an unfavourable circumstance.

HiMERU and makao are stuck together for a while.

the door was stuck. well, that's what HiMERU and makao had both inferred, considering the way the door didn't budge one inch when they pulled it. makao was quick to reach for his phone, only to realise he had left it in his bag, and HiMERU had claimed his was dead. odd, considering it was usually always fully charged, but it was pretty late in the evening regardless.

the awkwardness within the situation was only furthered by how close they were, as the room was less of a room and more of just a cupboard. makao had slunk down the wall, sitting with his knees pressed to his chest. soft teal bangs fell over his eyes, and he looked almost peaceful. his breathing was slow, controlled, and it was like he was asleep. HiMERU wanted to run his fingers through it. to yank it and send him sprawling to the floor, of course. nothing tender about that.

kazehaya makao, what a name to have. his brother's name preceded him. if he wasn't a saint too, it would paint a stain on both their reputations. HiMERU liked that. times like this, where it was just the both of them, he could understand more of what was behind the mask. to chip underneath. to see makao for his true self. it meant HiMERU had to reveal more of 'himself' too, but he knew makao wouldn't tell anyone. that form of one-sided trust mixed with HiMERU's hate was their relationship.

HiMERU tipped his head back, leaning against the wall. makao remained curled up in the corner, and HiMERU wanted to touch him. just to gain his attention a little, for them to actually figure out a solution for this damned situation. he didn't though, instead simply narrowing his eyes onto him. there was a much more accentuated height difference, and HiMERU felt like he looked like he was glaring at makao. it wasn't the intention, but it was a bit of an added bonus.

makao shifted a little, before looking up. he looked half asleep at first, but shrunk back as he met HiMERU's gaze. the gazed look in his eyes became one of slight panic, and he looked down as he turned away, pressing one of his shoulders to the wall to face away from the door.

he was oddly silent. that was the main thing HiMERU noticed. maybe the act of intimidation wasn't as effective as he had liked; makao had become much more closed off. he wanted to get under makao's skin, unravel him just a little more, and all he did was push him away. he sighed, squatting down next to makao and tipping his chin up gently.

makao looked positively terrified as HiMERU glanced over him, tensing up as a hand was laid on his knee. HiMERU slowly knelt, keeping makao within his fingers to stop him from looking away. makao swallowed thickly, stuck backed up into the corner.

"...why are you trying to run from HiMERU? HiMERU assumed we were closer than acquaintances." his voice was low, almost barely audible, and makao attempted to draw his knees closer. they were pushed back down, and he made a small noise of protest. it was cute, but HiMERU would never admit that.

makao's voice was small as he spoke. "i assumed you wouldn't want to talk to me, and your staring didn't help either..." HiMERU sighed and removed his hands, leaning back to stretch his legs out. his feet dug underneath the other's, but makao just curled further into himself to avoid the contact. the room was getting colder, and the chill was starting to get to him too. makao pulled the dark blue of his sweater over his hands, huddling more into himself. he looked pathetic, in HiMERU's opinion. he reached out a hand to makao, gesturing for him to come closer. makao sighed, curling up just a little more, and shook his head.

"HiMERU believes it may get colder. it would be best if you were to cooperate with him, at least for now." HiMERU's voice was louder than intended within the small room, but it worked well enough. makao reluctantly sat next to HiMERU, trying his best to limit their contact. HiMERU said nothing, instead wrapping an arm around his waist to place makao in the space between his legs. he leaned back against the wall, leaving makao to do as he pleased. if he wanted to, he could stand up and leave HiMERU's embrace. there was nothing stopping him.

yet, makao relaxed just a little, leaning back onto HiMERU's chest and slowing his breathing. makao was warmer that HiMERU expected, and HiMERU had to resist the urge to draw him closer. he was a typically cold person, hence why the temperature didn't affect him much, but it didn't mean he didn't like warmth like this. in fact, he rather enjoyed it.

this kind of intimacy was odd. wrong. yet it felt like it was normal, like two halves coming together.. no, that was far too poetic. HiMERU just wanted to make the best of the situation. that was definitely the reason he enclosed makao a little more into his embrace. an arm around his waist lightly, just to make HiMERU feel a little more of that warmth. it was even colder now, or at least felt that way.

makao's head tilted forward slightly, a sign he was asleep. HiMERU smiled, just a little, drawing him closer. this was true trust, he thought. he could easily harm makao like this, stamp him out of existence, slap that stupid look of content off his face. but he didn't. he liked having that trust from makao. the threat of HiMERU being able to do whatever he wanted was always there, and makao just allowed himself to be defenceless around him.

he pressed a light kiss to the back of makao's neck, moving him just a little more into his lap before relaxing. in truth, they were as vulnerable to each other here as they could be. HiMERU slowly shut his eyes, feeling just a little more of makao's warmth as he laid his chin on his shoulder. nobody had to know what happened in that room.

HiMERU woke up before makao. he shifted a little, removing his jacket and placing it over makao before standing up. he seemed like a deep sleeper; the movement of being rolled off HiMERU didn't make much of a difference to his state. the thought of kicking makao crossed his mind briefly, just to test that theory, but he retracted his foot slightly. he wouldn't want to bruise any part of that expanse of smooth skin; it would cause a scandal.

HiMERU crossed his legs over, resting one foot against the door, but he stumbled slightly as he felt it give way a little. oh, they were idiots, weren't they? it was a push door; they weren't actually locked in here.

he pushed the door just a little more, then let out a light chuckle. it was so ridiculous they had spent so long in a room that could have been opened with a little critical thinking. glancing over at makao's sleeping form, HiMERU resigned himself to taking his jacket back and seeing if any further measures had to be taken. however, it seemed the drop in temperature was enough. makao slowly sat up, rubbing his eyes as HiMERU slipped his coat back on. it was still warm. comforting.

taking his phone out of his pocket, it didn't surprise HiMERU to see the battery had finally died. he sighed, watching makao's sleep-ridden form drag itself up and lean back on the wall. he wiped the sleep out of his eyes, glancing up at HiMERU.

"HiMERU has made a realisation.", he muttered quietly. HiMERU pushed his foot against the door, allowing it to open slightly. makao looked at him incredulously for a second, pushing against the door with his hand too. it opened. he scoffed lightly, and turned to HiMERU.

".. you're telling me we stayed in here overnight, in the cold, because neither of us figured out it was a push door?" he was met with a slow nod, and hid his giggle with his hand as he pushed on the door again.

"sometimes i do wonder how people call you a detective, you know?"
