firmware stuff.
Updating your actual firmware. There are many ways to accomplish this, but in this quick example, the included Switch AIO updater will be used on the switch itself to download the firmware to apply directly without the need to connect to nintendo officially.
Sound easy enough? Hope so! Let's get started with those two steps.
- Easy prepack / clean install:
Prepack / clean install - does not effect your installed games or saves. Gets all the CFW stuff updated.
You need to get this done before proceeding to #2
AGAIN - before proceeding to update your actual firmware, you should update the custom firmware end of things so that it is supported. (Ie: #1 above does this. Do it first.)
- Proceed to update actual firmware:
If you are using a clean sysnand without any unofficial content installed you can simply connect to nintendo and use an official update. Otherwise to update firmware for an emunand or otherwise:
Use the included AIO updater to fetch and apply firmware. Again after the stuff in #1 is done. (
Link for those not using the prepack here.)
- Below each step is specifically laid out. You can click on any step for a screenshot to the that specific step or
- Review the animated image at the end of the guide to see the process in order first hand if things are still unclear.
AIO Firmware fetching:
(*can click steps for image examples):
- Load the Switch AIO Updater from the homebrew menu.
Note: It is suggested to run this with title override. IE: Holding R while launching a game title to load the homebrew menu not in applet mode.
- Select the download firmwares tab.
- Select a firmware to download.
- Allow it to download and extract.
- Once done and it asks "Do you want to launch Daybreak to install the downloaded sysupdate?" Select yes.
- Note: If you get a message about themes being installed and to please delete them first, do so or reference this if you have boot problems after updating.
Eventually this will continue to daybreak ➜
Daybreak after AIO firmware download:
- Once daybreak loads it will validate the firmware. Select continue.
- Select preserve settings.
- It's fine to install both drivers. Install (FAT32 + exFAT)
- Note: While it's fine to install both drivers.
You should only ever use fat32 as your SD format!
See here for more info.
- Select to continue when asked if you are sure you wish to proceed.
- Once done select the option to reboot.
