About the subscriptions
Free tier ?
Yes, there is a free tier, and a free model. Well, free models - as in plural. The free tier is used as testing grounds for models that might end up in one of the paid tier.
There are often multiple models in testing at the same time, you can get any one during your chatting.
The models currently in testing may change at any moment. Since there are multiple models, it means the quality can change.
The models in testing are undisclosed to avoid bias from the popularity of some models.
However, all free models have a context size of 8196 tokens, and 300 free generations per day. For more generations, you need to subscribe.
300 credits per day, reset at midnight EST. No, they don't stack. It's 300 credits, full stop (again, if you don't have a subscription). 1 credit = 1 message or 1 swipe.
What do I get with Mercury ?

- Access to any future 13B parameters model.
- Unlimited credits for the free model.
They have unlimited generations and are completely uncensored, and you also get access to an API key to use it on other front ends.

They all have unlimited generations and are completely uncensored, and you also get access to an API key to use them on other front ends.

Clear your cache. If it doesn't work, check if you don't have an active subscription for Mercury already.
My payment doesn't go through
That's usually a problem on the payment processor's side. Contact them.
With Paypal specifically, people reported that using a new Paypal account worked. You could also pay with crypto for a month, the subscription with Paypal should work the next month.
With Crypto: Try another crypto.
I have an issue with my subscription/I have a billing issue
You need to contact the devs directly:
Lore email : [email protected]
Lore discord : llooree
Data email : [email protected]
Data discord : ddaattaalore
Other payment methods than Paypal and Crypto ?
No, there isn't any way to pay for a subscription besides Paypal and crypto currently. Since Venus is a +18 website, payment processors are really wary of it. But it's on the Trello, so... maybe one day.
Upgrade my subscription
We finally have a way to upgrade the subscription ! In the subscription page, use the upgrade subscription button. If you get an error, try to clear your cache. If it still doesn't work, wait, or contact the devs.
Do I get an API key with a subscription ?
Yes, you get an API key with the subscription. You can access it through the 'subscription' menu.
Why the price difference between the website and the iOS app ?
Apple's fees.
Free models but not Chub ?
You have some here. Note that we (as the Discord team) won't be able to provide a lot of troubleshooting for non Chub models besides the most basic one.
About Chub
Chub, CharacterHub, Venus Chub... what ?
Let's go back in time. At first, there were two websites : CharacterHub and VenusAI (different from Venus Chub, not the same devs). Characterhub.org became Chub.ai (but Character Hub version still existed). It was, at first, only to share character cards.
VenusAI was deleted and the former staff shared the code of the website to be used by people. From there, a lot of identical websites popped up, including Venus Chub, all copies of VenusAI but with different names. Chub.ai and Characterhub.org were used to only share cards, while Venus.chub.ai was a frontend to use said cards.
Jump to May 2024, Chub's UI and Venus Chub's UI got merged, Chub turning into a frontend too, while still sharing cards. Characterhub.org has been left as a legacy website, but is depreciated, meaning it will no longer be updated and will eventually break.
For a long time, Chub and Venus Chub were identical with only one little difference. Cards shared on Chub were natively visible on Venus Chub, while cards shared on Venus Chub needed to be selected in the Chub's filters (show Venus projects). This difference isn't there anymore, Chub and Venus Chub are exactly the same.
Is it really uncensored ?
Yes, you can publish about any card you want on the website. The only limitations are on the images, you can find them in the Terms of Service. Also, it is extremely recommended to correctly tag the cards. Since the website is completely uncensored, having properly tagged bots will allow users to block the tags they are uncomfortable with.
Differences between public/private/unlisted
Public: Will appear in search for everyone, anyone can see it.
Unlisted: Will not appear in search. Only people with the link can access it.
Private: Will not appear in search. Nobody can access it.
Change username
No, you currently can't change your username after creating your account.
About the app
Android version
- The APK can be downloaded directly from the website.
- It's mostly like the website, with the same rules.
IOS version
- It can be downloaded from the App Store.
- Unlike the website, it is kind of censored. NSFL cards are not available in search.
- NSFW images are staying blurred. NSFW cards can't be accessed without being logged in.
