3ds CFW Tips and Links

Preparing Your SD Card

In order to get the most use out of Custom Firmware, I recommend getting a SD card of 32GB or larger.
Make sure to get the appropriate card size for your system!

SD card or MicroSD/MiniSD with an adaptor MicroSD only
Nintendo 3DS New Nintento 3Ds
Nintendo 3DS XL New Nintendo 3DS XL
Nintendo 2ds New Nintendo 2DS XL

Any SD card 32GB or under will usually be formatted to FAT32 (The file system 3ds consoles can read) by default. If you choose to go larger you will likely have to reformat it to FAT32 yourself. To do so, follow these steps:

Caution!

Formatting an SD card will wipe its data! If you are using an SD card with 3ds data aready on it, be sure to back up those files somewhere safe on your computer. Then, once you are finished formatting it, you can copy those files back onto your card before ejecting.

  1. Insert your SD card into your PC
  2. Open Windows File Explorer and right click on your SD card
  3. Click "Format"
  4. Click the "File System" drop down, and then select "FAT32"
  5. Select "Start", and close the menu once its finished
  6. If you have any files backed up, copy them back to the card

If you used backed up files/your 3ds was already set up, you can stop here!

  7. Eject your Sd card and insert it into your 3ds
  8. Run and set up the 3ds to generate the necessary files on your SD card

Installing Custom Firmware

Custom Firmware (CFW) is necessary to do anything else listed here.
In order to do this, follow the steps listed at 3ds.hacks.guide
It can seem complicated, but as long as you go through each step slowly, carefully and exactly it should go smoothly.
If you run into any issues, they have an FAQ page and a troubleshooting page

Once CFW is installed you can do a number of things, such as...

Installing Themes

Official Themes

Alternate source for official 3ds themes: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1obW1abuhABvLf3wmkt3cbptW_6OFmr_3

When installing themes from the google drive source, follow the eiphax guide for installing custom themes manually. However, make sure to extract the folder from the zipped folder, as otherwise the files are one layer too deep for Anemone to read.

Installing 3ds CIAs

While there are other places to obtain CIAs, many are riddled with viruses, so just use hshop ok?
