Discouraged/“Quiet” (Theodore Millon) Pliant, submissive, loyal, humble; feels vulnerable and in constant jeopardy; feels hopeless, depressed, helpless, and powerless.
Petulant (Theodore Millon) Negativistic, impatient, restless, as well as stubborn, defiant, sullen, pessimistic, and resentful; easily feels "slighted" and quickly disillusioned.
Impulsive (Theodore Millon, Oldham) Captivating, capricious, superficial, flighty, distractable, frenetic, and seductive; fearing loss, the individual becomes agitated; gloomy and irritable; and potentially suicidal.
Self-Destructive (Theodore Millon) Inward-turning, intropunitive (self-punishing), angry; conforming, deferential, and ingratiating behaviors have deteriorated; increasingly high-strung and moody; possible suicide.
Affective (Oldham) Rapidly shifting between different emotional states, usually involving a negative emotion such as anxiety, depression, or anger.
Aggressive (Oldham) Will take their emotional dysregulation out on others in ways that appear aggressive or with higher intensity than the situation seems to warrant, quick to pick fights with others or become irritable and defensive.
Dependent (Oldham) Fearing being alone, appearing “clingy,” such as texting a lot or wanting to hang out all the time, being overly agreeable to avoid making others upset, having trouble setting boundaries, ending a relationship early to avoid the risk of being abandoned
Empty (Oldham) Primarily struggle with unstable self-image and feelings of emptiness, feel like they don’t know who they are, and frequently experience dissociation.
Core (Maaike Smits) Symptom severity, relational problems, disorganized attachment style, instable identity with no correlation to other (personality) disorders.
Extravert/Externalizing (Maaike Smits) Exhibit a “dominant, self-centered style”, Have trouble adjusting to social norms, be more avoidant in relationships compared to the other types.
Paranoid (Maaike Smits) Socially isolate themselves, lack a desire to feel close to people, mistrust others, have high levels of attachment anxiety, highly common with people who also have comorbid schizotypal and/or paranoid personality disorders.
