hitari and rida had been best friends for as long as they could remember. the two had always been inseparable, spending lazy summer afternoons in the park, or sneaking out to watch scary movies when they were supposed to be asleep. but nothing could have prepared rida for the darkness that would consume her friend.

it began with a strange feeling. hitari felt hungry—no, starving—in a way she never had before. it wasn’t just her stomach growling; it was something deeper, something primal. at first, she chalked it up to stress. she’d been feeling tired lately, stretched thin with school and family problems. a snack would help, she thought. but after the first few chips, the gnawing emptiness only grew worse.

the hunger burned. it twisted inside her gut, turning every breath into a sharp, painful need. she’d ignore it, try to distract herself, but nothing helped. not food, not sleep, not even talking to rida.

one afternoon, hitari invited rida over to her house, desperate for company. the house was empty, her parents out on a business trip, and the silence felt suffocating. she sat on the couch, eyes fixed on the half-empty bag of chips on the coffee table, but the hunger wouldn’t relent.

"hey, you okay?" rida asked, sitting beside her.

hitari nodded but didn’t say anything. she couldn’t explain it. how could she? how could she tell her best friend that she felt as if she were being eaten from the inside out? that every part of her wanted to tear into something, to consume, to devour?

"i’m just hungry," hitari muttered, her voice strained.

rida frowned. "you ate earlier. a snack, right?"

"yeah, but… it’s not enough."

ridas expression softened. she gently reached for hitaris hand, her voice quiet. "maybe you should see a doctor. that sounds… weird, tartar."

but hitari shook her head. "no, i just… i just need something more. please, don’t leave me."

rida hesitated, then squeezed her hand. "i’ll stay, okay? just… let me know if you want to talk about it."

the night wore on, but hitari felt the hunger growing, an insatiable, gnawing thing that wouldn’t stop. her thoughts turned dark, twisted, and raw. the smell of ridas perfume, the soft sound of her breathing, the pale skin of her neck—everything about her seemed so… alive.

hitaris vision blurred, her fingers trembling. she couldn’t think. she didn’t want to think. the hunger screamed in her chest, drowning out reason. she tried to breathe, to hold herself together, but it was useless.

it was a whisper at first, a quiet voice that urged her to do something, anything. but soon it became a demand. a scream. a primal need.

she needed to eat. she needed this.

rida looked at hitari, concern deepening in her eyes. "hitari? are you—"

without warning, hitari lunged, her hands gripping ridas shoulders with an inhuman strength. ridas scream tore through the room as hitaris mouth pressed against her neck, teeth sinking into soft flesh.

at first, it was like a reflex—just hunger, blind, uncontrollable. but then, as the taste of blood filled her mouth, something inside hitari snapped. the hunger roared within her, louder than her thoughts, louder than her remorse.

rida struggled, pushing against hitaris chest, but she was too weak, too stunned. the more rida fought, the more her friends hunger deepened. it was insatiable, maddening. she tore into her friend with wild desperation, unable to stop, unable to think.

the room grew cold. the taste of blood—thick, metallic—saturated hitaris senses, the feeling her hunger had been screaming about for the past week. she could feel ridas heartbeat slowing, her body going limp beneath her.

but the hunger… it didn’t stop. it couldn’t stop.

when hitari finally pulled back, she was covered in blood. her hands, her mouth, her clothes—everything. and rida… rida was still, her eyes wide and vacant, her body unrecognizable.

hitari stood over her, panting, heart racing. her mind was a blur, a mess of guilt and horror, but the hunger still pulsed within her. it wasn’t done. it was never done.

she looked down at ridas lifeless form, her stomach still twisted in agony. there was no relief. only emptiness. only a voice inside her head that whispered, More. There’s always more.

the darkness that had overtaken her, the hunger, would never let go. it had only just begun.
