So you wanna learn about ASPD? YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!!!
Let’s start with the basics; what does ‘anti-social’ even mean?
Anti-social just meaning against society. Most normal people in the world are pro-social meaning exactly what it sounds like (being for society). Anti-social = doing things that go against the betterment of society. This manifests as violating social norms, being manipulative, deceptive, lacking in empathy, remorse, guilt, shame, embarrassment, fear, disregarding the social constructs of society, disregarding boundaries and feelings of others, disregarding your own personal safety and other people’s safety, disregarding laws and rules. Anyone can have anti-social traits; the only way it becomes ASPD(anti-social personality disorder) is if you meet the criteria. So anyone can be anti-social without ASPD.
Examples of anti-social behaviour: Stealing, Lying, Manipulating, Deceiving someone, etc etc.
So.. what is ASPD?
ASPD is a personality disorder that affects and hijacks your personality (just like any other personality disorder.) most of the time in media we are portrayed as super villains or something when that just isn’t true. Most of us are just heavily traumatized. I feel like I explained a lot about being anti-social above. It’s basically just that but a disorder. Help i forgot what i was gonna write here ermm..
What’re the symptoms of ASPD?
-The disregard of others and of yourself
-Being anti-society (anti laws, social norms, the feelings/boundaries/rights/concerns of other people, etc)
-Failure to obey laws (This can be rule breaking it doesn’t always have to be a criminal thing.)
-Have to show antisocial traits before the age of 15
-Lying and deceiving
The list goes on
Do with with ASPD have a “favorite person” like people with BPD?
Yes we do. Those are called our “Exception”. I don’t know where the term originated from but anti-socials are most often hostile to the general population. We don’t really like people. Even though we don’t really like people and that we don’t really have a connection to many people. This sounds really bad but most with ASPD don’t really care about your wants, your needs, etc unless it’s relevant to us/what we want. We don’t have empathy for you and we don’t really care for you. Now, that’s where the exception comes into play. This is a person(or people) who is the exception to that rule. They’re the person we’re not indifferent towards, they’re the person who we love deeply. We care about them and are incredibly loyal to them. We would sacrifice anything if it means keeping our exception safe. They’re always going to be our first choice. We are going to try to get out of our normal way of thinking for them which is about me, what i need & what i want to bring them into what we’re doing and make sure they’re taken care of and loved and etc etc. Some people with ASPD might feel more emotions that they don’t normally feel with anyone else. They’re someone we have a genuine connection to.
Do people with ASPD have a moral code?
I get asked this question a lot because pwASPD often times can’t separate right from wrong and will do whatever to get what they want. The end always justifies the means. Anyway to answer the question, most times yes. My moral code works way differently than most though. I do have like a line of which I won’t cross which is either just things that have been done to me or that I’ve done to others that I just don't want to go there. My thought process is “no matter what it takes to get there, as long as I’m there
