What is Magical thinking?
.
Magical thinking involves the belief that you can influence real-world events with certain actions or rituals. It’s not necessarily a cause for concern, but it can cause distress for some people. It's common in OCD, Psychosis, Anxiety, and Schizophrenic disorders. Some might have the belief that certain actions and/or rituals effect what will happen (ex: wearing a lucky item of clothing, skipping the 13th floor or room number in building design, knocking on wood to prevent misfortune), superstitions (ex: breaking a mirror will cause 7 years of bad luck , bad things come in threes.), or associations (ex: restarting your phone will make that text you’ve been waiting for show up, your old car will finally, finally start, if you just beg it hard enough.) it could also be believing you have magical abilities (ex: being all-knowing, telling the future, etc). It can have benefits like comfort, optimism along with downsides like stress and lack of concentration. It can appear different in different disorders (for OCD it may be more of the rituals, while in Schizo-spec & psychosis disorders they might believe they have power beliefs and associations, and in Anxiety it may be more superstitions. Although anyone can experience any of these)
