A11yProof - Privacy policy
A11yProof browser extension. Last updated 22 September 2026.
The short version
A11yProof does not collect, transmit or store any of your data on any server. There is no account, no telemetry and no analytics. Everything the extension does happens inside your browser, on your machine.
What the extension reads
When you press Run audit, the extension runs the axe-core rules engine against the page open in your active tab. It reads that page's rendered DOM and computed styles in order to test it, and records the page title, its URL, and the HTML fragments of the elements that failed a rule, so they can appear in the report. That information stays in the browser tab and in the report file you export. It is never sent anywhere.
What the extension stores
The extension stores your own settings on your device, in Chrome's local extension storage: report language, chosen standard, agency name, accent colour, logo image, and a local count of reports exported today. Removing the extension erases all of it.
Network requests
The extension makes no network requests during an audit. The rules engine and all translations are bundled inside the extension package; nothing is fetched or executed from a remote source. The only case in which the extension contacts a server is if you voluntarily enter a licence key, which is sent to the payment provider solely to verify that key.
Data sharing
No data is sold, transferred or shared with anyone, because none is collected.
Permissions, and why each one exists
- activeTab: to run the audit against the page you have chosen to test.
- scripting: the rules engine has to execute in the page context to inspect the rendered DOM.
- storage: to keep your settings on your device.
- sidePanel: to show the audit interface beside the page under test.
- Optional site access: requested only if you open the panel without invoking the toolbar icon, so the audit can still run.
Children
A11yProof is a professional tool and is not directed at children.
