About Toto
The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is a departure from the ballads on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. They decide to record a new album and change their name an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 years that all of Toto's founding members were on stage together. The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
