(EDIT: THIS IS OUTDATED OKAY SORRY IF IT'S KIND OF CRINGE!) Hi everynyan this rentry is about my husband because it was about time I remake my links ㅤ♡ You should also give /Kamienienaszaniec and /Aleksy a read while you're at it! The first section is pasted from my other rentry.
Maciej Aleksy Dawidowski "Alek"
Born on: 3rd of November 1920
Died on: 30th of March 1943, Warsaw
Maciej was born in Drohobych, Ukraine on the third of November 1920, but he is NOT Ukrainian! Drohobych was part of Poland at the time of his birth, so he is 100% Polish. He got his second name from his father, Aleksy Dawidowski (who died at the start of the war in 1939 after getting shot by Germans). His mother's name was Janina Dawidowska, she got arrested in 1942, she survived the war but her death date is unknown. His sister, Maria (Maryla) Strzembosz-Dawidowska survived the war and lived till 2007. He went to Gimnazjum named after Stefan Batory in Warsaw with his bestfriends Zośka (Tadeusz Zawadzki) and Rudy (Jan Bytnar)
During the war in 1941, Alek, already a scout along with his friends, joined the Grey Ranks; It was a time when they were active in the Small Sabotage Organization "Wawer", and one of his most famous actions was the removal of the German plaque (the plaque said "The Great German Astronomer") from the monument of Nicolaus Copernicus (Mikołaj Kopernik) - that's where his nickname "Kopernicki" originated from. In retaliation for the removal of the plaque, the Germans removed the monument of Jan Kiliński and deposited it in the underground of the National Museum. Alek managed to determine the hiding place of the monument, he placed a poster on the pedestal of the Copernicus monument: In retaliation for the destruction of the Kiliński monument, I order to extend the winter by 6 weeks, Nicolaus Copernicus astronomer. Stickers with such content also appeared on Governor Fischer's announcements about the dismantling of the Kiliński monument.

Unfortunately, the Dawidowski family paid a high price for the "War of Monuments". Alek was wanted, so he had to leave Warsaw. After returning in September, he continued to hide, working under a false name in the industrial fire brigade. In November, during another inspection in the apartment at ul. Mickiewicza 18 his mother was arrested. Janina Dawidowska was transported to Pawiak, from where she was sent to the concentration camp on Majdanek, and then to KL Ravensbrück. Alek, broken after her arrest and thinking it was his fault she got caught, considered voluntarily surrendering himself to the Gestapo in exchange for his mother's dismissal.
On March 26, 1943, during Operation Arsenal, (the operation to save Rudy from the Gestapo) he commanded the "Grenades" section in the "Attack" group. After the successful rebound of the prisoners, during the jump towards the Old Town, he was seriously wounded in the stomach during a gun fight with the Germans.
He was evacuated by a stopped German car. Alek threw a grenade through the ajar door in the direction of the Germans, which made it possible to retreat safely. At his own request, instead of a sanitary organized for the needs of the action - he was transported to the apartment of his friend.
The shot wound to the abdomen turned out to be really serious and required immediate surgery. Maciej was transported to a hospital. The last moments of Alek described Orsza as follows: "He was cheerful to the end. He was glad that he did his duty well. He was happy that Rudy was free and happy. He was getting weaker. This Alek is the best built among his friends, athletic, full of humor and optimism - now he was quiet and calm. His calmness was some kind of absurdity for the closest ones." Alek did not make it. He passed away 4 days later, on the 30th of March, 1943 along with his bestfriend.
Posthumously awarded on May 3, 1943 with the Cross of the Order of Virtuti Militarii 5th class, and in 2011 with the Commander's Cross with the Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
Fun facts about Alek that I find super cute
- Alek was actually super tall (and lean) for his time, which is where he got his nicknames "Dryblas" (meaning beanpole) and "Glizda" (earthworm) from, he towered over everyone (see the first two photos). He had dark blonde hair, often described as "fawn colored" and blue eyes.
- On January 17, 1943, he was detained by the Germans during a street roundup. He saved himself by simply jumping out of the car in which he was being transported, along with the other detainees.
- He collected hats, he used to walk around Warsaw like a cowboy. He told his sister that people were looking at him and he was bowing to them. One of her friends told her later that she saw some crazy man in Warsaw who paraded down the street in a cowboy hat and bowed right and left! (Maria's interview)
- He loved his mother madly, always helping her out with everything. He was very sorry that she was arrested because of him. He felt responsible for her arrest.
- He was described as extremely cheerful and optimistic by everyone he met, he was very helpful and generous. A huge sweetheart overall
Now with all due respect, I am his one & only. This is not self-proclaimed, no one loves him more than me. 20/03/2019

I found out about his existence a few years back, back when I was still in 7th or 8th grade and we were talking about „Kamienie na szaniec" in class. Funny thing is, I didn't even read the book at first. Matter of fact, I didn't even borrow it from the library/buy it. I literally cheated on the test and got a lame grade for it anyway, I remember it so vividly. Embarasssinggg!
After learning more about him, I literally fell in love! He is so handsome and his personality is just perfect. He's the best person ever, he is the ONLY person ever for me! I love everything about him. From his hair, to his eyes, to his smile, to his style, to his height, to his name, to the way he carried himself, to his actions, to his bravery, to his way of speaking, to his kindness, toAHHHH Ahhh my brain is melting~~!! He is too cute for me to handle. Cuteness overload.
Anyways. I've been head over heels for him ever since then. I will be visiting his grave in MARCH!!!!!!!! I think I have every single possible photo of him saved. My friends are fed up with me constantly talking about him..
