What are Schedules? Schedules in Pharmacology is the rankings of medication. As of 2024, there are 7 rankings:
- OTC : Over The Counter; medicine you can buy in stores. Most well known is Tylenol.
- Legend : Medications given by doctor prescription.
- I: High potential of abuse, no medical uses for treatments. Ex. Heroin, Marijuana (controversial), LSD.
- II: High potential of abuse or severe psychological problems/dependence. However it's accepted as a medical use. Ex. Fentanyl, morphine, opioids.
- III: Abuse potential is lower, dependence is lower. Ex: < 90 grams of codeine.
- IV: Abuse is less than III but more than V. Ex. Xanex, Darvon
- V: Less abuse and dependence from IV. Ex. Cough medicines with codeine
