Cottage Terrace Inn, Room 205
"What is it that you want?" you say through the door. "You are disturbing this room. Please go away."
"Can I come in," the person repeats.
"Do you need help? Tell me what do you want right now!"
"I am looking for him. I want to know where he is."
You almost fall down. You crouch above the floor.
They want him. They are coming to get him.
You look toward the bed. The child is still asleep. You jump back to your feet and go to the door. You look through the peephole and see the woman a little better. Her hair blows in the wind.
You somehow keep your voice low but menacing. "You listen to me, whoever-you-are. You get away from this door and you do not come back. Do you hear me? I will destroy you."
Through the peephole, you see the woman begin to turn away from your door. She seems uncertain.
"Now!" you shout.
You watch the woman move away from the door. You lean against the door, feeling weak. When you check the peephole again, the woman is gone.
You go to the bed. You pick up the child along with the blanket and the pillow and the two of you go into the bathroom. You lock the door.
You relax after a little while, an hour or so.
"There is nothing to worry about," you whisper to yourself. "Everything is okay. Tomorrow will be a wonderful day. First thing in the morning, we'll leave this motel and we'll find somewhere else to go. Today, Cottage Terrace Inn. Tomorrow ... anywhere."
