⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀jp ru en & learning ainu-itak *
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀* I have felt separated from my culture for
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ages. Be it online or in real life, it's very
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀uncommon to come across somebody who
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀is native japanese as well, let alone ainu.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Growing up I was shielded from anything
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ainu, and that part of me was looked down
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀on as a "lesser" culture, especially by my
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀own family. My grandmother, the family
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀member who passed down my ainu genes,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀was not allowed to share things of her
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀culture with me. It saddens me deeply
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀to think that I am not in touch with that
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀part of myself, and so I have chosen to
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀attempt learning ainu-itak. This is a sort
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀of reclamation of the culture I was denied,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀and an attempt to reestablish myself and
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀my heritage.
