THE ISLAMIC DILEMMA

Surah 29:46

We believe in what has been revealed to us and in what has been revealed to you. Our God and your God is one, and to Him we submit.

The Muslim will claim that he actually doesn't believe in the Bible, because it's been corrupted by men.

Now, the Bible says that God is a Trinity (Matthew 28:19), the Son entered creation as Jesus (John 1:1-14), Jesus died on the cross for our sins (Mark 10:32-34, 10:45) and that He rose from the dead (Luke 24). The Quran denies all of this. So the Muslim can't say that he believes in the Bible or that Allah and the God of the Bible are one and the same. They HAVE to reject the Bible, because it contradicts the Quran.

But the Muslim has a problem here. The Quran says that the Torah and the Gospel were revealed by Allah, according to:

Surah 3:3-4 (Surah 2:85 uses the same language for the Quran)

He has revealed to you the Book with truth, verifying that which is before it, and He revealed the Torah and the Gospel aforetime, a guidance for the people, and He sent the Quran.

So the Muslim will say that Allah didn't protect the Gospel and the Torah and that both revelations were corrupted by men. So what Allah sent to guide people ended up... misguiding people?

But okay, wait. The Quran itself says that no-one can change God's words:

Surah 18:27

And recite what has been revealed to you of the book of your Lord. There is none who can change His words; and you shall not find any refuge besides Him.

So the Muslim will have to say that this verse only means that no-one can change the Quran. But the verse doesn't say that no-one can change the Quran - it says that no-one can change Allah's words. And the Torah and the Gospel, according to the Quran, are Allah's words.

Despite Allah clearly declaring that no-one can change His words, the Muslim will still likely claim that the Gospel was corrupted by, for example, Paul, or some later Christians. But, if the Gospel was corrupted, why would the Quran say that the Christians still had the Gospel during the time of Mohammad?

Surah 7:157

Those who follow the messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own [Scriptures] - in the Torah and the Gospel - ... it is they who will prosper.

How could Christians find Mohammad in the Gospel when the Gospel was supposedly corrupted centuries earlier? Is Allah saying that we find the prophet mentioned in our corrupted Scriptures? Also, we don't find Mohammad mentioned in our scriptures at all, except as part of a general warning against false prophets; and if we did find Mohammad mentioned in the Scriptures, how are we supposed to know that that isn't one of the corrupted parts? And since our Scriptures contradict Islam, why would Allah mention them as evidence for it?

But, Allah goes much further than this.

Surah 5:47

Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah had revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by [the light of] what Allah had revealed, they are [no better than] those who rebel.

Why would Allah command to judge by a corrupt book? The only Gospel we have contradicts Islam, so in order to obey Allah's command, we would have to judge by the Gospel and conclude that Islam is false.

Allah continues, in:

Surah 5:68

Say: "O people of the Book! You have no ground to stand upon unless you stand fast by the Torah, the Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord."

Why would Allah command us to stand upon a corrupt book? If the Gospel has been corrupted, wouldn't Allah just tell us to, I don't know, get rid of it, and only believe in the Quran?

So the Quran clearly maintains that the Gospel is authoritative for Christians, and this only makes sense if the author of the Quran believed that the Christians had the word of God. But the Gospel wasn't just authoritative for the Christians, it was also authoritative for Mohammad himself, and therefore, for Muslims.

One day, Mohammad started having doubts about his revelations. So, Allah commanded him to go to the people of the Book, Jews and Christians, for confirmations.

Surah 10:94

But if you, [O Mohammad] are in doubt as to what We have revealed to you, ask those who have read the Book before you; certainly the truth has come to you from your Lord, therefore you should not be of the disputers.

Since the Bible contradicts the Quran, the Muslim will maintain that the Bible must be rejected. But in the Quran, it's exactly the opposite - The Bible stands over the Quran, and Mohammad himself could only confirm his revelations by checking to see if it lines up with the Book.

Since Mohammad continued to preach Islam, he apparently never took Allah's words here very seriously - if he had gone to Jews and Christians for confirmation, he would've been forced to reject the Quran.

But now the Muslim will be forced to claim that, when Muhammad mentions the Gospel, he only means the teachings of Jesus, not the books that Christians read. This doesn't hold up because, among other reasons, Allah tells Muhammad to go ask Jews and Christians ("those who have read the Book"), and because of the following verse:

Surah 4:47

O you who were given the Book! Believe in what We have revealed—confirming your own Scriptures—before We wipe out your faces, turning them backwards, or We condemn the defiant as We did to the Sabbath-breakers. And Allah’s command is always executed!

Surah 2:40-44

O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and fulfill My covenant [upon you] that I will fulfill your covenant [from Me], and be afraid of [only] Me.
And believe in what I have sent down confirming that which is [already] with you, and be not the first to disbelieve in it. And do not exchange My signs for a small price, and fear [only] Me.
And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it].
And establish prayer and give zakāh and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience].
Do you order righteousness of the people and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Then will you not reason?

Surah 2:89

And when there came to them a Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] from Allāh confirming that which was with them - although before they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieved - but [then] when there came to them that which they recognized, they disbelieved in it; so the curse of Allāh will be upon the disbelievers.

Surah 2:101

And when a messenger from Allāh came to them confirming that which was with them, a party of those who had been given the Scripture threw the Scripture of Allāh [i.e., the Torah] behind their backs as if they did not know [what it contained].

Again, Allah confirms our Scriptures!

So, the Quran puts the Muslim in an inescapable dilemma: either Christians have the inspired, preserved and authoritative word of God, or we don't. No third option.

If we have the inspired, preserved and authoritative word of God, Islam is false, because it contradicts what we have.
If we don't have the inspired, preserved and authoritative word of God, Islam is false, because the Quran affirms the inspiration, preservation and authority of our Book.

So let's repeat:
If the Gospel is the word of God, Islam is false.
If the Gospel is not the word of God, Islam is false.

Islam self destructs.
