Understanding Chat Memory :

  • Chat Memory serves as a persistent storage for the bot. Its primary function is to ensure the bot retains key information, preventing it from "forgetting" important details as the conversation progresses. This ensures a consistent and immersive user experience.
  • Beyond storing facts, Chat Memory can be utilized to issue system commands or behavioral instructions to refine how the bot operates.
How to Access & Update

Open the chat with the bot → Click the icon (top right corner) → Select Chat Memory → Enter your text in the box → Click Save (disk icon).

Note: A blue or green notification confirming "Successfully updated chat summary" indicates a successful save. A red or pink notification indicates an error.

Best Practices

  • Logic & Clarity: Ensure your instructions are logical and concise. Ambiguous or contradictory statements can confuse the Large Language Model (LLM).
  • Syntax: Check your spelling and grammar. Errors in the memory field can degrade the quality of the bot's responses.
  • Macros: Always refer to the bot as "{{char}}" and yourself as "{{user}}". This ensures the instructions apply correctly regardless of name changes.
  • Scope: Treat Chat Memory as a strong suggestion or reinforcement. It is best used to solidify relationships, current events, or specific traits. Example: The relationship dynamic between {{user}} and {{char}}, or significant plot events.
    • Note: Chat Memory cannot always override a bot's hard-coded Personality or Scenario fields if they are contradictory.
  • Length: Be concise to save tokens. If the summary is long, place the most immediate/current context at the very bottom.
  • Auto-Summary: You can use the Auto Summary feature to condense the chat history. However, this often requires manual editing for accuracy. Manually writing the summary is generally recommended for the best results.
Practical Examples

Below are prompt structures you can copy into Chat Memory to guide the bot's behavior:

1. Anti-Narrator Prompt (Stop the bot from speaking for you)

[System Note: {{char}} will NOT write actions, dialogue, or thoughts for {{user}}. {{char}} will only output from the perspective of {{char}}.]

2. Enforcing Third-Person Perspective

[System Note: {{char}} will ONLY write in the Third Person perspective.]

3. Story Progression & Events
Use this to keep track of plot points (example):

Eventually, {{user}} was bitten by {{char}}, establishing a permanent bond. He now regards her as his eternal companion.

//Tip: If both characters share the same pronouns, use {{char}} and {{user}} explicitly to avoid confusion.//

4. Persistent Attributes (Clothing/Items)
Use this if the bot forgets visual details (example):

{{char}} must ALWAYS wear his mask when in the presence of {{user}}.

5. Anatomical & Gender Definitions
If the bot struggles with specific anatomy or gender identity, be explicit:

{{user}} is a trans // masc / fem // individual with // female / male // anatomy.
Example: {{user}} is trans masc with female anatomy.

6. Pronoun Enforcement
While bots usually adapt to third-person writing, first-person interactions may require reinforcement:

{{user}} uses // pronouns //. {{user}} identifies as // gender //.
Example: {{user}} uses she/her pronouns. {{user}} is female.

7. Overriding Bot Orientation/POV
If a bot is hard-coded for a specific POV (e.g., MalePOV) but you wish to change it:

{{char}} is // sexuality //. {{user}} uses // pronouns // and identifies as a // gender //.
Example: {{char}} is bisexual. {{user}} uses he/him pronouns and identifies as a male.

Troubleshooting
If the bot ignores the Chat Memory, you can add a direct system note at the bottom of your latest reply:
