[A Burning Hill — Mitski]

The highlighted lyrics are what I am explaining as to why I chose this song and it's lyrics.

Today I will wear my white button-down
I'm tired of wanting more
I think I'm finally worn

Ralph in this final chapter is shown to be at his final straw. Not of being nice, but of running. Physically at least, as we see him pass out from exhaustion on the beach.

For you have a way of promising things
And I've been a forest fire
I am a forest fire
And I am the fire and I am the forest
And I am a witness watching it
I stand in a valley watching it
And you are not there at all

With these lines, you can connect it to the Ralph's lack luster guilt for the forest fire in the beginning and Ralph's standing instead of attempting to help with Simon's murder. Every big thing that has only shove them further down to savagery, Ralph does nothing but be witness to it.

So today I will wear my white button-down
I can at least be neat
Walk out and be seen as clean
And I'll go to work and I'll go to sleep
And I'll love the littler things
I'll love some littler things

When they finally get rescued by naval officers, Ralph bawls his eyes out and finally relishes in the fact that he's saved and will get to go home than let himself cave into the "kill or be killed" ideology.

I chose this song because of the sad conclusion it brings, with the losing of their innocence as a collective and they hope that they finally get to go home.