- Only Chub's models can be used. (No OpenAI/Anthropic/OpenRouter/others.)
- No NSFW toggle (can be done on the website).
Why the differences between IOS and Android ?
The Android app can be downloaded from the website, bypassing Google Play.
On IOS, the app can only be downloaded from the App Store. Any difference between the app has been made to respect Apple's conditions.
The bots are too extreme
Block the tags you don't like.
People are not tagging their bots correctly
Report the bots that are not properly tagged, the tag moderators will take care of it. To make it easier, please, add which tags are lacking or are incorrect.
Stolen bot
Report the stolen bot with a link to the original.
About chatting
I only get short messages
- Max new tokens set too low in your generation settings
- First/example messages are too short (It's what the bot will use to know how to write, an how much)
- Your messages are too short (what you give to the bot is what you will get)
I only get long messages
- Max new tokens set too high in your generation settings
- First/example messages are too long
- Your messages are too long
- You have something in your prompt telling the bot to be 'detailed' and/or 'verbose'.
The bot rushes in the scenario and ends the roleplay
- The first/example messages are rushing through the roleplay
- Your max new tokens is set too high, giving space for the bot to fill it
The messages are cut in the middle of a sentence
- Toggle the 'Trim Incomplete Sentences' under Configuration > Generation Parameters
- Press the 'Continue' button
- Reduce the length of all the messages (first message/example dialogs/chat history=
- Raise your max new tokens
Too much description/too much dialogue
- The first message/example messages must be exactly like you want the bot to speak. (With more or less description/dialogues.)
- What you give is what you get. You write more description, the bot will write more description. You write more dialogue, the bot will write more dialogues.
The bot speaks for {{user}}
The most common mistakes:
- The bot is talking/acting for you in the greeting.
- The bot is talking/acting for {{user}} in the example messages.
- Your persona is too long
- There are too many mention of {{user}} in the character's description.
- For more detailed informations, you have Statuo's guide.
Changing API parameters in the middle of a chat
The changes will work immediately, on the next generation.
The bot doesn't use the lorebook
The bot won't use the lorebook by itself, you need to use a keyword to activate the entry. It won't work otherwise. If you used the keyword, and the entry is activated, it's possible the bot simply ignored the entry.
Remember, LLMs are still just overglorified autocompletes. They are not forced to use your lorebook. In that case, you just need to regen and hope for the best.
What is a proxy ?
A proxy allows users to access models that are not officially implemented on a website. For example, Chub's models can be used on other websites through a proxy link and a key. To simplify things, in Chub's case, they mimic OpenAI, but they do not provide access to any OpenAI models.
Some proxies are legal, but illegal proxies also exist and are used by many people. Typically, when someone provides a proxy to paid models at a lower cost (or for free) than the official channels (such as Anthropic for Claude, and OpenAI for GPT), they are accessing those models illegally.
Some proxy providers also had the tendency to provide their own model, legally, and switch them without warning to a corporate model (OpenAI), making it illegal. Of course, without changing the name of the model itself. cough cough Pawan cough cough. We are talking about more than a year ago, where their model's outputs changed in an extremely short time and ended up looking exactly like OpenAI's ones. Now, even if they are sharing legal things, the trust is non-existent.
Because of this, discussions about proxies are mostly forbidden on the Discord server and the subreddit. We prefer to avoid any risk, as the worst-case scenario could result in the server or subreddit being deleted.
Hide characters' definitions
On Chub, it's not possible to hide the characters' definitions, and I doubt it will be possible. Two reasons:
- Chub (as CharacterHub), before being a chat frontend, started as a characters repository, to share character cards for people using any plateform. A lot of people still use it as that.
- Chub has an API, allowing anyone to access the cards on the website.
- Chub, like you must know, is fully uncensored, and unfortunately, everyone doesn't properly tag their bots. For safety reasons, it's better for users to be able to check the characters' descriptions, to be sure something they are uncomfortable with will not appear in the middle of the chat without warning.
Also, there is no point. It's possible to get the definitions in the chat, even with the definitions hidden.
