Rejecting Modernity: Adobe Kinda Just Sucks, To Be Honest

V

I do not like Adobe, and a lot of you reading these guys probably don't either.

From their dumb price hikes, to the over implementation of AI, to discontinuing pieces of software so essentially it can outright kill any industry, Adobe has gone down a downwards spiral of dumb decisions, spiteful actions, and greedy subscriptions.

But why should I be the one to make the guide for Adobe, when two other people (and an entire team updating all of these for me) can do the job JUST as nicely as I can. You might recognize Bruhity, for having co-written the Degoogle guide, but you might not recognize Ruri, but don't worry, she and Bruhity are both tech geeks, so you are in great hands with this guide.

With that being said, I shall give these two the microphone and let them explain the ropes, as well as replacing any Adobe products with a similar alternative! Take it away, you two!

Bruhity's Overall Opinions on Adobe

think of Adobe like how you think of Autodesk, Adobe clearly doesn't prioritize Consumers, Especially Hobbyist Artists or YouTubers, but rather enterprise users and/or businesses; hence why you see alot of Outrageous Prices for their Software, not to mention the Cancellation Fees and AI Features.

I wouldn't recommend you beg your boss to switch to these, Vivi obviously would call me a pussy and say otherwise, it's best you keep shut and be a good boy to your boss if it means you get to feed yourself, unless layoffs hit you, oh this economy.

Highlights

Photoshop

B

if you want a FOSS Alternative, I suggest Krita or Gimp, Gimp is Primarily an Image Manipulation Program, whereas Krita is Primarily an Professional Art Program. to all their own, Gimp used to be really sucky before 3.0/2.99, so much so that it really wasn't as good as Photoshop, but nowadays it has really gotten alot better at its job. Krita is KDE Org's Professional where you can draw anything in either traditional or vector formats.

If you want just a Free as in Price Alternative, I recommend the Affinity Suite, Vivienne may not like this due to the fact it has AI Features (Vivi Note: as much as it goes against the boycotting generative ai guide, honestly anything is better than adobe. it's honestly a good alternative), but it allows for a Unified Experience of Image Manipulation, Vector Drawing, and Video Editing as far as I'm concerned, not to mention, it's free! The AI Features are paid monthly.

All appilcations are Available Across all Desktop OSes, Unlike Adobe, they still insist on not supporting linux despite this support post existing on their website

Premiere Pro

B

Davinci Resolve is really the only actually free alternative, it doesn't have subscriptions, but it may require time to get used to, like with most professional software.

it works on all platforms, too

Premiere Rush

B

Get a modded version of Kinemaster or Alightmotion or any editing app, Preferably a Newer Version. or pay for them if you don't wanna go that mile and let your phone potentially catch Digital STDs.

Illustrator

B

Try out Inkscape, or Krita, Again. Inkscape is a program mainly made for Vector Design, it isn't really stable but it's versatile enough to be a daily driver. it is supported on all platforms and it is FOSS.

Xd

B

you could use inkscape... or try out figma (Vivi Note: afaik, figma also has AI features though i think it's seperate from the main thing), which I don't really like because it's a Web App, but hey, Pick your Poison, do you want to be a Universal Windows App stuck in Windows for eternity or do you want to be a web app unnecessarily hogging resources for no reason?

Figma does have more features than Xd, to be frank. and it is supported on all desktop platforms.

There is also Evolus Pencil, but that program's pretty outdated
