How to Setup Voicemeeter For W-Okada

In this guide I will be explaining how to install and setup Voicemeeter and how to add VST's (effects), to make your voice sound more convincing.

This guide was last updated on 7/27/2024.

Are There Alternatives to Voicemeeter?

More alternatives will be added as I become aware of more alternatives.

Feel free to let me know of alternatives so I can add them to this list.

Wave Link by Elgato. This is only compatible with Elgato products such as: Wave:3, Wave Neo, Wave XLR, XLR Dock, Stream Deck +, Wave:1. Wave link is VST compatible. It is most likely possible to get Wave link to work with non-Elgato products but I am unaware of how to do that.

Installing Voicemeeter

Go here and download Voicemeeter (You can either install Voicemeeter Banana or Potato. I will be using Banana in this guide). Scroll down till you see this:

Then click "Download" and unzip it once its downloaded.
Then run the .exe inside.

Once you run it you should get this popup.

Just click install (It says remove for me because I already have it installed.) then once its done downloading you should reboot your computer. Then you're done.

Installing a Virtual Audio Cable

This VAC (Virtual audio cable) is what you will need to use the voice changer in games / discord.

  • Run setup64 after extracting the zip
  • After installing the Virtual Cable, it changes your default audio system. Click on Yes when it asks you to open the audio device settings, and change your Recording and Playback devices back to your normal microphone and normal headphones.

Installing Light Host

Light host Is what we will be using to add the VST's (effects) to the voice. Once you click the hyperlink it will take you to github where you will see this:
Alt tag
Download 'Light.host1.2.1.Win64.zip' and extract it.
Once you have done that run 'Light Host.exe' and it should install without any problems.

How to Add Effects (VST's)

The more plugins you add the more of a delay there will be. So be careful on how many plugins you add.

This is where the fun begins. First you will need some VST's, you can find plenty of free ones at Kilohearts Website I personally use their Bitcrush and Filter (to make it sound like the voice is coming through a real mic) but you can use whatever VST's you want.
To actually add them you need to open Light Host and click "Edit Plugins"
img
Then go down to options, click it and then click scan for VST or VST3 plugins
img
Then it should compile a list of all your plugins. At that point you can close that menu, reopen Light Host and there should be a "Available Plugins" section. Just click plugin and it should open a sub-menu where you can add plugins.
To edit them click on the plugin then click 'Edit'
img
Once you do that it will open a menu where you can edit the VST.

How to Add Background Noise

So you want to make your voice sound even more believable, well you're going to need to add some background noise like a loud fan, white noise, buzzing or your own room noise.
First you are going to need noise you can get those at freesound or just record your own room noise using Audacity.
Once you gotten the noise you want you are going to need to open "Windows Media Player" then drag the audio you downloaded into it. Then you are going to need to go into windows "Sound Settings" then "Advanced sound options"
img
Then scroll till you see "Windows Media Player" and set its output to "Voicemeeter AUX Input"
img
Then go back in "Windows Media Player" and play your noise. Don't forget to turn on repeat so it doesn't randomly stop.
