N64/B3313 Texture Ripping Guide

This is a guide largely adapted from Shade's guide on the VG Resource forums, updated with working images and any little additions I might have. Most of the credit for the guide goes to them.

What you need

Plugin Installation

  • Place RiceVideo.dll and RiceVideo6.1.0.ini from the RiceVideoPlugin zip into PJ64's graphics plugin folder.
RiceVideo.dll and RiceVideo6.1.0.ini in the PJ64 plugin folder.
  • Then, place BMGLibPNG.dll in the base PJ64 folder.
BMGLibPNG.dll in the PJ64 root folder.
  • Once the files are in place, open PJ64 and switch your graphics plugin to Rice's Video Plugin 6.1.0.
The PJ64 plugins screen, with Rice's Video Plugin 6.1.0 selected.
And the plugin is fully installed! Exit the settings and open your ROM of choice.

Ripping Textures

  • Play your game up until the texture you want to rip is on-screen. In this case I'll be ripping the textures from B3313's Castle Grounds.
  • When your target texture is on-screen, open your graphics settings...
The PJ64 options tab open, with the graphics settings highlighted.
  • Uncheck the "Hide Advanced Options" box in the General Options tab.
The RiceVideoPlugin settings, with the Hide Advanced Options box highlighted and unchecked.
  • Then, switch to the Texture Filters tab and check the "Dump textures to files" box.
The Texture Filters tab with the "Dump textures to files" box highlighted and checked.
  • Finally, give it a sec to dump the textures and check your graphics plugin folder for a new folder named "texture_dump." It should have a subfolder named after your game, which will contain all of the textures the plugin managed to dump.
A folder containing dumped textures from B3313.
Congratulations! You now have your textures!

Addendum

It's worth mentioning that there are other methods to dump N64 textures. I hear the GLideN64 plugin can dump textures, but I haven't managed to get that working on ParallelN64. Perhaps it's because Parallel Launcher overrides the RetroArch settings...?
Anyway, please let me know if there's anything I can do to make this guide easier to understand!
