archiveLink — Privacy Policy
Effective: 2 November 2026. Applies to extension version 1.0.1.
archiveLink opens the newest available archive.today copy of the webpage you are viewing. It is an independent extension and is not affiliated with archive.today.
Information used
When you click the toolbar icon, archiveLink reads the current tab URL and opens https://archive.is/newest/ followed by that URL in the same tab. Archive.is is an archive.today mirror. The URL is sent to that service to look for an existing snapshot. Query parameters are preserved; the fragment beginning with # is removed. URLs containing an embedded username or password are rejected.
URLs and query parameters can contain personal information or access tokens. Only use archiveLink on URLs you wish to send to archive.today. The extension does not automatically submit pages for archiving.
Storage and collection
archiveLink does not store URLs, browsing history, page contents, or personal profiles. It uses no analytics, advertisements, or developer-operated data collection server. It does not read page content, forms, passwords, or cookies, and does not monitor browsing in the background.
Third-party service
Opening the lookup is normal browser navigation. Archive.today and its mirrors may receive the requested URL, your IP address, browser information, and any cookies your browser sends to the service. The archive service controls its own data practices, retention, verification checks, availability, and snapshots. archiveLink does not control those practices.
Permission and purpose limits
The activeTab permission provides temporary access to the current tab following your toolbar click. archiveLink uses this to read the URL for the archive lookup. It does not sell user data, transfer it for unrelated purposes, or use it for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending decisions. Its use of information adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: https://developer.chrome.com/docs/webstore/program-policies/user-data-faq
Your choices
Only click the icon when you want to send the current URL to the archive service. You can return using Chrome’s Back button or remove the extension through Chrome’s Extensions page. There is no extension-held browsing log to delete. Requests about data held by the archive service must be directed to that service.
Policy hosting, updates, and contact
This policy is hosted by Rentry. Its hosting and data practices apply to visits to this page separately from the extension. This policy will be updated if the extension’s practices change. For extension questions, use the publisher contact details on archiveLink’s Chrome Web Store listing.
