How to Type Fast (80+ WPM) in 30 days or less

This tutorial are for those who think typing fast is hard to do. I assure you, it is far from that. The exercises that will be presented to you can be easily done at the speed of a turtle. No part of this tutorial will even require you to even type fast intentionally. This will only be focusing on your accuracy and nothing else. You will notice a change in your typing speed without even needing to go super sonic on your keyboard. Now without further a do, let's put those fingers to work!

Where do I actually learn how to "type"?

You easily learn how to type by using https://typing.com and it is completely free. This will not only teach you how to type, but get you comfortable with your fingers on the home row (you will be taught what this is if you don't know already). However, once you get comfortable with using the home row, it is now time to move on to the next thing. I personally did not finish the entire typing.com tutorial, so I only recommend using it to get you familiar with how to type.

Where to practice typing?

This is where the real training begins. Now that you have gotten comfortable with the keyboard, it is time for you to start writing sentences. While typing.com did get you comfortable with typing on the keyboard, simply doing exercises with letters isn't going to get you typing 80 WPM. This is where https://keybr.com comes in. For the next 2 weeks, you will be using this site to level up your typing skills. Again, we will only be focused on accuracy and not your typing speed. So please take your time, even if it means typing at the speed of a turtle. I recommend doing this daily for 30 minutes. So if you want, you can click the upper-right corner of keybr to access the settings, and scroll down until you see daily goal and change it to 30 minutes. This is the most important thing to do if you really want to type fast. Also don't look down at your keyboard.

How will I know if I am typing faster?

Trust me, you will know. Using keybr.com has helped tremendously with my typing. I also played a lot of typing games (will be including the games below) whenever I had free time. You will notice a change in your typing when you're attempting to type slow. You will see that you are typing faster than usual without even trying. Suddenly, you went from typing 50 WPM (Words per minute) to 65 WPM just like that and it didn't take much effort for you to type at that speed. Then when you're actually trying, sure you might not always have the best accuracy, but you'll probably be typing close to 90 WPM all because your practice paid off. You will realize that typing fast is pretty much reading ahead of what you type.

How can I make typing more fun?

Simply by playing typing games. You can do this after completing your daily goal on keybr if you want to do more typing. However, I do not recommend playing typing games if you are not yet comfortable with typing. This is only for when you used typing.com to help you get comfortable on the home row (which I talk about above). Whenever you are bored and have some free time, you can just play any of the games I have listed below.

Disclaimer: DO NOT FEEL PRESSURED TO TYPE FAST! You can still type like a turtle when playing these games and as stated for typing practice, I highly recommend playing typing games that focus on writing full sentences.

Last but not least, learn keyboard shortcuts!!!

This will save you so much time. Who has time to be holding backspace just to remove a whole line of text. Sure, you can just press Ctrl + A (Cmd + A on Mac) to select all of it, but what if you just want to clear one line? Easy, you just press Ctrl + Backspace (Cmd + Delete) to clear that entire line, so no more holding backspace to clear a long url. Another one that will come in handy, is pressing Alt + Backspace (Option + Backspace) to simply clear a word. That may not seem like much but it helps when you don't have to spam backspace just to clear a 15 character word. There are so many shortcuts you can learn and my advice would be to learn as many as you can to save yourself time! Even if you decide that you don't want to type fast anymore, you won't leave this guide empty-handed if you at least start using keyboard shortcuts.
